Fred & Sunny

Hello! We are Fred and Sunny. We have been a couple for seventeen years and parents to an adorable girl for seven years. There is an abundance of love and laughter in our home; and we cannot wait to share that with another child. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us and we look forward to the journey that lies ahead of us.

Our Adventures

Spring Break in St. Maarten

Spending quality time together as a family is our number one priority. We love to travel and Sunny plans several family vacations every year. Every winter, we take one to two ski trips as a family. Meadow has become an amazing skier and is already skiing down the black diamonds faster than we can keep up. For spring break, we usually go somewhere in the Caribbean for a week and enjoy snorkeling and playing on the beach as a family. In the summer, we spend a week in Virginia beach with Fred's family and another week in the Outer Banks.

We try to encourage building family memories and having experiences over toys or material goods. Instead of lots of toys for her birthday, we take Meadow on a family trip that she helps to choose. This past year we went on a cruise to Bermuda for her birthday.

We cannot wait to start a birthday travel tradition with this child. We look forward to discovering their travel likes and planning fun excursions that interest the child.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Enjoying the Sunset

Sunny About Fred: Fred is a fantastic dad! Since our daughter's birth, he has made her his number one priority and there's nothing too silly, too crazy or too lame that he won't do in order to put a smile on her face. From allowing our daughter to dress him up in princess attire for a tea party to memorizing and singing all the lyrics from the Frozen soundtrack, he does it all. Beyond giving her his attention, he seeks out ways for them to spend quality time together. He joined the Y-Princesses, which is a father-daughter group with the YMCA that meets once a month and camps twice a year. He plans elaborate geocaching adventures on the weekends because Meadow loves to search for treasures. Without a doubt, this child will be equally blessed with Fred's attention and love.

Fred About Sunny: Sunny is a wonderful, thoughtful, caring mom. She loves to plan fun parties for Meadow and her friends. Every year she hosts Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter, Christmas, and End-of-School kid parties. The kids never want to leave our home! Sunny treasures her time with Meadow and is always planning fun mommy/daughter adventures. From movie dates, to manicures, to girl camp-outs, they always have a great time together. She has so much love and creative energy to give and I can't wait for this child to experience a childhood with Sunny as their mom.

Adoption in Our Family

Adoption has touched our lives personally. Fred's mom is adopted. She grew up not knowing who her parents were and we know she always wondered about her birth family when she was growing up. When she was much older, and after extensive investigations, she was able to find out who her biological parents were. Unfortunately, her biological father had passed away and her biological mother was in a nursing home suffering from dementia. Given our knowledge of Fred's mom's experience, we believe it is best for a child to know from the beginning that they are adopted, that their biological parents love them and that they made the ultimate selfless act in putting their child up for adoption. We know how important it was to Fred's mom to know her biological parents, and we know it will be important to this child to know and connect with his/her biological family.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We love our neighborhood! We live about six miles outside of a big city in Virginia. Despite our proximity to the city, our neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. Each home sits on 1-2 acres affording each family space and privacy. Our home sits on a hill with a creek on each side. Our daughter loves jumping through the creeks in her mud boots, where she finds bugs to look at under her magnifying glass. In addition to the two creeks, our back yard has two zip lines, a slack line and a trampoline. Playing outside and enjoying nature is important to our family and our neighborhood and our home affords us those opportunities. A short distance down the street is the neighborhood playground and ponds. Fred and our daughter love to fish or take the canoe out for a spin.

Ziplining in the Back Yard

Virginia is one of those magical states where you can be in the mountains skiing in the morning and by the afternoon you can be on a beautiful beach. We live less than two hours from both ski resorts and fabulous beaches. Every winter, we spend weekends skiing as a family; and when the weather warms up, we love to go to the beach.

We are also blessed to be within 30 minutes of a theme park. Every year we get season passes. Listening to Fred scream on the roller coasters is always fun!

Our Extended Families

Christmas With Sunny's Family

We both come from close-knit families, where quality family time is valued and a priority in our day-to-day lives. We see both sides of our family on a weekly basis, whether it be family dinners, a birthday party or one of our many annual vacation/holiday traditions. Between the two of us, we have four brothers, and all our brothers have amazing wives and children. Watching the cousins interacting with each other is a joy; and we cannot wait to see how they embrace and love this child.

Virginia Beach With Fred's Family

Sunny's parents have a river home and another home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are blessed to get to spend time there together as a family. Most weekends in the summer are spent at the river house cruising on the boat and tubing behind the jet ski. Thanksgiving and Easter are spent at the home in the Blue Ridge, where we ride motorcycles, ATV's and tractors around the fields and trails. Every Easter "the bunny" spreads out clues and treats for the children over 200 acres that ultimately lead them to their Easter baskets. It is adorable to see their faces light up each time they find a treat.

Fred's parents live on a river, too. We love spending time there in the summer jumping off the dock and playing in the mud. Every year, Fred's family gathers together in Virginia Beach for a fun week together. The cousins love boogie boarding, playing games and biking the boardwalk.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us and considering us to be adoptive parents. We realize the deep love and strength it must take to consider such a selfless decision as adoption. There is no doubt that the decision ahead of you will be the most difficult one of your life; and you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Please know that we are committed to being the most loving parents and offering all that we can of ourselves to this child. We will try in this short letter, to give you a little more background on us.

Fred graduated from the College of William and Mary and he has been working in the Information Technology (computer geek) field ever since. He is one of those rare souls that truly loves his career and his day-to-day life at work. Every day he is solving puzzles and enjoys the endless challenge of his field. Although he works full time, his family is his number one priority and his evenings and weekends are devoted to his family.

Sunny graduated from the University of Mary Washington and then went on to law school at Baylor. Since graduation, she has been working as a family lawyer, focusing on custody cases. Throughout her career, she has represented the best interests of children as their guardian ad litem in abuse and neglect cases. She is fortunate to be able to work part-time (approximately 16 hours a week); and enjoys her days at home with our daughter.

A couple days a week, while we are at work, one of our four wonderful grandparents picks Meadow up from school and spends time with her. We are fortunate that our daughter (and future child) have this special time with grandparents. On the days when Sunny is not working, she picks up Meadow from school and they spend some fun time together before doing homework and preparing dinner.

On the weekends, we enjoy taking quick trips to the river, the beach or the mountains. When we are not traveling, we are fortunate to have two major theme parks within 30-50 minutes of our home. We get season passes every year and Sunny and Meadow enjoy watching Fred scream louder than anyone else on every single roller coaster. When we are not out on an adventure, we love to all cuddle up in bed for a movie, play board games or start an Alexa-led dance party.

We have been together since 2001 and married since 2004. We have so much love and laughter to share with a child. We are generous and kind, and can provide a child with a stable home and a great education, leading to an adult life filled with promise and opportunity. We promise to help this child dream big and be a caring and compassionate person. Most importantly, we promise to make this child smile and laugh every day. We feel incredibly lucky to have this chance to bring a child into our life and complete our family.

The significance of what you are giving to our family will never be forgotten. This baby will always know your name and where they came from, and we promise to always honor your role in our family and speak of you as someone we love and value. We welcome your continued love and interest in your child's life. We will be happy to send photos, updates and mementos documenting your child's growth and important milestones. This child will know that you love him/her dearly and that you made this choice out of love and the ultimate act of selflessness. You are and will be cherished, every day.
