Adoption in Our Lives

Logan With His Birth Mom & Half-Brother & Sister

Sometimes when you are asked to use words to describe an experience, you feel at a loss because the right words haven't been invented yet! For us, the joy of adopting our son has been simply the best experience of our life. We wanted to be parents for so long, and we were ready. When we got "the call" our lives we changed for the better.

Hands down the most memorable moment was being in the birthing suite when our son was born. That is not always the case, which we understand, so we were happy to have the opportunity. It also gave us a wonderful opportunity to get to know his birth mom, because this was last-minute decision for her. It was at this time that we started to redefine what "family" now meant to us. It wasn't just about our son. But his birth mom as well.

It is important to us that our son will always know that the decisions that made him who is today, were decisions made from unconditional love and what was best for him. Adoption is such a wonderful gift to help a family grow — both with the child being adopted, but the new extended birth family. We want to grow our family because we have so much love to give. We also both grew up with close siblings and family and want that same experience for our children.

Fun Facts About Us:

We Make Our Own Holiday Cards

  • Bill makes all of the Christmas, Halloween, 'Thank You' and Birthday cards that we send every year.
  • Jon's parents were toy and game inventors while he was growing up.
  • Bill is allergic to dogs, so we found a breed that doesn't affect him. Welcome Louise (the Cavachon)!
  • Jon still has all his original Star Wars toys and figures from childhood.
  • Bill left his job for two years to get a degree in culinary school.
  • We wanted a name for our dog that sounded nothing like a typical dog's name. We chose "Barbara Louise." But now we just call her Louise.
  • When Jon was in 8th grade he bought a bowling ball at the Goodwill. It came with the name "Bill" engraved on it. Sixteen years later he married Bill. He still has the bowling ball.
  • Before our son, Logan, was born his 34 week ultrasound said he was going to be girl. 34 weeks! Surprise!
  • Jon's dad is an ex-priest and Jon's mom is an ex-nun. Scandal!
  • Bill has one the largest Lego collections in our area. This includes many sets that he designed himself using computer software.
  • Bill's LEGO Collection is One the Largest in Our Area!

    Our Promise to You

We have never had to make the choice you are making, so we can't pretend to understand all of the feelings you have right now. But we promise you ... that you will always be praised for doing what is best for the child in your belly. This child will grow up knowing that quite simply — your choice to pursue adoption comes from love, and only love.

We promise to raise this child with unconditional love and celebration.

We promise to offer this child life-changing experiences including travel, arts, sports, cultures and a lot of quality family time.

We promise to raise a child that asks questions and wants to stand out vs. fit in.

We promise to celebrate this child's birth family's culture and history.

We promise to listen to your needs. At times you will need more updates, and at times you will need less. We will always respect that and be true to what is best for you.

    Our House and Neighborhood

We Love Our Mid-Century Modern Home

Living in a larger city in Washington state we are lucky to be surrounded by beautiful scenery and kind, open-hearted people. Literally we could drive two hours in any direction and have a completely different experience: ocean, mountains, Canada and more. There are always so many family activities to do in the Pacific Northwest.

We live in a wonderful family-based neighborhood that we chose because it has a great school system, and it is almost frozen in time with mid-century modern architecture from the 1960s. We are also only a block from the neighborhood pool and park.

Our house is bright with a big yard, and even though our neighborhood is older, our block has a number of families with kids ages 1-5. We have five bedrooms, and it's nicely spread out. Our favorite room is the kitchen because that's where family time happens daily. The deck is also wonderful because it overlooks our backyard which is constantly surprising us with new flowers and birds.

    Our Extended Families

The Whole Family Dressed Up for the Theme of "Tacky Sports"

Jon grew up as the second oldest of six kids and both parents worked from home. Let's just say we had a lot of family time. Bill is the youngest of four kids and grew up in a smaller town and had hard-working parents.

We both have in common families that are all about family time that ends up being wonderful and silly when we get together. Games are the most popular way we pass time today, but historically competitive sports filled our days.

Logan is the Youngest of 13 Cousins

Having moved away from our birth cities, we both make sure to visit family if family isn't visiting us.

For us, however, "family" means a lot more than a blood connection. Most of our closest friends are people we would consider family for sure. We see them often. Travel on weekend getaways, play games, cook for each other and see movies. It has truly been a joy to have quality people that we get see so often.

Our entire extended family has been so supportive of us during the open adoption process. We couldn't feel more blessed.

    From Us to You

We are Bill and Jon and we are excited to grow our family through adoption and hoping that you will be a part of this experience. Open adoption is a natural choice for us because it is our wish to raise a child connected to their birth family.

We really admire you for considering adoption — your choice becomes our amazing responsibility. It is our job to make sure your child always understands that your decision was based wholly on love and the hope for the best possible life your child can have.

Currently we are the extremely proud parents of our adopted son, Logan, who is the product of an open adoption. It's been an amazing experience getting to know his birth mom. We are on Facebook together, but we also text and take the time to mail her photos. We are happy to support your desire for communication, and we understand that it may change over the years.

Living a full life building memories with our family and friends is extremely important to us. Laughter and creativity are usually a big part of every experience. We love to travel, play sports, and of course sneak in some downtime. Jon plays tennis and enjoys photography. Bill owns one of the largest LEGO collections in Seattle, and plays volleyball regularly. Together we love seeing movies, trying new restaurants and spending weekends at our cabin on a fresh-water lake in the foothills of the Olympic Mountain range. Most of our dog-friendly plans include our wonderful pup, Louise — she loves playing with our friends' kids. We can't wait to share our passions, but also experience new ones that our second child will bring to us. Bill is already planning LEGO projects for our little girl or boy!

The desire to be parents had been in our hearts for many years since we've been married. We always loved being uncles to the children of our family and friends! Between the two of us we have 19 nieces and nephews ... so far (two were born in the last few years). As you can tell, our extended families are large! Jon's parents live in Denver and his five siblings are scattered across the country. Bill's parents and three siblings reside in Wisconsin not far from where he grew up. Throughout the year we travel to family, or they visit us. Our circle of friends is also quite large and very supportive. They have been full of excitement and support for our journey as parents.

Our life is ready for a second little one! Jon owns a digital marketing agency and not only sets his own hours, but also works from home. Bill works at a local family-run commercial electric company and his office is less than a mile from home. We live in a classic mid-century 5 bedroom home with a large yard and lots of light. Both of us enjoy the city but also love the calming outdoors that the Pacific Northwest offers. Just footsteps from our front door are many kid-friendly experiences including parks, libraries, museums, theaters and schools. There are endless family activities for our family, and we enjoy exploring them whenever we can. Logan does even more!

We are excited to continue to experience the great joys of parenting with a second child. Sharing this excitement with you would be our incredible honor.
