Adoption in Our Lives

Early Morning Photo Time

It is adoption that gave us our title of Mom and Dad and we are so excited about adopting again! Over two years ago, we got the phone call that changed everything. Our son, Wesley, has filled our lives with immense joy, energy, and excitement from the moment we first held him. We were fortunate enough to meet Wesley's birth mom before he was born and used the months before his arrival getting to know an incredible, selfless, and loving woman. We still text and mail pictures and updates regularly. We have so much love and respect for Wes' birth mom and he will definitely grow up knowing that.

We are so eager to grow our family and cannot wait for Wes to have a sibling. While no two adoptions are alike, we hope that their adoption experiences will nurture a strong and special bond. We celebrate adoption and try to create an environment that nurtures an open and honest relationship with our children. We look forward to sharing this child's birth story with them. We know it's incredibly important that our children not only know how much we love them, but also how much their birth family does, too! You are such an important part of this child's story and we will always speak positively about you and your family's decision.

We've come to appreciate that it is not biology that makes a family strong. We have no biological ties to one another and are as strong as they come. Love, compassion, and a willingness to learn from one another are things that make a family and we cannot wait to share our lives with another child, regardless of their genetic background.

Our Lifestyle

Go Badgers!

The best way to sum up our lifestyle is "family time." Our life revolves around spending as much time together as we can — we love having adventures with Wes and Riley, our pup. We live a healthy, active, and balanced life and make a great team!

We are fortunate enough to live in the Midwest where all four seasons make their presence known. Winter is one of our favorites! Freshly fallen snow is so peaceful; we love to bundle up and go for a hike around our neighborhood. Winter also brings snowball fights, building snowmen, ice skating, snowboarding, and hot cocoa at the end of a fun day outdoors! When spring rolls around, we are quick to stop and smell the flowers. Wesley loves birds, so we often head down to the park by the river so he can watch them while he swings. We live two blocks from the local swimming pool, so our summer afternoons are typically spent there. In summer, you can also find us taking a camping trip with our friends and kids, spending a week at the lake with family, too many trips to get ice cream, and a lot of time outside! Come fall, we are all ready for some cooler weather and football season! We have season tickets to the UW Badger football games and Wes enjoys all the excitement! The colorful changing leaves, visits to the pumpkin patch, and the final cook-outs of the year makes fall awesome.

Jess is able to stay home part-time with Wesley (and his future little brother or sister). Mike recently took a new position and it allows a lot of flexible work hours and more time at home. We love the extra excitement life has with Wes in it and can't wait to explore your child's interests!

What It Means to Be Parents

Wagon Ride at the Farm

Since the day Wesley entered our life, our hearts have been filled with so much joy! Becoming Mom and Dad has been the greatest adventure. We love seeing the magic, joy, and wonder through his eyes as he explores the world around him. It is truly a privilege. We cannot wait for him to have a sibling to share life with!

It is incredibly important to us that we create a loving, healthy, and trusting relationship with each of our children. Parents are the ultimate role model. Every word spoken, action taken, or reaction made can influence a child. As parents, we give constant, unconditional love and support. We are working hard to find the balance between giving discipline and comfort, sharing advice and being a listening ear, teaching responsibility and structure and cutting loose and having fun.

We have many dreams for our children and can't wait to make a lifetime of memories. We will cherish all aspects of parenting from the sleepless nights to tend to a crying child to watching them graduate. We want to teach our children to be kind and compassionate, honest and loving, funny and smart. We want to teach them how to ride a bike, throw a ball and play sports, bake cookies, dance in the kitchen with the countdown on the radio, give the best hugs.

Parenthood has been the hardest, most rewarding job. We are so eager to grow our family through adoption again. The opportunity to raise your child would mean the world to us.

Our House and Neighborhood

We Love Our Home!

We live in a small town in Wisconsin, not far from a big city. We are just blocks from the elementary, middle, and high schools and there is a beautiful river and surrounding park in the center of town.

Our community has a wonderful bike trail that runs through the woods surrounding it. We enjoy running, biking, and walking our dog, Riley, on the trail and around our neighborhood. Wes loves to pick one of his several wheeled "vehicles" to take out for a ride to one of the many playgrounds near our home. Our community has frequent festivals throughout the summer and we look forward to volunteering annually to serve food at one of them. We also enjoy hanging out at the Terrace, from Jess' alma mater. There is great music, yummy food, a lot of fun, diverse people and don't forget the delicious Babcock Ice Cream!

