Tom & Saule

We met over ten years ago and while we have had many good experiences during that time we have always felt ready to become parents. Being there for your child as he or she begins their journey in life and offering our unconditional love and support at every step of the way is something that we look forward to.

How We Met

Warm Hugs

We met a little over 12 years ago in Ust-Kameongorsk, Kazakhstan where Saule was working as a lecturer at the university and where Tom was working as a volunteer in the Peace Corps. After our initial meeting at a nightclub in the city, we dated for the next six months until Tom's tour of service ended and he had to return to the United States.

Even before Tom left Kazakhstan, we knew that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with each other, and so Tom began the paperwork to bring Saule to the United States upon his return. The following year was very difficult for us because we were apart, but we remained committed to our relationship and knew we wanted to be together. Eventually, Saule's visa application was approved and she was able to move to the U.S. We were married shortly after she arrived.

A lot had changed over the last 12 years, but we feel that the separation that we had to endure in the beginning of our relationship made it stronger, overall. We are truly best friends and enjoy every moment we have together. We are so ready to become parents so that we can share this love with a child. We know there are many adventures ahead of us together as a family and we cannot wait!

What Makes Us Unique

In the Jungle

Saule is very driven and goal-oriented and has steadily advanced her career in nursing since coming to the United States 11 years ago. She is also very family-oriented and keeps in touch with her family in Kazakhstan on an almost daily basis via phone calls and texts. If they have other needs she doesn't hesitate to offer other assistance; she has effectively cared for her nephew and nieces as if they were her own children since they were born.

Tom has a calm demeanor and manages to spread this peacefulness to others, even in the midst of chaos. He is always curious about his surroundings and feels that it is important to always keep educating himself to gain as much knowledge as possible. If he wants to find out more about something and that means getting out of his comfort zone he will do so without question. He also takes the viewpoints of others to better understand their motivations and to expand his understanding of them at the same time.

Fun Facts About Us:

  • We speak four languages in our household (English, German, Russian, and Kazakh) and would be happy if we were able to teach your child at least a few of them.
  • The cashier at our grocery store always has to look up the strange vegetables that we buy; some of our recent finds include daikon radishes, rutabagas, and jackfruit. We love coming up with new recipes and using unusual ingredients for them.
  • We are avid world travelers, going to Kazakhstan and Austria to visit our families and visiting countries in other parts of the world when we have the time.
  • Both of us are big fans of Star Trek and of science fiction in general.
  • Tom is very tall and Saule is short so between the both of us we can reach anything from store shelves, no matter if they are on the top or the bottom shelf.
  • Saule has a very energetic personality and can motivate anyone to do anything. She also makes friends with children quickly and easily, no matter what the situation is.
  • Tom's personality is more laid back and he tends to be a good listener.
  • Saule can fix anything.
  • We have very eclectic tastes in music and are willing to listen to anything at least once.
  • We love dogs and would have a few more other than Bruno if we could.

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Den

We live in a primarily rural area in central Wisconsin. The town that we live in has a strong school district and has many resources for families. The Central Wisconsin Fair is a fun time every year and there are several sport complexes in the area where children can play baseball, soccer, and hockey. We live within walking distance of the elementary school and there are many families with young children who live in our immediate neighborhood.

    Nearby Playground

Our home is a 3 bedroom duplex close to the center of town; we enjoy its two level layout and its spaciousness. A small porch and backyard allows us to eat outside and relax; we also enjoy gardening and always have lots of flowers and vegetable plants during the summer.

There is a YMCA with children's programs as well as a public swimming pool and a zoo in town so there are plenty of activities in which your child would be able to participate. We feel that our town has a lot of positives for children and can't wait to get him or her involved.

    Our Extended Families

    Saule's Family

Our extended families are spread all over the world so it can be difficult for everyone to get together at the same place. Saule frequently calls her family in Kazakhstan and spends a lot of time talking to and helping her nephew and nieces. At least once every two years we will travel to her country to bring her family gifts and to spend a lot of time visiting with her old friends. Saule likes to stay in contact with her heritage by creating ethnic crafts during her spare time; she also loves to cook traditional Kazakh and Russian dishes while introducing her own flair to them.

    Picnic With Family

Tom's parents are deceased but he frequently writes his siblings about what's going on in his life. While we do not have extended families that are nearby we do have a strong network of friends who we can rely upon when we need their support. We also feel that our experience as a mixed race couple has opened our eyes towards and has made us more accepting of different cultures and viewpoints. Exploring these diversities with your child is something that we look forward to.

    From Us to You

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our profile and learn more about us. We are sure you probably have a lot of questions about adoption and possibly about us, as a couple. We greatly admire you for considering adoption and hope to learn more about you, too.

We have been together for over 12 years and have been married for 10 of those years. Our family is an unconventional one in many ways; we're a biracial couple, our relatives are spread all over the world, and we tend to choose the path less traveled when looking for new experiences. We have always felt that being unconventional offers lots of positives in life and we cannot wait to see where this next chapter of our lives leads us!

We have actively been trying for a child of our own through all possible means, but without success. Family is very important to us and we look forward to having a family of our own. We spoil our nephews and nieces at every chance that we get and love to watch them grow and take their own journeys through life. If you were to consider us as adoptive parents, we can promise you a warm and caring home for your child and the ability for you to stay involved with their life throughout the years. You won't have to say goodbye to your child and can follow their journey through life through photos, emails, and visits. As adoptive parents we would be open to all forms of communication, including letters and photos, because we understand that the bond you feel towards your child is important and is something that needs to be supported. We know that your child will always be part of you.

As couple, we have many things that we enjoy doing together. Travel is very important to us because we feel that it can teach you a lot about other people and their goals and dreams. We try to go on at least one beach vacation per year and aside from visiting our families abroad we also make it a point to visit places that we have never been to before. Gardening in the summer is also something that we enjoy because it is relaxing and because it feels good to create something with your own hands. Cooking international cuisine is another hobby of ours, both the dishes that we grew up as well as fusions of foods from different places. Experimenting with different ingredients is fun and can sometimes have surprising results!

Our dog Bruno is also an important part of our lives. We have had him for almost 9 years and during that time we not only learned what it takes to care for another being but also how our personalities have helped to form his. He mostly seems to take after Tom because he tends to be laid back and calm but occasionally he will pull all of his toys out of his basket and will play with them like a puppy. Bruno will offer emotional support when needed and can often be found watching movies with us on the family couch. We loved to watch him evolve to what he is today and are amazed at how much joy he brings to our lives. Even though we can't communicate through language we share a connection that can't be easily described and that can't be dismissed.

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter to you. Please let us know if you have any questions; we look forward to getting to know you!
