Our Leisure Time

A Beautiful Day on the Golf Course

We greatly enjoy putting time into renovations on our home. While Josh is the hands on guy, Heather controls the design and master plan for each project. This spring we worked on our side porch. Josh built a door that matched the other vintage doors perfectly and the hexagon tile and stained wood bead board ceiling gave the home even more character. Last summer we spent time building a deck off the back of the house where we enjoy sunsets and a view of the neighborhood.

When we're not working on the house we enjoy travelling and try to visit locations that fuel our passions. Craftsman homes and fine woodworking brought us to North Carolina this past spring. We visited Grove Park Inn, a historic home turned hotel adorned with vintage lighting, Stickley and Greene and Greene furniture (Josh was in heaven!), and beautiful oak columns and hardwood floors. The exterior was just as beautiful - built entirely of rock.

When the weather is warm, we enjoy playing a round of golf on the numerous courses in our area. Josh has been playing competitive golf since he was a child. Heather took up golf when we met and after taking some lessons a few years back, she has really become a good player. We enjoy the quiet time together in nature that golf affords and it's a sport we especially look forward to sharing with your child.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Proud Uncle Josh

Heather About Josh:

Josh is a gentleman and knows how a man should treat a woman. Every morning he brings me a cup of coffee with, "Good morning, Sweetheart!" He texts me and asks how my day is going, drops me off at the door and gives me his jacket if I'm cold. He's an excellent listener and has this quick wit about him that makes me laugh every day.

He has a passion to learn like I have never seen in anyone before. He loves to dive into a project in his workshop and could fix or build anything you asked him to. And if he doesn't know how to do it, he will teach himself how to.

I cannot wait to see Josh as a father, passing down these admirable qualities to a child.

Josh About Heather:

One of my most admired qualities in Heather is her loyalty to her friends and family - let's just say this, you want to be on Heather's team! She will always have your back. Whatever new adventure or challenge is before me, Heather is always there to provide her support and encourage me take something on and give it my best.

Heather has a personality that is quite different from mine which I think makes for a great combination between the two of us. She likes to plan ahead and is always three steps ahead of everyone else which I think will be a fantastic quality when she becomes a mother.

Caring for and nurturing other people comes naturally to Heather and I see that in her every day.

Our Extended Families

Fun with Family

Family is everything to us! Their support has been monumental throughout our adoption journey and no doubt will continue once we bring a child home. We cannot wait to include a little one in our many family traditions.

Heather has a younger brother with whom she is very close. They speak several times a week and visit each other as often as possible. His daughter is the apple of Heather's eye! They share a passion for soccer and we spend many weekends watching her at games and tournaments around the state and supporting her at soccer camp hosted at the nearby university.

Josh & Our Nephew Are Best Friends Forever

Heather's family all live within a couple hours' drive and meet regularly for holidays and birthday celebrations. Our favorite tradition is FUN-DO, which is our annual February birthdays celebration where we stuff our faces with fondue. From cheese fondue with bread and veggies, to milk and dark chocolate fondue with strawberries and angel food cake, there's something for everybody to enjoy! The table is surrounded with family and friends and boy do we get loud! Josh and Heather's Uncle keep everybody laughing and Heather and "Aunt Soooosie" make sure the food doesn't run out.

Josh comes from a larger family of six with two brothers and a sister. All of Josh's siblings and parents live within an hour of us. Josh's mother passed away several years ago, but his father just loves being "Grandpa Scratchy" (for his scratchy beard) and would love to have another grandchild to spoil. Josh's brother and sister-in-law live very close to us and we spend a lot of time with them and our 7 year old nephew who loves his Uncle Josh! They have a love for computers and wherever Josh is, our nephew is sitting right next to him playing his video games.

"Grandpa Scratchy" hosts Easter every year at his house located in Josh's hometown. The entire family looks forward to coming home and reminiscing about their childhood on the creek catching fish, running as fast as they could to get home before dark and warm bread baked with love by their Grandma.

Family is everything and both of our families are eager to welcome a child through adoption. We have shared every step of this process with them and they cannot wait to give lots of hugs and kisses!

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We love our community! We live in a small town off of Lake Michigan where tourists from all over the world visit because of its beautiful sandy beaches, well-manicured parks, and many family friendly activities. As a family, we will take full advantage of this by biking the 150 miles of bike paths and hiking trails, as well as enjoying tons of water sports like sailing, jet skiing, and kayaking.

We found the home of our dreams, walking distance from a quaint downtown, five blocks from an exclusive university and two blocks away from one of the best K-12 schools in the state but it needed a lot of renovations. So we put on our hard hats, watched a lot of YouTube videos and HGTV and went to work! From sanding every inch of wood floor in the 3 bedroom 2 bath home to adding a walk-in closet and vanity we now have a place we love to come home to. Our favorite room renovation is the kitchen - Heather designed the space and Josh built it! After a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, we now have a beautiful kitchen that has already made a lifetime of wonderful memories.

From Us to You

We want to thank you again for viewing our profile. Our hope is that we conveyed how excited we are to adopt a child and how meaningful it would be to our entire family. Although we cannot come close to understanding the sacrifice you are making, we offer our promise to give our wholehearted love and support to your child, in a home filled with laughter and imagination.

Even before we married in 2012, family has always been a top priority for us. We both have wonderful memories of our childhood with our siblings and parents and cannot wait to share the same values and experiences. For Josh, spending countless hours doing woodworking with his Grandpa, seeing and feeling the patience demonstrated with a child is something he will always remember and will be a part of how we raise a child. For Heather, seeing the sacrifices made by her parents so she and her brother could travel the country playing the sports they loved, impressed upon her the value of parental support and giving up everything so your child can have every opportunity. Just like our parents did for us, we hope to instill confidence, a sense of right and wrong, an appreciation for hard work and a belief in themselves that will allow them to see anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

We strongly believe that raising a child really does take a village! Not only from the support they give, but the learning opportunities that they present. When we talked to our families about our intentions to adopt a child, they were so happy to extend the family and immediately starting talking about all the ways they would love this child - from Heather's mom teaching her grandchild how to paint watercolors or crochet and to our nephew, who is super excited to teach his cousin how to play Minecraft!

Our tight knit community celebrates their rich cultural heritage with festivals that attract thousands each year and has a multitude of activities available at our fingertips. We look forward to making memories on one of the greatest beaches in the country that is just a fifteen minute walk from our house. Arts and sciences are actively supported in our small town and we will be sure to surround your child with these interests - robotics, pottery, gardening, music lessons, just to name a few.

Adoption offers us the hope of becoming the family we have always dreamed of and we are excited to experience this process with you. If you choose us to raise your child, we look forward to the role you will play. Letters, shared photos, birthday celebrations, whatever you choose that to be. From the beginning, your child will know that you chose adoption because you love him or her and that love allowed you to put his or her needs above your own. We hope to get to know you and your family to allow us to share with your child their beginnings and who you are.

If we travel the road of adoption together, it will be with respect and honesty. From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate you taking the time to read our profile.