We fell in love with our home as soon as we saw the big wrap around porch. Jess has so many fond childhood memories playing on her porch growing up, that she had to have this house! Our house is a large four bedroom home that we have enjoyed updating over the years. Our backyard is fully fenced in and the perfect spot for the kids to play and have adventures. What we love most about our home is who we share it with and we cannot wait to share it with another child.

Our Extended Families

Celebrating Grandpa John's Birthday

We are fortunate to have wonderful families and friends that are fully supportive and excited we are growing our family through adoption again.

Mike's brother lives locally and has three sons. Jess' sister also has two sons and they live a couple hours away. We love when we can get all the cousins together — it is so much fun! We see Mike's sister, from out of state, several times a year, too.

Fun With Oma & Papa

Both of our parents are loving their grandparent title (or in Jess' parents case — Oma and Papa) and are excited to welcome another child to the family. Since both families live within driving distance, Wes is lucky enough to see them regularly. We plan many weekend visits every year. We have fun hanging out, watching movies, celebrating birthdays, playing games, and sharing stories. Grandma and Grandpa and Oma and Papa take every opportunity to act as fabulous babysitters!

One of our favorite get-togethers is the week on the lake organized by Mike's family. Everyone from Mike's relatives in Connecticut to Jess' family makes the trip. With water-skiing, tubing, sailing and water aerobics, there is never a dull moment.

We were both raised in very supportive and loving families and we can't wait to raise this child the same way!

From Us to You

Hi! We're Mike and Jess and we're thrilled you are getting to know more about us as you consider adoption for your child. We're so eager to tell you about our family, the life we lead, and the hopes and dreams we have for this child. We cannot wait to get to know more about you, too.

We met over 10 years ago and knew fairly quickly we wanted to spend our lives together. We consider ourselves pretty lucky to be married to our best friend for the past 8 years and Mom and Dad for 2 years. Our marriage and life is so full of love, honesty, commitment, open communication, and laughter. These values have provided a firm foundation as we grow our family. We have a great life and it became even greater when our son, Wesley, joined our family through open adoption. But it is missing one very important piece - a little brother or sister. Becoming parents has been our biggest adventure and we are so excited to be on this journey through adoption again.

Our path to parenthood was a challenging one, but we can honestly say we are grateful for our struggles with infertility. Our relationship is stronger than ever because of it. It forced us to have difficult conversations yet also allowed us time to dream, wish, and hope for our family. We can both say wholeheartedly, we absolutely love being parents! The opportunity to see life through Wes' eyes has been incredible. The joy he brings to our daily life is immeasurable and we know he is going to love being a big brother! Wesley's birth mom is also excited for him to grow up with a sibling!

Should you choose us as parents for your child, we will love this child unconditionally and cherish every moment with them. Based on our experience bringing Wesley into our lives, this child will be warmly welcomed by our friends and family, too.

We will work hard every day to develop a loving, healthy, and trusting relationship with your child. We promise to teach them to be a kind, compassionate, and honest person and how to appreciate even the little things in life. We will strive to be the best parents and role models and will provide every opportunity for your child to grow, explore, learn, and have fun. We will do everything we can so your child becomes a fun-loving, hard-working, happy person. We will dance around the kitchen, create masterpieces in the dining room, roast s'mores over the campfire, and remind them every chance we get how happy, honored, and blessed we are to have them to love. Not one single moment with them will be taken for granted.

Although our journey to date is different than your journey, we are excited that our paths may connect. We commit to you, that if we are fortunate to be chosen to join your path, we will be as open and honest with you as we are with each other. We want your child to always know where he or she came from. You are a vital part of their story. We look forward to keeping you updated on your child's growth through pictures, letters, videos, and more, just as we already do with Wes' birth family. We hope our relationship with you grows as we get to know each other and although it probably won't always go perfectly, you will be family and family is forever. Your child will always know of the love that you share for them and how much respect and appreciation we have for you and the sacrifice you are making.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for considering us as prospective parents. We know you wouldn't be here if it weren't for your loving heart and caring spirit. After all adoption is all about love - the love you have for your child, the love we have for your child, and the love we have for you. You will forever hold a special place in our heart for helping us grow our family. We wish you peace and comfort as you make this important decision.

With love,

Mike & Jess
