Thad & Megan
Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We are so excited to grow our family through adoption. Our hope is that you will see the love we have for each other and our children, and you will consider us as we begin the next chapter of our lives.
Adoption in Our Lives
Adoption has played a huge role in our lives. Megan has two siblings who were adopted. Megan’s little brother was adopted as an infant, when Megan was 14 years old. Megan regularly accompanied her mom and little brother to meet her brother’s birth mother. Open adoptions weren’t a common thing at the time, but the two mothers exchanged information and kept in touch.
Megan’s sister was adopted as a 10 year-old, after living most of her life in a children’s home in Russia. Although she didn’t speak any English, she quickly learned to communicate, and had the entire family wrapped around her little finger. She has grown into an amazing young woman. Megan was recently the Matron of Honor in her sister’s wedding.
We have another family member who was a birth mother. Her story isn’t ours to share, but I can say it was a secret to everyone for most of her life. The child who was adopted was reunited with the birth family as an adult.
Although we both come from Caucasian families, we have had cultural diversity in our lives. Thad’s best friend through college and early adulthood was African American. Thad also played sports with and had casual friendships with people of other races throughout high school and college. Now, as a business owner, Thad works with employees and clients of many cultural backgrounds every day.
Megan’s family has cultural diversity through marriage and adoption. At a typical Thanksgiving meal we would have Russia, Japan, Thailand, Puerto Rico, and Mexico represented at the table. It is so neat to have so many cultures and languages celebrated in one place.
We also have several friends who have adopted and have African-American or biracial children. We are excited to learn more about African-American culture. We have been reading books to help us prepare for this incredible task, and will continue to educate ourselves through this process.
We have three children; Oliver is 11, Anabel is nine, and Hudson is six. Oliver loves to read, play with Legos, climb trees, and ride his bike. He plays soccer and is a brown belt in Taekwondo. Anabel loves reading, drawing, building creations out of anything she can find, climbing trees, playing outside, and riding her bike. Hudson enjoys playing with Legos, copying his older brother and sister, playing outside, and snuggling with Mommy and Daddy on the couch.
All three kids adore babies and are looking forward to getting a brother or sister. When we approached the kids about adoption, the response was an immediate and enthusiastic “YES!” Anabel has asked to help decorate the nursery. Hudson “oohs” and “ahhs” over every baby or baby picture he sees. Oliver has earned the nickname, “Baby whisperer” because of his ability to calm any fussy baby.
Our Extended Families
We are blessed to have plenty of family nearby! Megan has two brothers living in our town, a sister a couple hours away, and another brother in Florida, who we visit at least once a year. Thad’s brother and sister both live in our town as well. We see our nieces and nephews several times a week.
Grampa and Grammie live on a farm 15 minutes away. We visit them often, and our kids swim in the pool and pond, go fishing, and play with the animals. Grampa loves to teach the kids about fixing things, and Grammie always has some sort of art project or craft going. Life at Grampa and Grammie’s house is always full of adventure and laughter.
Meemaw lives about 10 minutes away, on five acres that have been in the family over 100 years. She comes to our house several times a week to eat dinner or give our kids piano lessons. We visit her house often as well. The kids swim, play in the huge tree house that Thad’s grandpas built years ago, or help Meemaw around the house by picking up walnuts. Thad’s dad passed away last summer, and is missed by all of us.
We regularly vacation with our extended family, whether it’s visiting Megan’s brother in Florida, going to Disney World with Meemaw, our annual ski trip to Colorado or a summer visit to Vermont with Megan’s family. We can’t wait to add another child to these adventures.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in the suburbs of a medium sized city in Missouri. Our neighborhood is minutes from restaurants, but surrounded by farmland and trails.
Our two-story, five bedroom house is peaceful and comfortable. Our living room, dining room, and kitchen are open, and that’s where you’ll typically find us, although our front and back yard are favorite spots for the kids. We have several large maple trees, hammocks, a swing set, and a fort that our kids and the neighbor kids love to play on.
Our neighborhood is lined with sidewalks, and neighbors are regularly out walking dogs, pushing strollers, or riding bikes. The neighborhood is bordered by a creek, and there’s an adorable rock bridge that takes you to a paved trail. We love taking the trail to the nearby lake to fish or hike. The well maintained trail meanders past cliffs, swampland, a natural spring, a cave, and through beautiful trees. Hiking there is one of our favorite family activities.
From Us to You
Hello there. Thank you for taking time to get to know us a little better. We know you have a big decision ahead of you, and we are honored that you are including us in your journey. We are praying for you to make the right decision for your situation, and to find comfort and peace in whatever you decide.
We are Thad and Megan. We have been married 15 years, and have a wonderful life together. We have three children who we adore, but we feel like our family isn’t quite complete. We both feel led to grow our family through adoption, and our kids are absolutely thrilled with the idea!
Thad is a barber, and owns several successful barbershops. He is a hard worker and is loved by his clients and employees. He has definitely found his calling as a barber and shop owner, after working for years in the corporate world. He loves being able to improve someone’s day every time they sit in his barber chair.
Megan is a former elementary teacher, and is now in her dream job of a stay-at-home mom. She values education, and it shows in the way she raises our kids. She enjoys taking them to local museums, to the Nature Center, or watching documentaries with them. We have passes to our children’s science museum, an amazing aquarium, the zoo, and a wildlife museum. We regularly visit near-by art museums as well. We believe the best learning is through life experiences, and our goal is to raise life-long learners who have a joy for exploring the world around them.
Church is a very important part of our lives, and we attend every week. Thad is an usher and sings specials, Megan works in the nursery, and our three kids are all involved in the children’s choirs. We love our church and we have a great group of friends there. We hope to raise our kids to love and serve God. We value family time. We take vacations, go on short hikes or walks around the neighborhood, or just spend time watching a movie and snuggling on the couch. The important thing to us is the time spent together, just talking and being goofy. We can’t wait to add a baby into the mix.
We spend a lot of time with extended family. We are fortunate to live close to our parents, several siblings on both sides of the family, and many of Thad’s aunts, uncles, and cousins. We celebrate birthdays, go out to dinner, have big pot-luck Super Bowl parties, or just hang out. Many of our extended family go to our church.
We will raise a child in a loving, happy, home, with two parents who are committed to one another. We will give them the educational opportunities they need at every stage of life. We will offer emotional support, and love them unconditionally.
If you chose to include us in your adoption plan, we will talk about you with love and respect. We would love to share pictures and letters, as well as other random updates, artwork, papers from school, and silly stories. You will always be an important, honored part of your child’s life.
