Paul & Laura
We are honored that you would consider us as parents for your beautiful child. Adoption is an amazing and powerful gift that has immensely blessed our family. We have so much respect for you and the great courage you have while considering this decision.
Why We Chose Adoption
Adoption has always been an option for us. During the first ten years of our marriage, we openly talked about creating a family this way. After experiencing challenges getting pregnant, we tried a few medical procedures but did not spend years exhausting all of our options. We decided early on that we would rather focus on raising a family than becoming pregnant. This led us to the greatest, most wonderful gift of our son, Stephen, who we adopted five years ago. We had an incredible experience during the adoption process, and know how truly blessed we are to have Stephen as our son. Every day we give thanks that he is in our lives.
We are choosing adoption again to further build our family. Stephen dearly wants a baby brother or sister, and we are looking forward to adding a new member to our family. One thing that makes our situation unique is that Stephen and his future sibling will share the bond of adoption. We hope this common experience will strengthen the sibling relationship and give them another shoulder to lean on in their childhood and adult years.
Our Leisure Time
We believe that creating memories together as a family is one of the most important gifts we can give our children. When our son, Stephen, was two years old we began camping as a family. We found this to be a great way to unplug, get outdoors and do new things together. When we go on a camping trip, our favorite activities are fishing, biking, hiking, roasting popcorn and marshmallows on a campfire, and playing with Stephen.
Last summer, we took the plunge and made a two week road trip with our travel trailer. We visited a family cattle ranch in the Texas panhandle, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and watched the Great Solar Eclipse of 2017 on a ranch in Wyoming. It was the trip of a lifetime! We made so many memories and enjoyed the time together on the road, seeing new things and learning about our great country. We look forward to bringing a new member of the family to join in our favorite family activity!
How We Met
We are high school sweethearts...our story starts at summer church camp when we were just 15! We were assigned to the same team and spent the week water skiing, playing team games, and singing and praying in assembly. We became friends but didn't see each other after camp. The next summer, we both happened to go to a dance at a local lake with mutual friends. We hung out that evening and scheduled our first date to go water skiing together the next week.
We continued dating throughout high school, and when it came time to choose a college, we decided to go to the same university. We knew early on that we wanted to get married, so we got engaged in college at 19 years old and got married two weeks after graduating from college. And the rest, as they say, is history!
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a quiet, historic neighborhood in the heart of our city. We are within five minutes of several parks and like to meet friends for play dates. Most of our parks have swimming pools or splash pads, which are a huge hit in the summer. One of our largest parks even has a kiddie train and a spring-fed pool! Our neighborhood is filled with young families with kids. Every evening, you'll see people walking their dogs, kids riding bikes, and moms pushing strollers.
Last year, we completely renovated our house before moving in. We have lots of space for kiddos to run and play. Our house is bright with lots of natural light. We have four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Our favorite room is our breakfast room, where we have a large round table surrounded on three sides with windows overlooking the backyard. It is a bright and cheerful space where we share meals and make memories with family and friends.
Our Extended Families
We both have close extended families and spend a lot of time with them. Paul's family lives within a couple hours of us. Whenever we get together, we like to tell funny stories about growing up. Paul's sister and mom are very close to our son, Stephen. They love to spoil him with special outings and treats, and come to visit whenever they can. Paul's mom also likes to travel with us, and most recently went with us on vacation to Longboat Key in Florida. We always have a ton of fun!
Laura's extended family mostly lives within our hometown. There are over 30 family members who are minutes from our house. She is very close to her sister, who has two kids who are best friends with Stephen. The little cousins get together several times a week and we do lots of family dinners and outings. Recently we took the kids on their first boat ride on the lake where they went tubing. They had a blast! Getting everyone together is always very lively and filled with activity. Everyone is looking forward to welcoming a new member to the family to join the fun!
From Us to You
We are honored to join you on this journey. Poet Robert Frost's phrase, "the road less traveled" continues to come to mind when we think of our paths converging. We are all on the road less traveled right now, which is exciting yet difficult - and every emotion in between. Please know that we are with you. We are brought together through this process. We are already praying for your health and peace, and also the new life growing inside of you.
We are high school sweethearts who pretty much knew immediately that we were meant to spend our lives together. We have been married for 16 years and are still going strong! We support each other and believe that we can overcome life's challenges by sticking together. We have each other's backs and are best friends.
Although we have faced several challenges through the years, staring down infertility wasn't something we expected. We always talked about adoption as a way to create our family, but were still surprised when God pointed us this way. Adoption is a beautiful process, and it has already given us a precious son, Stephen, who we adopted as a newborn in 2013. Through this incredible experience, we have seen first-hand the power of two families coming together for the benefit of a child, and we would be forever grateful to you for the chance to further build our family this way. It is a privilege that we will never take for granted or forget, and we will share pictures and letters to update you.
You may be curious to know what our life is like today. We are a very active family that enjoys camping together on the weekends and spending time with our extended families. There is never a dull moment in our house, and Stephen is beyond excited to have a sibling to love and share life's experiences. In a typical week, we will have dinner with Laura's sister's family while the young cousins play together. Our son and niece will tell you they are "best friends", and it is truly a blessing to see our young kiddos forming lifelong friendships. Having strong family bonds is very important to us. We also value creating memories, whether by beach and mountain vacations, or hitting the lake at home. These years with young kids are precious and we want to give as many wonderful life experiences to our children as possible.
Even though we haven't met, we have a great deal of respect for you. It must take immense courage, love and selflessness to consider this path. We will never fully understand how it feels to be in your shoes, but we are grateful beyond words that you are considering this decision, because you could make our dreams come true.
Thank you for the opportunity to share our story. "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." - Robert Frost
With much love,
Paul & Laura
