Mac & Shar
We're an active family with much love, support and character to share. We've been hoping to grow our family for many years and that will only become a dream realized through adoption. Our son is excited to have a sibling and be a big brother. We consider adoption a gift and we promise to keep that story of alive in our family. Thank you for considering us in your adoption plan.
Our Life Priorities
In our life the health and happiness of our family takes top priority. This can mean that our focus changes depending on the greatest needs of our loved ones to keep a sense of balance. Shar is trained as a Holistic Health Practitioner and she is the leader in our household on overall well-being of our family. We put our time and energy into building and keeping relationships as well as performing the work it takes to provide financial, emotional and intellectual support along the way.
We feel very fortunate to have the ability to extend resources, whether physical, financial, mental or spiritual to our family members when they are in need. The foundation of faith is prominent in our daily life. We pray daily in our home and have chosen a school for our son which includes faith education. We also attend a local church and participate in additional spiritual activities to stay grounded in our routine. This is one of the major sources of balancing health and happiness.
Our Leisure Time
Our leisure time is spent creating special bonds and memories with our family simply by spending time together. We either are visiting or have visitors on a regular basis and we all focus on doing things as a family, especially sharing meals. There are a lot of pancakes made in the mornings and grilling in the evenings. At the lake we swim, fish, paddle board, golf and play games. We often travel to see friends or family that live farther away. Last summer we flew to Washington from North Dakota and drove round-trip to Missouri. Family has come to North Dakota from Oregon and Montana as well. In our house, with just us, we have much of the same with snuggles, movies and play time.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Mac About Shar: I love that Shar does what she says she's going to do as she has a deep rooted integrity. She shows me that she loves me through kindness and patience. We're a good pair because she's got a great sense of humor. She's thoughtful and caring. She's a great mother and shows great determination in expanding our family. I love how my wife is compassionate about other people. She puts other people’s needs in front of her own in many cases. I love Shar because I can trust her. We’ve had many adventures in our life and we’ve built our trust through many different things. Shar is my best friend. She’s with me through thick and thin. And that inspires me on a daily basis.
Shar About Mac: Mac is a real optimist even when times are tough. I’ve never known someone so driven. He is also very kind, respectful and funny. He has a special knack for trying to shift someone’s mood. We enjoy each other’s company. After many years of being together I’m still sad when we have to be apart and happiest when we are together. He is my comfort, joy and best friend. I know Mac is excited to become a dad again. When we got married, he talked openly about having many kids. But unfortunately that wasn’t in the cards biologically. He’s just so looking forward to becoming dad again and experiencing the joys that come with raising a child.
Our House and Neighborhood
We discovered our careers early and we eventually both became entrepreneurs. That collective career success lead us to buy a home with extra room for family and guests. Our home has a large backyard that’s great for swinging on the swingset, playing catch with a frisbee, jumping on the trampoline, roasting marshmallows on the bonfire and growing veggies in the garden. We keep a variety of flowers and plants throughout the interior and exterior.
We live in a family-friendly neighborhood with low car traffic and plenty of kids. The kids play together on a regular basis and are inclusive to all. There’s plenty of bikes, trikes and tikes, so the neighborhood parents have established safety rules that are communicated to the kids early and often. We host periodic neighbor nights where we rotate as hosts, and the kids can sustain their friendships through the winters.
Our neighborhood is within a few blocks of multiple parks and biking distance to the grocery store. We’re in a logistical sweet spot with an elementary school, middle school and high school within walking and biking distance for the kids as they grow.
Our Extended Families
Our daily communication and activities include our extended families. We’re very fortunate to have our parents and grandparents close by. We get together with our siblings and our nieces and nephews on a regular basis. We travel to one or two family reunions each year to keep in touch with our cousins. We have many sets of close friends that are considered family because we’ve experienced many of life’s events with them, side by side, and we also know their families. When we spend time with all of these people we enjoy the outdoors, especially walking and playing at parks, fishing or barbecuing. The kids all enjoy swimming and we often meet up with family or friends at water parks for a day of enjoyment.
Several of our extended family members have experienced the adoption process so it’s natural for us to pursue adoption as well. We have had opportunities to talk to them openly about what it's like to be on either side of an adoption journey. We’re fortunate to already have emotional support for this process and their perspectives and stories.
From Us to You
We’re Shar and Mac. We're a family that never stops moving. We started dating in 2004 and got married in 2007. It’s been a great ride through many normal ebbs and flows of life as parents, partners and entrepreneurs. Our paths have crossed with you for a reason: We’re both on a journey to provide a child with an established support system to ensure a healthy and fulfilling life. We all want this child to grow into the best they can be!
When you’re considering your decision, you should know that we put our heart and soul into caring for our family. We focus our care on the following promises for our entire family:
We promise to provide good home. We believe that a stable home environment in vital to a healthy upbringing. Our support system is deep and nearby.
We promise to integrate a quality education. We’re both former educators and have seen first hand the value of learning. When a child has the skills to adapt, she/he can grow and surprise us all with greatness.
We promise to inspire a dedicated work ethic. We’ve both launched our own businesses and know what can be accomplished if you roll up your sleeves and get to work.
We promise to promote mental and physical health. We all respect the need for balance to make sure a person doesn’t burn out. Having a healthy body puts a child into position for a healthy mind and future.
We promise to instill Christian values. A moral compass is needed to guide a child when a parent is not near. It’s very important to us that our children understand what is right and what is wrong.
We also care about the birth parents and promise to provide photos and updates. Also, we are very open to visitation if all parties involved decide that’s what’s best for the child.
We want to communicate the birth story early and often because we believe it’s important to know your roots. Mac wouldn’t be here today if his grandfather wasn’t adopted so he feels blessed and honored to carry on the tradition of adoption. Shar also has eight grown adopted relatives between both sides of her family. We wouldn’t know it any other way and they each carry their own personal story, which we know and share.
We believe there is a destiny for each person and there is another child we will be meant to raise in our home. We also believe our 7-year-old son feels the same way because when we asked him, "What message do you want to give to the birth parents of your baby sister or brother?" He simply said, "Thank you.”
We hope we can be part of that journey and part of the village created to raise this child.
