Ben & Heidi
Hello and welcome! We are Ben and Heidi. We're looking to grow our family, but for that we need you. We have a whole lot of joy and love to share, and the gift you are considering is without compare. Thanks for taking the time to check out our profile. We trust whatever choice you make will be right.
Our Family Traditions
Traditions are very important to us. They provide great memories and something to look forward to year after year. Many of our traditions revolve around the holidays. Every Easter we have an egg decorating party at our house with our niece and nephew. Our annual pumpkin carving contest takes place every Halloween and we always give out fun prizes to the winners. At Christmas time we have so many traditions like decorating the tree, watching holiday movies, making snowflakes to hang in our home, and hosting a gingerbread house decorating day. Everyone gets their own house which Heidi bakes from scratch and we spend hours decorating and eating all the candies. It is one of the highlights of the season. New Years day always starts with frying a new treat like donuts which we all have fun decorating together.
Every summer for the last 40 years Heidi's family gathers at the same lake for a family reunion that lasts four days. It is a great time to catch up with family, eat good food, boat, swim, golf and more. They all cannot wait to have a new addition to the family!
Some of our traditions are simple like taking a walk in the winter during a snowstorm, going on picnics in the summertime and taking a road trip to Chicago to visit family every fall. We look forward to sharing these traditions and creating new ones with our child.
Our Leisure Time
We love living in Minnesota because we get to fully experience all four seasons and the various activities involved. In the summertime we like to spend time outdoors swimming in our pool, walking around the lakes, riding bikes, frisbee golfing and going to our family reunion. The end of summer highlight is our annual trip to the MN State Fair! Fall is one of our favorite seasons because it means apple picking, baking pies, our annual family pumpkin carving contest and celebrating Heidi's favorite holiday, Halloween! Winter means cold and lots of snow so we frequent the movie theaters and find new crafts to make. The Christmas Spirit is strong in our home. We love to decorate and watch Holiday movies, bake Christmas goodies and get together with family to make gingerbread houses. Late night walks in the falling snow have become a tradition. Spring means getting back outdoors and planting our garden again.
Heidi is a gifted baker, a love passed down from both of her grandmothers. We have a new dessert every week and the weekends always start off with a sweet treat. Since her first nephew's second birthday she has made a custom cake for each niece and nephew's birthday. They get to pick whatever idea they want ranging from R2D2, superheroes, frisbee golf, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Minecraft, The Little Mermaid and more. Heidi has also baked wedding cakes for a few friends. It is our dream to start our own baking business.
Adoption in Our Family
Both Heidi's mother and uncle were adopted. Heidi grew up knowing this fact and saw the impact it had on her family. Her mother grew up knowing she was adopted, but did not know who her birth parents were as her adoption was closed (which was very common at that time). However, After many years and a difficult search she was able to find her birth mother. Finally putting this missing piece in her puzzle answered many of the questions she always had thought about. Heidi was fortunate enough to get to meet her as well and has spent time with her on several visits. Her mother has always been open about being an adopted child and this knowledge makes us feel confident that we will be better equipped to explain adoption to our child. Heidi's mom is one of our biggest supporters for adoption and will be an invaluable help and cheerleader for us as a couple and also our new child.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a two-bedroom apartment overlooking a lovely golf course in Minnesota. There are many families with children of all ages from varying ethnic backgrounds in our complex. We have a playground right outside of our front door and an outdoor swimming pool for summer fun. Our balcony gets lots of sun which is great for the herb garden we plant every spring. It is a nice place to spend some quiet time. Throughout the year our complex hosts events such as Turkey Bingo, ice cream socials and more to encourage a sense of community.
We live in a suburban area that attracts families from different cultures. Within walking distance there are many local parks and lakes to explore. Our city is part of a park district with hiking, biking and walking trails spanning for miles only steps away from our home. There are many schools in our area, and the high school and community center are just two miles down the road. Heidi's mom lives a short walk away, too!
Our Extended Families
We are lucky and both come from close-knit families. Ben's mother, step father and two of three sisters live near us. Ben's dad and his family live less than two hours away so we are able to make frequent trips to visit. Ben and his dad also keep in touch regularly over the phone.
Heidi's mom lives within walking distance from our house. She is very much looking forward to adding a third grandchild to the family. We see her several times throughout the week and speak with her daily. She is one of our biggest supporters in our adoption journey having been adopted herself.
Heidi's sister and her family are just a 15-minute drive away. We spend lots of time playing with her and our niece and nephew. We are always finding new activities to do together like bowling, swimming in our pool, frisbee golfing, walks to the park, or trying out new craft projects. Heidi's sister cannot wait to become an "auntie" and cuddle with her new niece or nephew.
From Us to You
Hello and thank you for taking the time to get to know us, and for all the time you are spending considering if adoption is the right choice for you. If you have any apprehension, we hope getting to know us better will give you some relief. We cannot pretend to imagine all the emotions you are going through, we just want you to know we will always be there for you.
We met right after high school through mutual friends, and the first night we met we both knew we had lucked out. Part of what makes our relationship so strong is that we really are best friends. We have always known we wanted to have a child. After many years of trying for a baby, we have come to terms with the fact that we cannot conceive a biological child. We feel so lucky that you are giving us the opportunity to add a child to our family through adoption. Adoption has touched our lives because both Heidi's mother and uncle were adopted. Adoption has always been in our hearts, and we truly believe we were meant to be adoptive parents.
We want you to know that our child will be raised in a home filled with joy and love. We have been together for 15 years and are more in love now and are more so with each passing year. We have so much more love yet to share! Family time and traditions are important to us. We cannot wait to share these with our child and also to create new ones as a family of three. Our child will be raised in a home that believes in the importance of family pizza nights, playing in the rain and snow, listening to music, playing board games, ice cream dates, picnics, and that holiday traditions are all important parts of life. We also believe in a good education and that making mistakes are a part of life because they help you learn and grow. We will always be there to support our child no matter how many times they may stumble along the way. Ben is excited to go on outdoor adventures, teach our child to ride a bike, how to play cards, and so much more. Heidi can't wait to have a child to decorate for the holidays with, bake with, read stories with, make up silly songs with and more. Both of our extended families are also very special to us and have been very supportive of our desire to grow our family through adoption. They are all anxiously awaiting a new addition to the family to love on.
We will happily share both photos and letters with you as our child grows so that you will be able to keep up with both the big milestones and the everyday adventures. After all, you will be an important part of our family. We want our child to know although we are the parents our new family wouldn't exist without your love. You are part of our child's story, and the gift you are giving will never be forgotten. We will be supportive of whatever role you wish to play. We will always be there for you with open hearts and arms.
With love and gratitude,
Ben & Heidi
