Adoption in Our Lives

Meeting Henry

Even before we adopted Henry, we had a lot of experience with adoption in our family. Keith’s Grandpa was adopted when he was a child, so we even owe the family name to adoption!

On Kimberly’s side, adoption has also had a profound impact; Kimberly has a half-brother who was placed for adoption at birth. As an adult, he sought out his birth family and we have since been reunited. We all enjoyed getting to know him and love seeing him at family events.

Kimberly has two younger cousins who were adopted from China, and another cousin who adopted twins with Down Syndrome. We also have several friends who are adult adoptees; they’ve provided lots of helpful advice about the things we need to know to raise a happy, well-adjusted family through adoption. One of Kimberly’s best friends from high school also adopted her son through American Adoptions. This child will have a brother, multiple cousins, relatives, and family friends who all share this part of their history.

Our Lifestyle

Hiking a Glacier in Iceland

We are an active family with a fun, healthy lifestyle. We spend a lot of time walking around the city, playing at the park, and dancing around the house. At home, we often cook together, using fresh local produce from our farmers market where we shop almost every weekend. We mostly eat tasty and nutritious meals, but every so often Kimberly loves to bake a treat, especially now that Henry is getting big enough to "help." We also like going to different kinds of restaurants and love living in a city with easy access to every kind of cuisine.

When we're ready for downtime, we love to read; almost every wall of our home is covered with books, and we believe in reading every day. We were both reading on our own before we started kindergarten and hope our kids will share our love of literature.

On the weekends, we like to spend time with friends, neighbors, and family, or go on a nature walk, or go to brunch. When we have a little more time off, we like traveling together; sometimes we visit family and friends out of town, and sometimes we pick a whole new destination and go exploring! We look forward to lots of family roadtrips and international vacations together as the kids grow up.

Our Family Traditions

Our holidays tend to focus around our home and family. Every year, we host a huge home-cooked Thanksgiving feast for lots of friends and family. Christmas is more low-key. On Christmas Eve, we always watch the classic Christmas Eve movie "We're No Angels". Christmas Day is our annual pajama party. We spend all day in our PJs, and Kimberly makes a big pot of ham & vegetable soup with cheese rolls. The soup simmers on the stove all day, and whenever you're hungry you can help yourself. Our friends and family who are in town stop by throughout the day; sometimes they're on their way to other events, and sometimes they come over in their own pajamas and spend the day with us. We all play board games, watch silly movies, and enjoy our gifts. On New Year's Day, we cook our loved ones a traditional Southern meal of collard greens, blackeyed peas, and hot-water cornbread (for good luck in the coming year). It's a tasty conclusion to the holiday season and a great welcome to new beginnings.

Our Extended Families

Silly Family

Kimberly has a large loud Southern family that we visit whenever we can, with lots of grandparents, cousins, and close family friends. Her family enjoys having everyone over for cookouts (her stepdad is a master of the grill and smoker!) at her parents’ house, where they have a big swimming pool, two dogs, and a huge yard to run around in. Her younger brothers like going to the lake with their jet-skis and taking family trips together, and they’re thrilled to be uncles again!

With Keith's Dad & Brother

Keith’s family is mostly here in Southern California. His dad and stepmom live by a beautiful sunny beach that’s perfect for volleyball, swimming, and sand castles. They love being grandparents and spoiling the little ones.

Our extended family also includes lots of friends and neighbors, and their kids. Henry loves to meet up at the park to play and have lunch with his friends. Many of our friends are considered family by now, and join us for holiday traditions such as our annual Thanksgiving feast, featuring Keith's applewood-smoked turkey and Kimberly's homemade pies, or our Christmas Day pajama party.

Our family is big and full of love, and can’t wait to warmly welcome this child!

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Cozy Home

We live in a large, bustling city in Southern California, where the sun is almost always shining and there’s always something fun to do. We enjoy going for long walks around the city to find new experiences, and when we want to explore nature there are several wilderness parks nearby. Just outside of town there’s every kind of camping - mountains, forest, beach, and desert. Our neighborhood has a community pool, several kids’ sports teams, and an excellent library; anything a child wants to do is available here.

Our Backyard

Every weekend we walk through our local farmers' market and do our grocery shopping - lots of fresh organic veggies, fruits, meats and treats that we then prepare together when we get home. The market also has fun family-oriented activities like face-painting, children’s music, and baby goats to pet. It’s our favorite part of the week!

Our home is cozy and full of books and plants, with pictures of family and friends covering the walls. We have a big backyard with a hammock for relaxing in the breeze, and lots of space for kids to climb and dig in the dirt. Our three cats love children, and a betta fish lives in our bookcase. On the weekends, we like to have people over for a homemade brunch or fire up the grill. We love that our home is such a peaceful, comfy oasis full of life and cuddles, and enjoy spending lots of time together as a family.

From Us to You

Thanks for reading our profile! We hope it helps you get to know us, and we look forward to knowing you too. Your needs, feelings, and wishes for your baby are the center of this process and we want you to know that if you choose us to parent your child, you will always hold a place in our hearts.

We’ve been in love for almost fifteen years and married for ten. We met working on the set of an indie film, and instantly connected over a shared love of books, movies, music, art, and travel. Ever since we got engaged, we’ve been excited about raising a family. We’ve worked hard to create a stable, comfortable home and built up our savings so that we can give our kids the best possible start in life.

Our work allows for plenty of family time. Keith is the primary breadwinner; he works on a hit TV show as an assistant director (a crew management position). While his days on set sometimes run late, he also has regular long breaks throughout the year, during which we often travel to see family or friends, or find a new destination to explore. Kimberly is a writer, so she usually works from home and can devote much of her attentions to motherhood.

The life we'd love to share with our children is a happy one full of kisses, cuddles, laughs, learning, and unwavering support. This child will grow up feeling safe and loved, and will have the opportunity to pursue every unique interest they might have. Our peaceful, cozy home is right in the middle of a bustling city where there’s always something new to do; the child will be exposed to a wide variety of different cultures and languages, hopefully even learning an additional language or two. The weather here in Southern California is sunny and warm all year, and we’re surrounded by everything from beaches and deserts to mountains and forests.

We picture train trips through Europe, birthdays at Disneyland, roller skating along the beach, making s’mores around the campfire, impromptu dance parties around the house, weekend biscuit breakfasts, and lots of time reading books together. We promise to provide a good comprehensive education, and do our best to help the child become a capable, open-minded, happy individual.

Above all, we want this child to know that they have the love and support of many, many people and that it all began with you. We look forward to sharing pictures and letters with you as they grow, and if you’re comfortable with it, we’d love to share your pictures and stories with the child too - maybe even visit if you want. You can rest assured that we will always respect and honor you.

Regardless of what you choose for your baby, we deeply appreciate your reading our profile. If you’d like to know more about us, please feel free to get in touch. We can’t wait to meet you!

With love,

Keith & Kimberly
