Andrew & Leah
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at our profile! We believe adoption is an incredible gift and one to be treasured. Our family is excited to invite a child(ren) into our home, we cannot wait to love and share our lives with them. We hope that you consider us and we look forward to the journey that lies ahead.
Why We Chose Adoption
Adoption has always been on our hearts. We looked into adoptions before we had our first child, but the time has not been right until now. We have three biological children, but adoption has always been on the table, and we are so excited to welcome a child/children into our home soon! Our children are just as excited as we are, if not more! They are at great ages right now (13, 10 & 7) to be wonderful helpers and playmates. This new child/children will have five doting fans from Day One. We love the picture of adoption, as a way to love someone that didn't begin as a member of your family and fully receive them. It is a GIFT to be able to love another child and bring them into our home.
We have several friends in our church, and also a cousin who have adopted trans-racially and we have personally seen the beauty of it. Leah is also half Indian, and we love incorporating learning about her culture into our life. We have had many discussions with these friends and relatives about adoptions and in particular how their family has been affected by trans-racial adoption.
Our Leisure Time
In our free time there are a few "for sure" date stops ... Barnes and Noble or Starbucks for coffee, anything that involved coffee and books! We also try to find a really unique local restaurant ... preferably some place new with lots of flavor. The more off the wall the better! Frequently, we might make a stop at a local hang out where you can grab a drink and snacks and play board games ... they have a 300 game collection, so, always something new to try.
Our back deck is always one of our favorite places to escape to in the morning before the kids wake up, to enjoy the quiet morning and a cup of coffee!
When we are at home with the kids, it's always a balance finding something that all three can participate in. Game nights, watching movies, reading are all favorites.
We also love to travel as a family, whether short overnight trips for a soccer tournament, or longer trips just to explore a new city, national park, or hiking trail. And, by far our FAVORITE way to spend a free week, month, or just a long weekend is to go camping. Either a tent, or just a hammock in the woods, not picky at all!
What Makes Us Unique
We both run our own businesses, which allows us to have a very flexible schedule. We are both able to be home and be present for soccer practices, piano recitals, mid week trips, and also just all of life's little/everyday moments. Our schedule also allows our children to be involved in the work that we do, and allows lots of opportunity to take them along with us. Letting them see what work is, and helping them grow up knowing what it means to work hard, and to see the relationship between hard work and reward is valuable.
Andrew is very calm and meticulous. He is amazing at teaching our children to do something one step at a time. He also loves to be outdoors. He loves camping, campfires, hiking, or just sitting on the back deck. He is a voracious reader, and is always look for the next book series to take on vacation.
Leah is nurturing and loves a good book and a cup of coffee or tea. She loves opening her home, and loves it when people drop in for a visit. She is also a big reader and is always on the hunt for a good book ... which is often a children's classic.
We have lived in the same town for 14 years, and have a set of grandparents and 5 of our 8 siblings living nearby. This allows a plethora of dinners with family, cookie days with grandparents, uncles and aunts who will take our kids and help them learn new bad habits ... like wet willies and eating pancakes with LOADS of syrup! We both come from large families and have relationships with all of our grown siblings and love it.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in an older established neighborhood and have known our neighbors for years. Although we just moved here a little over two years ago, this is the house Andrew grew up in, and we bought it from his parents! We are on a cul-de-sac street with many children on the street. Our older neighbors just put in a Little Library and are always up for "helpers" when gardening. We have block parties a few times a year, and a favorite tradition is the entire neighborhood full of children trick or treat together on Halloween!
We live in a cape cod-style home on about an acre of land in North Carolina. We have a huge backyard complete with a rope swing and a fire pit, and it is often the neighborhood spot for a game of capture the flag or tag. Our house has 4 bedrooms and 2½ bathrooms. The kitchen is often the gathering spot, or our bright yellow dining room! We have a table that seats 12+ and often fill it up!
We have a neighborhood pool and the library sits right next to a park, and both are less than five minutes away.
Our Extended Families
We both come from large families. We are both the oldest of 5 children, 4 boys and a girl. All of Andrew's family lives close, and on Wednesday nights we all gather for dinner and grandma makes dinner for the group. Five siblings, husbands and wives and now cousins! We love being together on holidays to play games and feast together. Also, grandparents and aunts and uncles attend most soccer games on the weekend. One of the highlights of the year is when parents drop off all the cousins with grandma and grandpa to make Christmas cookies for afternoon. It is a wonderful messy event!
Leah's family is scattered around the globe, with some of her extended family still in India! Leah is half Indian, and has gotten the chance to visit relatives back in India several times, each trip very memorable (one with Andrew in tow). We plan to take all the kids over at some point when they are a bit older, and can appreciate the culture, history, and FOOD! Helping them appreciate the diverse heritage they are a part of is important to both Andrew and Leah. A bit closer to home, Leah has 4 brothers, and we gather as often as we can, even though we live from coast to coast. Leah's mom often visits and spoils the kids every time she visits with shopping outings and lots of candy. We love to celebrate the 4th of July together and go all out when we are together - grilling, corn hole, water guns and fireworks!
From Us to You
We would like to begin by expressing our admiration for the strength it takes to consider adoption for your baby. It is a courageous and selfless decision and we are honored to be considered as a home for your child. We love that our family is already multi-racial, and the broader world that creates for our children. It is our sincere desire to welcome more children into our family. It would be a blessing and a privilege to provide attention, security, stability, warmth, joy, guidance, opportunity and unconditional love to your child(ren). Here is a little bit out our life and the home we can provide:
We live in an older established neighborhood in North Carolina, and have known our neighbors for years. We are on a quiet dead end street with many children on the street. We have a huge backyard complete with a swing and a fire pit, and it is often the neighborhood spot for outdoor games. The kitchen is often the gathering spot for family and friends! We have a table that seats 12+ and love filling it up for game nights, birthday parties, family events and community gatherings!
We have been married for sixteen years and have a loving and stable relationship. Your child would be raised in a loving, vibrant home with three older loving siblings. Our children have seen the beauty of adoption and have close friends, babysitters and cousins who are adopted, many of them being trans-racial adoptions. They are excited to love on another sibling.
Andrew is a quiet, business minded, and methodical dad who loves to teach his children. He loves building camp fires, reading aloud and a good movie night. He runs his own businesses, so we are thankful he has a very flexible schedule so he can be home in the afternoons for kid activities!
Leah loves experiencing new things with her children, and watching them discover the world around them! She also runs her own business from home and is blessed to home school as well.
Benjamin is a great big brother and is always up for helping a younger sibling. He loves math, soccer and board games.
Naomi a great helper. She loves animals, stuffed and real! She loves to create things, and bake cakes and cookies. She is very nurturing and is always taking care of those around her.
Isaac is a ball of energy. He loves telling jokes and making his siblings smile. He is kind and is always looking out for (and up to) his older siblings. He loves all things "little boy."
This is the family your child would become part of .. a loving, wild and crazy, always moving, sometimes messy group of people who really love each other. We are so excited about the possibility of adding another member to our little family!
We have an incredible respect for you and plan to talk openly about our child's birthmother in a loving and honoring way. Your child will always know that you made this decision out of love, and for that you will have our utmost respect. We will keep you up to date with pictures and letters so that you can see your child grow. We are honored that you are even considering us to raise your child.
