Brandon & Katlyn
We feel honored that you are looking at our profile are so excited to be part of this incredible journey of adoption. We know we will be wonderful parents and are eager to share the love that we have for each other with a child. It has been our dream to invest our lives into a child, and choosing us to be your child's parents would be a dream come true for us. We can't wait for this journey to begin!
Our Individual Strengths
Katlyn's greatest strengths are perseverance and resiliency. Part of living as a military spouse involves being able to change plans quickly, move to new locations, and adapt to the periods of time that Brandon cannot be at home. Although moving every few years presents its challenges in her ability to find her niche at times, she has found a job for a company that allows her to teach online, continues to be present in the lives of her friends both in Louisiana and back home, and has continued to invest in students through teaching Chinese students English as a second language.
Brandon's greatest strengths are humility, selflessness, and the ability to connect with almost anyone he comes in contact with. Brandon is one of the hardest working, intelligent people that you will ever meet. The best part about Brandon, though, is that you would not know these things upon first meeting him. He very rarely will talk about his achievements and does not like to be the center of attention, instead preferring to direct conversational topics to questions about the other person. He has an incredible knack for making other people feel thought for and cared for, and remembers the details of people's lives with ease. These qualities make him very likable to the people that meet and spend time around him, and are the biggest things that attracted Katlyn to him when they first met.
We really love living on a military post and cannot wait to share our close-knit community with a child!
Brandon is not in a situation where he will deploy anytime soon, but he works hard in his current job and is faithful every morning to keeping a regimented schedule that bolsters and enhances his military career.
Katlyn's schedule provides a little more flexibility because she is not working full-time as a teacher in Louisiana. Instead, for five hours every morning she teaches English as a second language to students living in China. This job and its easy hours allow her to coach CrossFit at our local gym a few days each week and lead Bible studies on our military post. She enjoys spending time with her friends in the afternoons and evenings and being involved in the lives of the other military wives that live on post.
When Brandon gets extended periods of time off, we enjoy visiting family in North Carolina or taking short trips to new cities that we have not been to in Texas or Louisiana.
Why We Chose Adoption
When we were dating, we discussed the possibility of adoption one day because we both know families that have adopted and Katlyn also has family members that were adopted. We assumed that one day, no matter what happened, adoption would be a part of our family building plan. Within our first year of marriage, we began to try to have children. For over three years, we struggled with infertility and went through numerous tests to see what was not allowing us to get pregnant. Every one of those tests showed that nothing was wrong. As we continued to pray for a baby, our hearts began to revisit the option to adopt and slowly began to grow even more toward it. We have desired for so long to be parents, and one day we just realized that we were completely ready to start the adoption process. We are so excited that we have the opportunity to become parents through adoption and are already praying for the little life that will be entrusted to us as parents.
Our House and Neighborhood
We currently live on a military post in the state of Louisiana. Around us are countless families with children and pets, and we know our neighbors well because there is a great sense of community living on a military installation with other families who are also in the military. Multiple nights each week, we are standing in the street or in our yards letting the kids play while the adults are talking to each other. We are frequently hanging out with each other and spending time with other families!
Our house is a one story and is well furnished with a large living area, three bedrooms, and two full baths. The front of our house has many flowers and an area to sit because we both enjoy having a restful place to read outside together, and we enjoy getting to hammock in our carport and reading when the weather is cool.
One of the other advantages of living in a military community is that we also have access to many amenities. Some of these amenities include swimming pools, splash pads for the kids, tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, and running trails.
We love the area we live in because it is safe, and the people that we live around make our neighborhood a phenomenal place to be!
Our Extended Families
Although we tend to be away from extended family due to our lives being tied to the military, we love the chances that we get to go home and visit.
Both of Katlyn's parents and her brother live in North Carolina. Katlyn's dad is a pilot and her brother is an aircraft mechanic, so there is always plenty of talk about airplanes and traveling in their house. Katlyn's parents have also always been heavily involved in missionary projects overseas in Africa and in South America. Growing up, they traveled a lot as a family, and as a result her family really appreciates exploring foreign cultures.
Brandon has two younger brothers and his family lives in Pennsylvania. His mom works as an art teacher in New Jersey and usually travels abroad in her summers to places like Russia, Italy, and Israel. Growing up, Brandon's family loved to camp, fish, hike, and ski. They also took annual trips to different locations along the east coast from Maine to Florida.
Our families also enjoy playing board games and grilling out, so there is always some friendly competition going on in our homes. We are close to our families and love them so much, and since this will be the first grandchild on both sides of the family we are sure they will be a little bit spoiled! They are thrilled that we are choosing to adopt!
From Us to You
Thank you so much for taking the time to look through our profile. We understand that the decision you are making is an immensely difficult one, and we cannot fully articulate how brave and selfless we believe you are in making a such a hard decision for your baby's future.
We wanted to tell you a little bit about us. Currently, Brandon serves as an officer in the Army and Katlyn teaches students from China online from home. Katlyn has spent a significant amount of time over the past eight years teaching students of all age groups from elementary school to high school. She loves being around children and spending time with them. Brandon also has a very easy ability entertain and play with children and is always well loved by the kids that we spend time around. When he is not at work, we enjoy spending our leisure time together playing with our two dogs, reading, playing games, and traveling to nearby cities.
Although we have enjoyed four amazing years together, for three of those years we have prayed that the Lord would expand our family for us through allowing us to have children. Through all of this it has become apparent to us that the Lord wishes for us to become parents through adoption, and we could not be more excited about this. We talked about adopting one day from the time we were dating, but this past year it became clear to us that the time to pursue this is now. We desire to be parents and humbly desire the opportunity to nurture and love a child as our own.
We know that we would provide a stable and loving home to a child because we have been building that within our own marriage for over four years. Our marriage has been through many of the trials of military life and has emerged stronger than we could ever imagine. We depend on each other not only as husband and wife, but as best friends. We know that we will parent as a team and will do whatever it takes to give your child a home that displays what sacrificial and committed love looks like not just to each other, but to them.
We promise to share with you about your child's life as they continue to grow. We will send you yearly pictures and updates, as well as communicate with you at other times if you should so desire. You are important to us, and you always will be. We have already begun to pray for you as you consider this journey, and we want you to know that you will be reflected positively to your child as they grow. If you should choose us, you would be giving us the greatest gift we could ever receive, and we are grateful beyond words that you would ever even consider doing this.
Again, thank you so much for reading our profile. We know that this journey has not been and will not be easy for you, but we hope that through seeing our profile you will know that your child would be cared for, loved, and cherished beyond words. We would do whatever we possibly could to give them all they need to succeed and have a healthy and happy life.
