Chris & Michelle
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about us! Even though we do not know each other yet, we have a great amount of respect and gratitude for you. We're so excited to become parents and look forward to sharing our life, laughter and unconditional love with a child.
Why We Chose Adoption
We have always admired the selflessness shown by birth mothers and adoptive parents alike and we often talked about it together. Looking back now on those discussions now it seems like our hearts made this decision long before we realized it.
We've been married for 8 years and spent over three of those trying to have a family on our own, with no luck. We decided to learn more about fertility treatments but we knew that adoption was also a very real option for us.
We began all of the appointments and tests that go along with fertility. During one doctor appointment where we were reviewing possible fertility options, we both (unknowingly) came to the same conclusion: we no longer felt like fertility treatments were the way we wanted to start our family. We didn't tell the other person what we were thinking until we were in the car on the way home. When we both shared our desire to start our family through adoption, we instantly knew it was the best decision for us.
Now that we've made this decision, we are so excited for the future. This is who we are, this is what we were meant to do and we absolutely cannot wait to begin our family.
Our Leisure Time
We enjoy spending time outside, whether on walks in our neighborhood or hiking in the mountains around our house. Our area is home to minor league baseball, hockey and soccer teams. You can't beat the exciting atmosphere of watching a game with lots of people. The crowd is always full of families and each team makes the events fun for kids with games, mascots and giveaways.
When we're home, we like to relax with the dogs in front of the TV or surfing the internet. Chris loves cooking, he enjoys making big breakfasts on the weekends and always thinks of fun things to make on Sundays.
We also love hanging out with our friends and their children. Whether we're going to fairs, festivals or just hanging out at each other's houses, these are the times we most cherish and can't wait to share with a child.
We look forward to all the fun activities a child can bring to our lives, like teaching them to ride a bike or cheering them on while they participate in any activity they enjoy.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Michelle About Chris: Chris is one of the most caring and considerate people I know; he is always thinking of ways to make me happy or cheer me on when I need it. I admire his commitment, he is always thinking of new ways to grow and he never gives up on his goals. Chris is also smart and amazes me with the wide range of things he takes the time to learn about (it comes in handy when we're watching Jeopardy!). Chris is devoted and loving husband and I am so excited to watch him become a dad.
Chris About Michelle: Michelle is the kindest and most selfless person I've ever met. It doesn't matter if she's known you for ten years or ten minutes she will do almost anything to help you out. She's intelligent and is always there to help guide me when there is a big decision to be made. Michelle is also extremely compassionate, when I see her interact with children or hear the excitement in her voice after coming home from a day spent with her friends children I know she will be the best mom ever. She's my best friend and I can't wait to raise a family with her.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a two-story, four-bedroom house that we chose because we knew it would be a great place to raise a family. We have a fenced-in backyard and just finished adding a new deck that is ready for summer barbecues and relaxing in the sunshine. Our favorite room in the house is our family room. There is lots of space to play games, watch movies or read by the fireplace.
We live on a safe, quiet street in a family friendly neighborhood full of children of all ages. Our home is within walking distance to the local elementary school and we can often hear children laughing on the playground. One of the most fun nights of the year is Trick or Treat, where neighbors hand out candy for the kids and food for the adults. We can't wait to experience this fun tradition with a child!
We live less than five minutes from our town's community center. It has a paved trail, basketball and tennis courts, soccer fields, playground equipment and both indoor and outdoor pools. Across from the community center is a farm with cows and chickens where we get corn on the cob in the summer and pumpkins in the fall.
Our town is home to many family fun events all year, like Easter egg hunts, science workshops, and a music festival in the summer.
Our town is centrally located and we are only a short drive from major cities, amusement parks, zoos, museums, mountains, lakes and the ocean.
Our Extended Families
We both come from small families but there is so much love to be shared. We are fortunate to have the majority of our family close by, making it easy to get together for holidays and birthdays. Our families are very supportive of our adoption and are excited to welcome the first grandchild, niece or nephew so there will be lots of love and adoration to be shared.
Michelle's dad passed away when she was a teenager. Her mom remarried many years later to a wonderfully kind man and they live in the same house Michelle grew up in, about 20 minutes away. Her sister lives a few hours away with her husband but they visit often.
Chris' parents divorced when he was young but each remarried and his family got a little bigger. His mom and stepdad live about 20 minutes away, while his dad and stepmother live about an hour away. Chris's brother lives a few towns away and his sister lives in Colorado. Our favorite time spent as a family is when we go on vacation to the Outer Banks.
We also consider our many friends and their children an extension of our family. We have an amazing group of lifelong friends, most who have been in our lives for 20 or more years. As our friends had children, our extended family grew. We love getting together to spend time with everyone's children, whether we're going to fairs, parks or just hanging out at each other's homes.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking time to consider us as potential parents if you choose adoption. We want you to know that we have so much respect and gratitude for you. We understand you may be experiencing a wide range of emotions but we hope that learning a little more about us will help you find comfort in knowing what an incredible gift you would be giving us.
We are Chris and Michelle. We met each other when we were teenagers and became best friends. That friendship quickly blossomed into love and, over 20 years later, we've never looked back. We were married eight years ago but we didn't start trying to start a family until three years ago. After trying for so long, we found out that we are unable to have children on our own. After researching options like fertility or adoption, we both knew that adoption was the right choice for our future family.
We live in a nice home in a safe neighborhood with our two Wheaten Terriers, Moose and Maggie. We are fortunate to have the love and support of our extended families close to us. Our family and friends are just as eager to welcome a child into our family and circle of friends. We love the area we live in because there is no shortage of things to see or do. Mountains, lakes, sprawling farms, major cities and the ocean are all possible day trips.
We have many interests that will create an environment of learning and adventure but we also value spending some down time at home with the dogs. Chris loves hiking, cooking and games; Michelle loves yoga, puzzles and researching our family trees. We both have a passion for music, going to concerts or sporting events, spending time at the ocean and discovering new places. We can't wait to share these things we love with our child, create memories and new traditions as a family, and watch them find their own passions in life.
We have spent many years building successful careers that have allowed us to create a strong and stable home. We are prepared for the happiness and inevitable challenges that come with raising a child. We are committed to leading by example, teaching them to value honesty, open communication, respect and having fun. Most of all, we want our child to feel safe, unconditionally loved and free to express themselves without judgment.
Our honesty and open communication includes sharing our child's adoption story with them. We want them to know that they are loved by so many people, including the mother that gave them the special gift of life. We respect the level of communication you want to have and understand that this can change over time. We look forward to sending letters and pictures and hope that these will assure you of the decision that you've made. We also would be open to discussing communication via email, phone calls and visits.
We are so excited to become parents! We consider it a great privilege to raise a child, to give them the love and experiences that will help shape them into a caring and successful adult. We would be honored to be a part of your adoption plan and we look forward to meeting you. Thank you for taking time to read our story.
