Joe & Whitney
Growing our family through adoption is truly a gift and a dream come true! We cannot thank you enough for looking over our profile. We absolutely love being parents, and cannot wait to add a baby to our family when the time is right. We have the utmost respect for all birth parents, and cannot wait to share our combined love with our baby.
We enjoy learning about different cultures and meeting people from different cultural backgrounds. Joe had the experience of being a cultural minority for three years as a child when he lived in Gallup, New Mexico. This experience, and other powerful experiences since then, have shaped Joe's approach to cultural diversity and made Joe want to always celebrate cultural difference and richness. We both enjoy celebrating the accomplishments of people from various cultural backgrounds with Finn and Laurel, and plan to continue this with all of our children. We've enjoyed the annual Festival of Nations in Saint Louis and various other cultural events. Whitney has had students in her classroom from various religious and cultural backgrounds and celebrates that diversity. Joe had the privilege of going to West Africa for a cultural immersion experience during his schooling, and treasures the experiences of African traditional drumming and dancing, food, and the incredible hospitality he enjoyed while there. As a couple, we are excited to learn more and continue exploring culture with our children.
Favorite Vacation Spot
We love to travel! Whitney's favorite vacation spot is the ocean, but Joe's is the mountains. That means that we love to take the family lots of different kinds of places.
We are lucky to have family to visit all over the USA, including California, Arizona, the Midwest, and Connecticut. From our Midwest home, we can drive to the mountains of Colorado or the Gulf Coast beaches within a day. Whitney loves restful vacations, and Joe loves being as active as possible, so our family compromises by doing plenty of both.
One highlight vacation for the whole family, including Finn and Laurel, was when we went to Disney World. We had so much fun and can't wait to go back again some day!
It's hard to pick one favorite spot, though, because we all really enjoyed Gulf Shores, Connecticut, Niagara Falls, Door County, California, and Colorado as well. The whole family had so much fun in each of these places and we look forward to taking our family again someday with a new little member, as well as visiting new places.
Finn & Laurel
We currently have two children. Finn is 9 and in the fourth grade, and Laurel is 7 and in the second grade. Finn and Laurel are Joe's biological children from his first marriage. Whitney has a strong bond with Finn and Laurel, and considers them her own. Finn and Laurel's mom, stepdad, and half brother live in St. Louis, where they visit every other weekend during the school year. Finn and Laurel love getting to go to school with Whitney, and she loves having them there as well. Whitney looks forward to getting to bring this child to the school where she teaches eventually, too. Even though we take the primary parenting roles, we have a respectful and close relationship with Finn and Laurel's mom and stepdad. We enjoy having their little brother come to visit and stay the night during winter and summer breaks.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our classic, brick home is comfortable and has plenty of room for this baby. Our house has five bedrooms, and plenty of space in the shared living areas. We have a large kitchen for plenty of little helpers to help bake. Our basement is set up for the kids to enjoy both listening and playing music, roller skating, as well as climbing on a small climbing wall. This baby will have toys and books, and an older brother and sister full of love and energy!
Outside our doors our small town offers all the things we can imagine that a small town could offer. Our town has beautiful homes, schools, and churches. Within walking distance from our home is our church, an ice cream shop, a coffee shop, and the local fair that is held each summer. Our community very much supports children and our local schools. Our town might be smaller than some, but it is constantly growing.
We live only an hour and a half from St. Louis, where we visit often to enjoy urban culture. Our kids love playing with their friends in our town, but also love visiting St. Louis where their mom, stepdad, and little brother live. We enjoy trying out new places to eat wherever we go, visiting zoos, exploring new parks, and seeing new places.
Our Extended Families
We both have very loving and involved extended families. Whitney's parents and brothers both live close by. Her older brother has autism and epilepsy, and is taken care of by her parents. Her younger brother is a bank teller, and very much enjoys playing with Finn and Laurel. Whitney's Mom enjoys picking Finn and Laurel up from school once a week to play and spend time with them. Whitney's grandfather has a local farm, and her parents enjoy taking Finn and Laurel there to see the cows, feed the barn cats, and ride four wheelers. Although Joe's extended family lives further away, they are also very involved in our lives. Both sets of grandparents are looking forward to having another grandchild, and are very supportive of our adoption journey. Our parents enjoy playing outside with their grandkids, doing art projects, reading stories, and snuggling up to watch movies together. Around the holidays, our parents love to dye Easter eggs with the kids, carve pumpkins, bake cookies, and make decorations to hang up. We are so excited for this child to get to experience all of these wonderful events. This baby will have loving relatives from the West coast, all the way to the East coast.
From Us to You
We haven't met you yet, but we are so incredibly thankful for you. Thank you for taking the time to look over our profile and getting a glimpse of what our lives are like now. Growing our family through adoption will be an incredible blessing, and we look forward to doing so when we get the call. We absolutely acknowledge the beautiful, selfless gift of placing a child for adoption. We look forward to sharing pictures, milestones, and letters with you as the child grows. We are also open to arranging future visits, phone calls, and/or emails if you would enjoy these methods of communication.
As a couple, we have been together for a little over five years, and married for three of these years. Our marriage is a loving and trusting one, built on lots of laughter, adventure, trust, and respect. We might not always agree about everything, but we most certainly agree on the most important things in life. Right now one of the most important things in our life together is preparing our home and family to grow through adoption. We have tried previously to grow our family biologically, but that did not work out for us. After several years, lots of conversations, one miscarriage, and some heartache, we knew adoption was what God had in store for our family. We are incredibly excited to be on this journey together, and can't wait to meet our child one day.
We want to offer up our love and encouragement to you as you go through this time. We cannot pretend that we know everything you are thinking and feeling, but just know that we are praying and sending love to everyone that is currently on their adoption journey. We hope that you have a safe and healthy pregnancy journey, and hope that you know that you are loved.
If you decide to choose us as adoptive parents, you should know that your baby will be so loved and cherished. This child will be given so much love, affection, and encouragement by us, our children, family, and friends. There are so many people rooting for our little family to grow, and are so very excited for us to be able to welcome a new member to our family. We cannot wait to nurture this child through all of their life's journey, wherever it might take them. This child's desires and dreams will always be acknowledged, and we will try to the best of our abilities to make these dreams and desires happen for them. While we cannot wait to share our interests and hobbies with this child, also know that we are very excited and looking forward to the child expanding our minds and lives with their own interests and chosen hobbies.
None of us can know what the future will bring, or what twists and turns our lives will take, but we are filled with joy and gratitude that God is leading our lives and our family to grow through adoption. If your heart leads you in a different direction, we respect you and thank you for following your heart. If your heart leads you to choose us as adoptive parents, we will be grateful for the rest of our lives.
