Our Leisure Time

Trying Out a New Restaurant

We feel lucky that we share a lot of common interests. We are truly a great match. A fun evening for us is meeting friends to try out the food at the latest new restaurant in town.

We love to go out to live shows and theater events. We have two parks near our house that have music and plays outside during the summer. We can stroll over with our dogs and picnic in the park while we listen to live music. There are always so many families at the events.

We also enjoy going out to movies. We are big science fiction fans and even have a room in the house full of movie memorabilia. Robbie is a big collector of Star Wars and Lego toys. Robbie is also into PC building and loves to show off his computer. He'd love to share these hobbies with our child.

Another thing we enjoy together is spending time in our backyard garden. Terry usually grows enough berries for us to have fresh fruit and vegetables for most of the summer. Every morning he goes out and harvests berries for our breakfast.

Our Pets

Robbie With Sidney & Ziggy

We have two lovable fluffy dogs — Sidney and Ziggy that are full of personality. We also have a cat named Riley. They get along great together. The dogs love being around people and especially children. We often take the dogs to the park or to other outdoor events. They love to hang out with the other families in the neighborhood.

We both had pets growing up and feel that it is very important for children to grow up with pets. Pets can be such a source of comfort, companionship and unconditional love for a child. We want our children to experience the joy of taking care of a pet. It is a great way for children to learn caring and responsibility at a young age.

Adoption in Our Lives

Adoption has always been part of Terry's family story. Terry was very close to his grandmother who recently passed away. They weren't actually related but she raised Terry's mother from the time she was in her teens because his biological grandfather could not take care of Terry's mother and her two sisters.

Terry also grew up with two cousins that were adopted. Terry's grandmother was a nurse at the time and she became aware that there was a birth mother who was making adoption plans. She arranged for Terry's aunt and uncle to meet the expectant mother and that is how they grew their family. It was an open adoption for the time and Terry's family was very supportive.

Recently, another family member of Terry's placed their child for adoption with a family. Terry's family has ongoing contact with the adoptive family. The two families live near each other, exchange pictures, are friends on Facebook and meet several times a year.

We also have friends that have adopted by open adoption and surrogacy, so our friends and family are very comfortable with all different kinds of families.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in Richmond, Virginia and we love our neighborhood!  We are just across the James River from the city, so our area is mostly residential. We live in a small gray house with 4 bedrooms and a big back yard with our two dogs and cat.  The neighborhood is full of families with kids.

Playground Near Our Home

We have so much to great stuff that we can walk to near our house - two parks, restaurants, an elementary school, churches, playgrounds, a coffee shop and a library.  We can even walk a few blocks with our dogs to the river so they can splash around.

Our neighborhood is very active and there are always activities where families get together!  In the summer we have a big cookout for the entire neighborhood.  We close off a street and have live music and activities for the kids - bounce house, face painting and lots of other fun.  One of the local restaurants serves food.  We love just sitting at talking with our neighbors while all the children run around and play.

Our Extended Families

Robbie, Geoff & Ziggy at the Lake

Our families are very important to us! Robbie doesn't have any siblings, but is very close to his parents. Robbie's parents also live in Virginia, just a few hours away. We see them several times a year, in addition to the holidays. We love to vacation at a lake that is near Robbie's parents once or twice in the summer.

Lunch With Terry's Family

Robbie is also very close to Terry's younger brother, Geoff. They are only a month apart in age and have very similar senses of humor! Geoff lives in Colorado, so we don't get to see him often, but whenever we are all together we laugh almost constantly. We talk on the phone several times a week just to catch up and keep in touch.

Since both our families have been in the military, our extended families are a bit spread out, but we make every opportunity to get together and visit whenever we can. It's not unusual for Terry's younger cousins or aunts and uncles to stop by if they are passing through Richmond.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking an interest in learning more about us. We admire your courage and decision to consider us as potential parents for your child. We can't imagine how difficult this decision is for you, but we want you to know that we promise to have an open and honest relationship with you. It is important to us that we include you in our lives in a way that makes you feel comfortable. We look forward to getting to know you. We would love to know what hopes and dreams you have for your child. We promise to give you updates, pictures & stories concerning your child and are open to visits if you wish.

Our names are Robbie and Terry. We hope you will consider our family to raise and care for your child. We have been married since May 2015, and we have been together as a couple for over 10 years. Ever since we've been together, we've wanted to adopt a child and expand our family. We are very excited to adopt, and we can't wait to share our life and love with a child.

Please rest assured that your child will be cared for in a safe, loving and nurturing home. We love spending time with both our families and time with friends. Our families and friends are very supportive of our plan to adopt and are looking forward to us extending our family. Terry has family members that were adopted so we understand how important it is for the child to have a connection to their birth parents.

We are very close with our families and often take vacations together. We always spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with family either at our home or visiting with our extended families. Some of our best memories involve spending time with family.

We both come from military families and have travelled and lived in many different places as we were growing up. We have lived all over the United States and around the world. Robbie's father was in the Air Force and he grew up in Florida, Michigan and Colorado. Terry's father was in the Army and he grew up all over the world from Germany to Hawaii. We want our child to experience how great it is to travel and learn about interesting places around the world just as we did.

We live in a great family friendly neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia with our two dogs. We are surrounded by families with children and every morning get to see parents walking their children to the local elementary school. Our neighborhood has activities all year round that are family friendly including a neighborhood picnic, farmers market and other activities that are fun for children. We also live close to parks, playgrounds, churches, museums and restaurants. We chose our neighborhood because we wanted a great place to raise a family and we would love to share our life with your child.

Thank you again for considering us as potential parents. We respect that you are making a difficult decision and you will be in our thoughts as you make your brave choice. We will always be thankful for your consideration and look forward to including you in our lives.

With Love,

Terry & Robbie
