Bart & Lynnette
The longing for children was a part of each of our lives before we even met. Together, we have looked forward to being parents for a while now and are super excited about sharing our future adventures with a little one. There is no way to know how you feel right now but we understand that you love this baby. We hope to meet you and learn about your hopes and dreams for this child.
Why We Chose Adoption
We both love kids and enjoy having them in our lives. In fact, having a family was so important to us that it was a topic we openly discussed fairly early in our relationship.
However, expanding our family has been a challenging journey for us. We tried to have a family through traditional methods, but were unsuccessful. After much soul searching, we realized that being parents is what is important to us — not genetics. We truly have full and wonderful lives and we want to share them with a child. We cannot wait to begin this next chapter of our lives together!
We understand that being parents will not always be rainbows and unicorns. Still, we are excited about the journey ahead of us and look forward to every stage of parenthood.
Our Leisure Time
We love reading, being outdoors, and getting together with family and friends. We also enjoy travel and meeting new people. We look forward to sharing these experiences with our child and seeing their joy and excitement at each new discovery.
Lynnette loves to garden, cook, read, and work on home improvement projects. She is an accomplished handy woman and generally likes building things. We recently built a bat house together! Each year she plants a big garden so that we can have fresh vegetables for ourselves and our friends all summer long. Her schedule is flexible, so she often spends time with friends and their children on weekdays. Going to the park, crafting, and reading together are some favorite after school activities.
Bart loves sports, music, reading, and grilling. His favorite sport to watch is soccer, to play is basketball, and to keep in shape is running. He enjoys coaching youth league basketball. His favorite age groups are the 6-8 year olds because at that age they are beginning to really get excited about and understand the game. He has a passion for seeking out new music and is currently learning to play the guitar. We like to grill/cook together when we have a free weekend afternoon.
Our Family Traditions
We are fortunate that both sides of our family get along with each other and we often spend our holidays and special events together as one big family.
Birthdays are a big deal in Bart's family, so we always make time to get together to celebrate. We also enjoy spending Christmas Eve with Bart's immediate family. The meal and the company are always amazing, but let's face it, the best part of the evening is watching our niece and nephew tear into their presents!
Lynnette loves to decorate for Christmas and begins doing so right after Thanksgiving. Growing up, she and her parents would search high and low for the perfect tree at their neighbor's Christmas tree farm. Bart now joins them. A few days before Christmas, we get together with Lynnette's family to bake kolaches which are a traditional Czechoslovakian pastry. This is a tradition that was started by her great grandmother.
We consider our friend's children part of our family and we enjoy doing a number of seasonal activities with them. Visiting the pumpkin patch, picking blueberries or apples, going to the county fair, and watching the Fourth of July fireworks are just a few examples of traditions we hope to share with our child as well.
Our House and Neighborhood
We absolutely adore our neighborhood and believe it is a lovely place for children to grow. Our home sits on a tree-lined street where you regularly see kids playing, people walking their dogs, and neighbors stopping to talk to each other or hanging out together on their front porches. We know everyone on our block by name and regularly spend time with many of them. There is a nice mix of families with and without children, very active retired folks, and a few younger singles.
Our neighborhood has five public parks. We visit the two closest to our house almost daily when walking our dogs, Delta and Bella. We really enjoy spending time at our city library and are regularly there to check out books, attend community meetings, and grab coffee with friends. It has a terrific children's section and a highly wired teen zone, both of which are always busy. The library, city swimming pool, and a park with kid approved playground equipment are right next to each other and only a 10-minute walk from our home.
Speaking of our home, we live in a fully renovated, two story, four bedroom house which was built in 1900. It sits on two lots and is surrounded by majestic old growth oak trees. Having such a large yard provides us with plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. Lynnette loves to garden, Bart likes grilling, and we both enjoy just being out in nature. We look forward to sharing our love of the outdoors with our child.
Our Extended Families
We live close to and enjoy spending time with both of our immediate families. Lynnette's parents still live on the farm she grew up on which is about 15 minutes from our house. She and her mom are very close and often see each other a few times per week. The four of us get together for a meal 2-3 times a month. Bart's parents, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew live about 45 minutes away. We hang out with them about once a month.
We are truly blessed to have such a loving and supportive family. Our parents and siblings are very excited at the prospect of welcoming a new little one into our close knit group. Both sets of grandparents immensely enjoy spending time with their grandkids and take an interest in their lives. We know that they will do the same with ours.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We honor and admire your courage and can't image how difficult this decision must be for you. It is hard to convey how much your decision means to us. How do we put all our hopes and dreams for our future child on a single page? We love the life we've built together and want to give you the best idea of who we are and how your child will fit into our hearts and lives. So, here it goes.
Bart is outgoing and great at putting people at ease. Lynnette is more serious and quietly affectionate. We spend most weekends working around the house, out in our gardens, walking our dogs, and spending time with friends and family. We both love to cook so we often have people over for a meal.
We are an outdoorsy family and so our lives change with the seasons. Fall and spring are the nicest seasons in Kansas. Spring is a time for coming out of hibernation, reconnecting with neighbors, and starting our veggie garden. We take our doggy princesses, Delta and Bella, on long walks almost daily and plan to get a good jogging stroller so that the newest addition to our family can enjoy these outings. Our yard has huge oak trees which drop a lot of leaves in the fall, so we spend a few weekends raking at the end of the season. Our 3-year-old neighbor, Luna enjoys "helping" and although it slows us down, having her giggly self around is well worth it. Some of the nicest evenings we've had with our friends and their families were spent circled around a campfire and roasting hotdogs and marshmallows in our back yard.
Winter means decorating, cooking, reading and watching lots of Netflix and college basketball. Thanksgiving is Bart's favorite holiday and Christmas is Lynnette's. We are very fortunate that our families like each other because it means we get to spend Thanksgiving day together with all of them. Our niece and nephew are always the center of attention and rarely get a moment of rest with all the chasing, cuddling, and general shenanigans. Every member of the family, especially our nephew is anxiously waiting for another little one to join our close-knit group.
We love to travel and usually take 3-5 trips per year to explore new places or visit old friends. There are so many interesting things to see and people to meet. We are super excited to see our child's reaction to this big wide world. The hard part will be deciding where to go first!
We feel it is important for a person to know where they came from and hope to have a relationship with you and your family. We look forward to sharing our future adventures and day-to-day lives with you. We can do this with written letters or emails with pictures and notes. Really, the method of communication can be up to you.
We have waited, planned, hoped, and had our hearts broken as we have tried to become parents. We know a little something about loss and cannot imagine how difficult it is for you to make this decision. Please know that above all else, we will love your child completely, absolutely and unconditionally with our entire hearts from the moment he or she is joins our family. We are so very grateful for your strength and courage.
With love and respect,
Bart & Lynnette
