Mark & Megan

We have so much love in our hearts and can't wait to multiply that love with a child. To choose us would be the biggest responsibility, commitment, and honor of our lives. We are an energetic, silly, and fun-loving couple, together for over a decade, ready to provide joy, opportunity, faith, and respect to a child. We pray our story will connect with you to consider us as your chosen adoptive family.

Our Leisure Time

Megan With the Soup Kitchen Volunteers

We enjoy having fun and trying new activities. From SCUBA diving to sky diving, we love adventure. We are also on a local recreational kickball team. Megan is not incredibly skilled in athletics, but that doesn't stop her from having fun. Her passion is helping others with her talents. Megan started a church soup kitchen feeding hundreds of people in our community. She also volunteers her time to lead children's church and host a weekly community dinner party. Mark enjoys a unique form of meditation, riding his motorcycle, when the weather permits. We enjoy spending time together. While we love traveling, we know how fortunate we are to live in Washington, D.C. It is a gift to be able to march at the Capitol for worthy causes. On any given weekend you will see us out at a baseball game, riding scooters, ice-skating, paddle boating, walking our 10-year-old dog, and even painting our faces at a local festival.

Cultural Diversity

Beach Hopping in France

We were both raised in military families surrounded by diversity. In the military, there is a blending of societies and people from all backgrounds and races. We've carried on this open-minded philosophy into adulthood and are welcoming of all cultures.

We live in a neighborhood full of diversity where our friends represent many different nationalities and races.

In addition to the medley of people present in everyday life, on the playground, in church, at grocery stores, doctor's offices, schools, and work, we also actively seek ways to connect with different cultures in our city and beyond. We love to travel and learn about other ways of life to pick up little bits of what we love and mix it into our life. We've explored Europe, Asia, Central America, and Africa. There is so much for us and our child to learn about other cultures and it allows us to see what is unique in each of us and to celebrate it.

Our Pup, Diego

Diego in His Birthday Attire

We have had our family dog, Diego, for over ten years. Diego is a Chinese Pug we adopted when he was just a small puppy. He has been a constant in our lives; as we bonded with Diego, we also bonded with each other. We have been able to see how the other teaches, loves, serves, and empathizes throughout the growth of Diego. Diego has been there for our life events and we have been there for his. Megan enjoys throwing Diego elaborate birthday celebrations each year at the dog park with homemade doggy and human treats, decorations, and goody bags. While Diego loves being fawned over, his favorite thing to do is lounge. Diego is a lap dog that loves to be on or touching you and is happiest on a pillow soaking up the sun from a nearby window. He will make a wonderful old-soul companion to our newest addition.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Building

We live in Washington, D.C. The nation's capital is so diverse. Our neighborhood is a mix of young families, professionals, and older folks of all ethnic groups and backgrounds. Baby meet-ups are everywhere throughout our neighborhood and we have friends with young adopted babies. There are also families with small children in our building and at our church. We live in a historic high-rise building in a safe and beautiful area of D.C., rich with African-American history and culture. We have a large two-bedroom home with floor-to-ceiling windows for amazing natural light, a welcoming kitchen, and beautiful deck to relax. Our building has numerous amenities including a pool, shuffleboard table, music room with grand piano, gym, study, movie room, rooftop deck with grills, and a yogurt shop. A playground is across the street with jungle gyms, swings, monkey bars, slides, and a splash park. The playground is part of an indoor/outdoor recreation center with a tennis court, baseball field, basketball courts, horseshoe pit, outdoor grills, and a walking trail. Our city is chock full of things to do, including nearly 20 Smithsonian museums, drum circle gatherings every week, huge 4th of July and New Year's Eve celebrations, parades almost every month, and a beautiful spring cherry blossom festival. We can't wait to share our wonderful home and neighborhood with a child.

Our Extended Families

Megan's Family

We make time for family. Megan's parents live in the country and have many outdoor activities for their kids and grandkids to enjoy including swimming in the pool, riding four wheelers, playing basketball, jumping in the bouncy house, dancing to the jukebox, and so much more.

Mark's family all live in the same town and we gather together for holidays, football games, summertime fun, and important life events. Mark's 93-year-old Grandma Marker, lives with his parents and is a wealth of stories and entertainment!

Mark's Family

Both sets of parents can't wait for sleepovers, special trips, and daily life with their new grandchild. In addition to our parents being involved, we have siblings with young families that will play a vital role in the upbringing. We have nieces and nephews ranging 1 to 15 years old, some adopted and some not, all ready to be cousins. Everyone lives close enough to see often and are already so supportive of our adoption plan. The whole family is tickled we are growing our family and can't wait to show a new baby love and affection.

From Us to You

Hello! We are Mark and Megan and want to thank you for taking the time to read through our bio. We earnestly hope you find the perfect fit. We pray that fit will be with us.

We have been married for eight years and have been together for over ten. In fact, we were introduced through Megan's older brother. Mark was a friend of his and Megan met him at a mutual friend's birthday party. We've been together ever since.

Family is so important to us both. Both of our parents are still together and we have a growing extended family with nieces and nephews on both sides. Some have come through adoption while others are biological, but all are 100% family.

We have no children of our own, but have raised a dog for the past ten years together. Diego, our Chinese pug, is a huge part of our life. He has a playful and inquisitive personality and loves people. In fact, we think that he thinks he is a person.

Mark's career is unique in that he works on the property where we live. He oversees the services for several large residential complexes right in D.C. It allows him to pop in for lunch and spend extra time at home without any commute. Megan works from home as an executive in a broadcast technology company. We have a beautifully healthy work/life integration with plenty of time to spend with family each day and on the weekends. We've been crafting our life to prepare for family growth and are poised to devote our lives to this next chapter wholeheartedly.

As people of faith, we believe God calls us to give to others. We do this by offering our time and love to those in our community. We started a soup kitchen that provides warm meals to help keep neighborhood folk strong and fed. We also teach at our church's children's program and host a small group at our home. Mark is a steward in our community and always lends a helping hand to a neighbor in need.

We have always loved traveling and hope to share this exploration of the earth with our child. We also immerse ourselves in our neighborhood. We are social and love to grow in community by attending ball games, going to plays, watching parades, attending festivals, and actively participating in all Washington, D.C. has to offer.

We are so excited to include your child in all of our traditions and teach them about the things we love, but we are even more excited to watch them grow and discover new things that they love. Your child will forever be surrounded by loving family and friends from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.

We hope to give you comfort in knowing you made the right decision in choosing us. We would love to share letters, photos, and videos of your child. We are available for contact over email and phone and are also open to future visits. We also want your child to know how much you love them. From the start, we will share your child's adoption story with them, and allow them to ask questions so they will always know the courage, strength, and incredible love it took for you to consider adoption.

We are so humbled and honored that you took the time to get to know us better!
