Pete & Mary
We are excited to begin our adoption journey, and we are so appreciative that you are reading our profile! We are hoping to grow our family on the foundations of love, respect, honesty and kindness that are so important to us. Being good parents is our top priority, and we thank you for considering us to be parents to your child.
Why We Chose Adoption
Like many couples who pursue adoption, we have struggled with infertility, specifically in the form of recurrent pregnancy loss. We have always wanted to be parents, and we both agree that being parents is more important to us than having a biological child. We arrived at this decision in our own individual ways, but this didn't include a lot of toil or heartbreak. We have friends and family members who are adopted or who have adopted children, and we believe it is just as rewarding as having our own children, if not more so.
We ultimately chose adoption because it is the decision that makes us both the most happy. Adoption provides a unique opportunity for birth parents and adoptive parents to come together and make a decision about a child that all parties love so much. We have discussed our many options at length - IVF, surrogacy, adoption - and adoption feels the most right to us. We are so confident that the decision to adopt will lead to a happy and blessed life for us and for our future child.
Fun Facts About Us:
Our Family Traditions
We have many family traditions that we look back on fondly, and we have brought some of those traditions into our marriage while creating new ones for ourselves.
One of Mary's favorite family traditions is the gift exchange at Christmas or birthdays. Mary's mom started a unique gift-giving tradition in which Mary and her sister would receive gifts addressed to them, but the gift-giver's name was always different. For example, Mary might receive a gift labeled, "To: Mary From: Spencer" (a neighborhood boy who once accidentally ran into Mary on his bicycle and gave her a bloody nose - she was fine, of course). The gift-giver's name always belonged to someone who somehow had created a funny memory for her family, and Mary now loves to give gifts to Pete that are addressed from memorable people in their past.
Another favorite tradition is the summer BBQ. Pete's parents loved to throw memorable mid-summer parties for family, neighbors and friends every year. Everyone gathered in Pete's family's back yard under a big tent and enjoyed BBQ pork and beef, summer vegetables from Pete's dad's garden, casseroles and homemade desserts. We have continued the tradition with regular BBQ cookouts at our home where we trade stories and share a meal outside with friends and family. Pulled pork is our specialty!
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a very old three bedroom/two bathroom home in Florida. Even though our home was built in 1912, it was completely renovated in 2014 and maintains a wonderful historic feel. It is located in an equally historic neighborhood on an oak tree-lined street. Our neighborhood is a dreamy area along a large river, with beautifully restored homes that sit on well-maintained lawns. There are many young children who live near us, and we are thankful to live in a richly diverse community.
Our home is furnished with a mixture of antiques and contemporary pieces. The old wooden floor is original to the house, and has been beautifully restored to make the home bright and cheery. We love to cook and garden, and Mary is constantly tending to the flowers in the yard. Our large fenced backyard provides a safe place for children to play, and the trees provide shade from the afternoon sun.
There is an elementary school three blocks from our home. We also have two parks within walking distance of our front door, and many evenings we enjoy taking a walk along the river front in one of the parks. We are truly in love with our community and look forward to growing our family here.
Our Extended Families
We share close relationships with our families. We are fortunate to be able to spend many happy weekends together with our family who live close by, and we also have the opportunity to visit our out-of-state family several times throughout the year.
Pete is the oldest of four children. Even though his family lives out-of-state, we visit his parents, siblings and their young children close to the holidays and during the summer. Every year, Pete's mom bakes hundreds of Christmas cookies to share with family and friends, and she loves to include all the kids in the decorating process. Pete's brother Adam is a skilled videographer, and he documents each family get-together with his camera, then edits the videos and shares them with everyone. We have many special memories together and look forward to including our own child in future family events. Pete's family are so excited about our adoption plan.
Mary is the oldest of two children. Her parents and sister live close by, and we enjoy spending time with all of them along with her sister's husband and young son. Mary's family love the outdoors, and we spend time riding bikes, swimming and playing in the backyard together. We enjoy building relationships and memories through experiences, and her family is also enthusiastic and supportive of our adoption plan.
From Us to You
We do not know your circumstances, but we do know it is out of tremendous love for the child you carry that you are considering adoption. If you choose us to be the parents for your baby, we will forever be grateful and promise to raise him or her with the same love and selflessness you demonstrate in making this life-changing decision. We imagine you have many questions, and we hope to answer those questions and help you learn more about us.
We met at a running club in 2013 and got married in 2017. We have tried for over a year for a successful pregnancy, but our three pregnancies have all ended in miscarriage. We decided together that instead of continuing down a road of fertility clinics and the possibility of additional miscarriages, we would rather pursue adoption. We have friends and family members who have adopted children or who were adopted themselves, and we are convinced that adoption will be an incredibly rewarding and happy decision. Most importantly, we want to provide the life you want for your child.
We look forward to adopting our first child and building our family on the foundations of love, kindness, and respect. We promise to love with our whole hearts every day, to laugh together, and to teach through our words and by setting a good example. We vow to respect ourselves and others, as well as animals, traditions and different backgrounds, and to live each day to the fullest.
We have been preparing for this adoption journey, and we are so excited to welcome this child into our lives. We, along with our families and friends are eager to get to know this little person and share with them our amazing network of love and support. We believe our youth, compassion, and enthusiasm for life will be an advantage as we grown as a family. We believe that family is a team effort, and we are fully committed to loving each other and to sharing our joy and stability with this wonderful child.
Pete is currently a full-time marketing executive, and Mary works as a Trust Administrator. Mary plans to transition into full-time parenting at home if you choose us to parent this child. We are fortunate to have Mary's mother close by, who is retired and would love to spend time with this child as well.
You may wonder, "What do they plan to tell my child about his/her adoption?" We plan to tell your child that they are very special because they were chosen twice. First, you chose to give them life. Second, you chose us to raise and love him/her unconditionally. This child will not remember a time when they didn't know they were adopted. There will be no big reveal; he or she will know of their adoption story because we will talk with them about it early and often. We strongly believe that a child should know what a blessing adoption is, and we have seen the benefits of this approach through our friends' and families' adopted children. Your child will know of your selfless courage and love, which allowed you to make an adoption plan to give your child the best life possible. We will openly and proudly talk about the unique way in which we became a family. We vow to share with you through photos and letters or emails how your precious child is growing and thriving.
We have a deep respect and admiration for your loving consideration of adoption for your child. As you make this important decision about who will raise your child, we want you to know we are ready and committed to love him or her. Their well-being and happiness will be our priority. We feel children are one of life's greatest blessings and are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to embrace your child. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us.
With love and admiration,
Pete & Mary
