Why We Chose Adoption

Our Family

We have always loved kids and we love being parents! Together, we have a 2-year-old daughter named Alyssa. She is a fiercely independent, sweet girl. She loves to wear dresses and play outside. She has a puppy that she treats like a sibling and she will be a wonderful big sister!

Just Hanging Out

We also have a 19-year-old son named Julius, who is Letitia's son from a previous marriage. He is currently in college and no longer lives in our household, but we enjoy time with him on school breaks. He is a college athlete and is a wonderful young man! He is a loving big brother and cannot wait to have another little sibling!

Unfortunately, we have learned that there would be significant health risks to Letitia if we were to have another child. We know that our family is not yet complete and we have so much love to share — which is what led us to adoption. We are so excited to be on this adoption journey and look forward to welcoming another child into our family!

Type of Education We Will Provide

Playing at the Playground

We value education. Letitia is employed in a university setting that has a private school on the premises. The school boasts ACT scores well above state and national averages. Our intention is for this child to attend the private school. Not only will he/she receive an excellent education, but he/she will be located very close to Letitia's office. She and Roudget will be able to visit the classroom frequently and be involved in many aspects of the educational experience. The school recently built on a new science wing and is currently renovating and updating the athletic facilities. Because it is on a college campus, it is on the cutting edge in terms of educational philosophies. It is a small school, with an excellent student-to-teacher ratio, which affords children a great deal of attention. The school has a fine arts program, an active band, and offers foreign language options that begin in elementary school.

However, we also know that education starts prior to kindergarten — We are fortunate that Roudget can be a stay-at-home dad. He loves reading to and exploring nature with Alyssa. They are always learning something new together. It's so fun to re-discover the world through a child's eyes!

Our Family Traditions

One of our favorite family traditions is reading at bedtime. In our home, bedtime can always be prolonged by reading. It is not uncommon to hear the words, "Just one more book"." We have a few books that belonged to our older son that were saved over the years and passed to our daughter. We look forward to sharing these books with a new baby! One of our favorites is How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? It is a fun book and we love reading it together.

Our bedtime ritual usually begins with a bath and then a snack. After that, we read anywhere from 2 - 4 books. When we are done reading, we say a prayer (Now I lay me down to sleep...). After we pray, we sing a few songs. We have some songs that we sing every night: "You Are My Sunshine;" "I Am Blessed" (a church hymn); "I love you, you love me...." (yup - the Barney Song!!). Once we make it through these rituals, it is time to go to sleep.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our home is situated on a seven-acre lot in the country, about two miles out of town. The home is ranch style, with a finished walk-out basement. On the main floor, there are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, and living room. In the basement, there are three bedrooms, a bathroom, a full kitchen, a living room and a sunroom. Essentially, it is two homes in one! We share our home with Letitia's parents. We love that we have a multi-generational household and we feel that having grandparents in the home has benefited our children tremendously.

Although we live in the country, there are parks and playgrounds just a short drive away. There are also neighborhood swimming pools near by. We often go out for walks in the evening on back roads around our home. We enjoy country life, with the convenience of the city being just 10 minutes away!

Our Extended Families

Letitia's Parents

Our family is unique in many ways. One unique factor that stands out to many individuals as they get to know us is the fact that Letitia's parents live with us. In American culture, it is not often that you see adults have their parents live with them when it is not necessary due to aging or health. Letitia's parents moved in with her about 15 years ago and it has been a wonderful arrangement, beneficial to all involved. Until she married Roudget two years ago, she was a single parent. Having her parents live with her allowed her the flexibility to continue to pursue a full-time career, while assuring that her son was well cared for. It also provided financial freedom to her parents, allowing them to travel and enjoy their retirement.

Julius, Roudget & Our Nephew

Roudget's family lives within a four-hour drive. We visit them as often as possible — usually we go to them a few times in the year and they come to us a few times! We Facetime with them frequently.

Roudget has two sisters, one of whom is married. He also has a niece and nephew. Letitia has two brothers, one of whom is married. She has one niece. Combined, we have many aunts, uncles and cousins.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to review our profile. We hope this letter will help you get to know us a little better. We can only imagine how challenging this time must be for you and we want you to know that we will do whatever we can to bring comfort and peace to your life.

First, we want to tell you a little bit about ourselves and our family. We met about ten years ago and became friends almost immediately. We were friends for several years before we started dating. We both grew up in small towns surrounded by large families. The importance of family is foremost in our lives. Letitia's parents live with us, and even before they did, she had almost daily conversations with her mother. Roudget's parents live nearby — about 4 hours away; we stay in close touch with them, especially his mom.

We have been blessed in this life with two beautiful children. We do not take that for granted. It is our hope and prayer that we will be able to add another child to our family. Our entire family has a great deal of love to give! We want you to know that if you choose us to be the parents of your child, we will remain in contact with you if that is your wish. We will ensure that the child grows up knowing that he/she is loved by all parents — both birth and adoptive. We are open to exchanging letters, electronic communication, phone calls, and visits if that is something you would like.

We are sure you would like to know us a little better ... Roudget is a self-described nerd. He loves video games and comic books. He also enjoys football and basketball. He has the ability to find common ground with anyone. When he coached basketball, all the kids and parents loved him! He is a creative spirit, with talent in drawing. Roudget has a hearty laugh and a great sense of humor.

We are lucky that Roudget is creative and artistic, because Letitia is not! She is a more scientific type. She has a kind heart and is very sensitive to the needs of others. Her friends would describe her as soft spoken, loyal and honest.

Letitia grew up on the east coast. She completed all of her education (bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees) on the east coast. She moved to the Midwest in 2005 for her job. She has worked hard and been blessed in her career, promoting through the ranks and assuming a leadership role. Roudget has been very supportive of her career. Together, we have decided that he will be a stay-at-home dad for now. He has been at home with our two-year-old for the past year. Prior to that, she was cared for her Letitia's parents. He loves being at home with our daughter and plans to stay at home until our children are in school. At that time, he plans to further his education.

If you choose us to be part of your life and to be the parents of your child, it would be the greatest gift we, as a couple, have ever received from someone else. We will never, ever forget that or take that for granted.

Our prayers are with you,

Roudget & Letitia
