Aaron & Cristina
Thank you for taking the time to view our profile! We have one happy and active daughter and are excited to bring another child into our family through the gift of adoption. We are ready to continue sharing a life of love and laughter, and are grateful to you for considering us.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
We love taking vacations as a family! Our favorite regular spot is Cristina's family's cabin on the northern shore of Lake Superior. We head up there each August to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery and weather, and catch up with extended family who vacation in that area at the same time - including people who watched Cristina grow up there. We also have traveled to beaches with Aaron's extended family, playing in waves, collecting shells, and collapsing happily at home after long days in the sun.
But we are also eager to explore new places. Before Cecilia was born, we traveled a great deal - some favorite spots have included Sevilla, Dublin, and Hawaii. More recently, we were lucky enough to travel to Italy and share a house with four other families (our college friends). We loved visiting historic towns, while Cecilia remembers the highlights of eating apricots right off a tree and playing with the house-owner's puppies.
This year's favorite vacation was visiting friends who are currently living in the Netherlands. Cecilia loved playing in waves of the North Sea with our hosts' three children, Aaron enjoyed sampling mussels and local beers, and Cristina appreciated visiting museums and hearing a new language. Though we don't always get to plan big trips like this, we can't wait to include another child in our future travels.
Our Daughter, Cecilia
Cecilia is our happy, healthy, active, smart, silly, inquisitive, and sometimes stubborn 7 year-old daughter. These days, she especially loves reading books to herself, climbing on rocks and jungle gyms, learning about animals, playing very detailed make-believe games, and swimming. Cristina enjoys playing board games and cards with Cecilia, as well as doing puzzles and reading books. Aaron is a great teammate in her sports adventures and make-believe play, and is an incredibly supportive father. We love that Cecilia is still at an age where she welcomes hugs and cuddling, and hope it lasts forever!
Cecilia was a blessing after several years of fertility struggles. We hope to be blessed again with another child through adoption, and know Cecilia will be a wonderful big sister, able to protect, care for, and love a sibling unconditionally. Like us, she is eager for our family to grow, and is excited by the very idea of another child joining our lives.
What it Means to be Parents
Being a parent is the most important role in the world to us. That's not an unusual feeling among parents, and it's not a surprise to us after so many years of trying to overcome fertility obstacles. What has been more of a surprise are certain elements of parenting on each of our parts.
For example, Cristina wasn't surprised to see what an excellent, engaged father Aaron is. But until Cecilia was born, she hadn't realized how much he had learned from his mother, a former kindergarten teacher. Like Grandma, Aaron comes up with new, inventive games all the time, can creatively guide learning new things, and is incredibly patient. Aaron knew how devoted to children's issues Cristina is and her years of experience babysitting and caring for friends' kids, but he didn't anticipate how great she would be playing, teaching, and caring for Cecilia. We are so excited to add to our family!
Our Extended Families
We are both very close with our extended families and see them often. We live in Cristina's hometown, and her parents are about 10 minutes away. They're both retired and love babysitting their grandkids! Cristina's sister lives across the country with her husband and two children. We visit with them about twice a year, including every summer at the family cabins. Cristina's great-grandfather built the cabins, and we've been spending time Up North ever since! We get to see Cristina's BIG extended family (including her three cousins who were adopted), and we love passing on traditions of hosting beach picnics, eating s'mores, hiking, and more to the next generation of visitors.
Aaron's parents and one of his two brothers live about 4 hours away; his other brother isn't far away either. Both brothers have three kids, and we love gathering Cecilia and her cousins at their grandparents' place a few times a year. Aaron's mother was a kindergarten teacher, and is still an expert on entertaining kids of all ages! She keeps a full playroom of games, toys, and craft supplies - some are new, some Aaron played with when he was little. Aaron's dad is a college professor, and is also skilled at giving piggy-back rides and making pancakes. They have a pool where we all love swimming and splashing around.
Our House and Neighborhood
We love our neighborhood! We live in a safe, tree-filled area of a big city that's full of families. It feels like every week we cross paths with neighbors with new babies, older kids returning from college, and everything in between. Cecilia loves running into friends from school on our walks and bike rides around the neighborhood.
We live in a cheery yellow house that was originally built in 1915, but has been updated very recently. It has five bedrooms, a finished attic and a finished basement, but we tend to spend most of the time in our family room, which is surrounded by windows. It's a cozy spot for meals, games, books, and TV.
Two blocks away are the outstanding local elementary school that Cecilia attends, playgrounds, parks, and tennis courts. Across from the school is our favorite market, which serves delicious ice cream and other treats, and is a local gathering spot for kids and families. The neighborhood library and community center are just a few more blocks away, near a theater that offers kids' programming. It's a wonderful place to raise children!
From Us to You
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read our profile and get to know us. We admire your courage and thoughtfulness for considering adoption, and know the decision is not a simple one. If you choose to move forward on this adoption path with us, please know that we will support you and respect a level of involvement that you’re comfortable with. We will commit to maintaining connection with you, both before and after the baby’s birth: by sending letters and emails with pictures of the child’s growth and milestones, and by arranging in person meetings if you’re interested in those. We promise that the child will know their adoption story from the very beginning, as a story of love and commitment that emphasizes both the vital role you played in creating their life and how special the child is. And we look forward to creating and continually adding to an adoption book for the child with photos, correspondence, and other memorable pieces of the child’s life.
Our own story so far involves being friends from college for about 10 years before we started dating. After beginning a committed relationship while living in different cities, we’ve been very happily married (together in the same town!) for 11 years. We are each other’s best friend and supporter, and our relationship continues to strengthen with each passing year. Aaron is a smart, funny, hard-working person who is very loyal to his family and friends. Cristina is warm and generous, and is quick to laugh at a good joke and to think the best of people.
The absolute highlight of our years together is our 7 year-old daughter, Cecilia. After years of infertility struggles and losses, we were blessed with Cecilia’s arrival and continue to feel incredibly lucky that we’re her parents. Our fertility challenges continued when we tried to have a second child, and we eagerly turned to adoption to complete our family. We actively look forward to the next highlight in our life, becoming a family of four.
A child who joins our family will have extremely loving, committed, nurturing parents, and a very eager and adoring big sister. Cecilia shares our love of travel, playing games in the house, watching movies with popcorn, reading, and exploring our city’s best playgrounds and activities. She is very curious and has an incredible memory for storing away the facts she learns. We love responding to her (sometimes very numerous) questions and watching as she absorbs new information. Cecilia is very kind and considerate to friends and classmates, and warmly responds to younger kids’ interest in playing with her. We can’t wait to see her in a new role as big sister, guiding and entertaining a younger sibling.
A second child in our family also will have two sets of very active and engaged grandparents. Both sets of grandparents love spending time with Cecilia and visit with her as often as possible. There are many cousins to visit and play with, either in one of our hometowns or out of town during an extended family adventure. We are lucky to be surrounded by such a loving and generous family who would immediately welcome a child who joins us through adoption.
Thank you again for getting to know more about us. We truly appreciate the thought, time, and energy that you’re putting into this consideration, and are so grateful that you’re considering adoption. We wish you all the best along this path and in the future.
