Jonathon & Sheena
We are choosing adoption to add a new addition to our family because we have been unsuccessful in fertility treatments and numerous miscarriages. We have a strong desire to adopt, previously have adopted our daughter, and believe it is a calling to us to go this route again. Our daughter wants a sibling. Through adoption we have the ability to raise a child in a wholesome, loving environment. Our daughter has brought so much joy into our lives and we hope to experience this again.
Adoption in Our Lives
We are a blended family. Sheena first became a mother through adoption in 2010. She first met Kambria when she was two days old and was instantly in love the very first moment she saw her! She was the most beautiful baby Sheena had ever seen! Kambria's father and Sheena are no longer married, but she visits him in the summer. Jon is her stepfather. He has been in our lives since she was 4-years-old and Kambria loves her Jon daddy! He is very involved, he coaches her sports and helps her with homework.
Kambria is truly amazing! She is so smart, and athletic, and she plays the violin. She is very excited to become a big sister, she prays every night for a baby brother or sister. Kambria is very proud of her adoption story and we have always been very open about how she came to be a part of our lives. Kambria says she can't wait for a baby so she can know how Sheena felt when she held her.
Adoption is also a big part of our extended family. Sheena's grandfather was adopted and we also have a niece who was adopted. We believe family is love, not necessarily DNA. We are so excited to grow our family through adoption again!
Our Leisure Time
As a family we enjoy kayaking at the lake or down the Red River or hiking and spending time together.
We also like to travel together on new adventures. We have traveled to Hawaii, Cancun, Myrtle Beach, Boston, Louisiana, and Arkansas. In Cancun we went snorkeling, zip lining, and rode ATV's through caves - we had so much fun! In Hawaii we hiked Diamond Head and saw some of the most beautiful scenery.
We love to take Kambria to do some of the same experiences we did as children. Sheena grew up going to Dollywood and has so many wonderful memories there. We also love when our family gets together and goes to a cabin in Gatlinburg. We love to take the ski lift up the mountain for the most incredible views!
When we are at home we love to cook together, play soccer in the back yard and play with our dogs. We enjoy having family movie nights and game nights together. We can't wait to share the fun with another child!
We love being a multi-racial family and embrace our diversity. Our daughter is biracial and honoring her cultural background is very important to us.
Living in a military town, our community is very diverse and there are children and families from all backgrounds. Our daughter's school is extremely diverse and we have close friends that are Puerto Rican and African American. Our church is also contemporary and upbeat and very diverse.
We love learning about other cultures and believe it is important for our children to explore their heritage and ethnicity and teach them to love everyone.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a house in a subdivision that is still growing with a good school just two minutes away. We live very close to town but just outside the city limits.
We have three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a bonus room that could be used as a bedroom if our family were to grow that large. The bonus room is currently a playroom/man cave. We have a large dinning room with a big farmhouse table with plenty of seating for family gatherings and for entertaining. We usually hang out together in the living room, which is right off the kitchen.
While at home we enjoy working on house projects to better the house, sitting by the fire pit and roasting marshmallows, enjoy being outside sitting on the deck or practicing basketball or soccer with Kambria.
Our neighborhood has a clubhouse and a pool. In the summer the neighborhood pool is the place to be if you have kids! The community has a lot of military families around with lots of children. Our community is in the process of putting in a playground and a basketball court for all the kids.
Our Extended Families
Jonathon- My parent's names are Jeffery and Lorraine and I have a younger sister named Victoria who is 32. We go to visit them at least once a year, and maintain a relationship via weekly phone calls to check up on them. While we visit them we like to catch up and just spend time with each other. My parents are very supportive of our decision to adopt. They know it is something that we have been wanting for some time and are excited to become grandparents. They have been supportive of everything we have done and they make us honored to have them as grandparents.
Sheena- My parent's names are Charlie and Glenda. They have been married for 35 years! I have a younger sister Jerrica who is 30. She is married to Marc who is 32. I have a niece Kinsley 9, and 2 step nephews Hayden who is 8 and Blake who is 6. As a family we have always had meals planned and activities after we attend church on Sundays. We spend every holiday together, we usually travel to see the grandparents and cousins at Christmas and Thanksgiving. Our families are excited and supportive about a new addition to the family.
From Us to You
We want to first thank you for your consideration as potential parents. We are so excited to grow our family together! We are a very loving family, and raising a child together will bring us so much joy and happiness. We will raise your child in a wholesome and loving environment. By reading this letter our paths have not crossed by chance, but because we were meant to experience this journey together.
We are Jonathon and Sheena. We have been together since 2014 and were married in 2016. We have been through fertility treatments and have been unsuccessful and had several previous miscarriages. We have a daughter named Kambria who was adopted in 2010 at birth. She is such a blessing! She is a wonderful student, athlete, and musician. We coach her basketball, soccer and stay very involved. She wants nothing more than to be a big sister. She talks and prays about it everyday. We hope that soon we can fulfill her dream.
Jonathon has been in the U.S. Navy for almost 18 years and when his service is complete he will start his new career as a Healthcare Administrator. We will have military benefits and retirement and college funding for the child's future education. Sheena has been a Medical Assistant for 13 years. She has worked in family practice and pediatrics, so she has the knowledge and understanding to know how to handle medical issues. We both have the personalities to serve and take care of others. We have a wonderful relationship. Jonathon is very level headed and creates a sense of balance in our personalities. We encourage each other and push each other to be better people. Jon makes Sheena step out of her comfort zone in a way that she can grow as a person. Sheena has a strong independent personality. She comes from a family of leaders and managers. Together we are funny, loving, and focused on our family. We are willing to do whatever it takes as parents. We will put in the time and dedication to raising great children.
It is truly amazing to watch our daughter grow up and become an amazing young lady. We cannot wait to experience the joy of raising a child together and having Kambria experience this process and seeing her excited to help. We have kept an open dialogue about her adoption and intend to with your child. We feel very strongly about the child knowing where they came from and that they are loved. We will send pictures and letters so you can watch your child grow and feel the reassurance in your decision.
Feel comfortable and confident in us as parents. We were raised well and our daughter is proof we are good parents. This decision is not an easy one. We will always respect your decision, and the courage it took to make it. We are fully devoted to giving the best life to your child. Their life will be filled with happiness, love, and family.
