Adoption in Our Lives

Volunteering at a School in Jamaica

Adoption has played a large role in our lives. Matt was adopted as an infant when he was only a few days old. Matt is proud to be adopted and will be able to share this special connection with our child. When Matt was in school he loved to tell his friends and teachers all about his adoption story and thought it made him an extra special kid. Matt also grew up with several siblings, who his family fostered and adopted.

Right now, Liz's cousin is also going through the process of adopting an infant. We are very excited that these cousins will be able to share a special lifelong bond. Liz's cousin lives close by, so it will be wonderful to watch our children grow up together. It's also nice to see Liz's relatives so interested in learning about the adoption process as it will add two new members to the family.

We also have several friends who are adopted themselves or have adopted children. It has made the adoption process easier knowing that we have such a strong community of friends and family supporting us.

Our Leisure Time

Board Games With Friends

We both have pretty technical jobs (Matt is a database manager and Liz is an auditor), so we are drawn to hobbies that allow us to relax and be creative.

As a couple, we love going to concerts, playing racquetball, and trying new restaurants. We also like to relax and enjoy snuggling up on the couch with a good movie and our three cuddly cats.

Liz's Green Thumb

Matt loves to play board games and our basement holds his huge game collection. He also loves to swim, and we can't wait to get a family pool pass and take trips with our child to the community pool.

Liz enjoys being in nature and walks almost every day. She looks forward to taking our child for daily stroller rides in the park. Liz also spends a lot of time crafting and taking care of the garden.

Our Life Priorities

Loving others and giving back are the most important priorities in our lives. Our world can be a crazy and unfriendly place at times. We believe that it is important to treat everyone you meet with kindness. You may not always agree with someone, but everyone deserves understanding and respect.

We will instill this value in our child and show them the importance of love through our own actions and volunteer work. We volunteer with various groups that strive to help the homeless, fight for education equality, and support animals. Matt works in the fundraising department of a hospital and is excited to show our child how generous donations make a difference to patients. Liz volunteers at a local homeless shelter through her church. We think that it will be very meaningful to serve food to the homeless with our child as a family.

Helping those in need gives us purpose and makes life so meaningful. We can't wait to share this passion with our child and teach them the joy of giving back.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home Sweet Home

Our home is located in a safe and quiet suburb right outside of a major city. It has three bedrooms and we're so excited to turn one of them into a nursery. We have a large backyard and beautiful garden where we love to entertain our family and friends. There is a small pine tree in the center of our backyard and Matt can't wait to decorate it for Christmas as Santa's outdoor present drop off spot.

Our neighborhood is very peaceful and we love laying in our hammock and watching the lighting bugs brighten the sky. There are children of all ages in our housing plan and our neighbors are so friendly. When Liz was training for her first 5K, she would run through the neighborhood after dinner and all the neighbors (adults and kids) would cheer and high five her along the way.

Our community also has many beautiful parks and one is within walking distance to our home. There are always baseball or soccer games taking place and families walking their pets. Liz loves that the library is only a five-minute drive from our home. Both our library and community rec center offer wonderful activities for children. From cooking classes, to swim lessons, to holiday events (like the neighborhood Christmas lights contest) there's always something fun to do.

Our Extended Families

Our Family Knows How to Have Fun!

Both of our families are very excited about our plan to adopt. We're fortunate that Liz's parents live close by. They are really looking forward to babysitting, playing outside, and fishing with their grandchild. Liz's sisters live across the state, but visit often (and we enjoy vacationing together). They are both Liz's best friends and can't wait to add a new little travel buddy to the group. Our brother-in-law and sister's boyfriend are like brothers to us and they'll make great playmates for their niece or nephew.

Pride Parade With Family

Matt's mom is also very happy about our adoption especially since she was an adoptive/foster parent. She lives two hours away in a lovely lakefront city. Matt's siblings live within minutes of Matt's mom. Matt's sister has three children, who are very excited for a new cousin to play with when they visit for the weekend. The kids love it when Uncle Matt teaches them a new board game and they love making fun of Aunt Liz when she screams on amusement park rides.

Liz's extended family is large, and Matt's is smaller. We believe it's the best of both worlds. You get to experience the excitement of Liz's huge family all crowding into her grandma's house at Christmas, and you also get to appreciate the little moments, like listening to Matt's mom and uncles tell stories about growing up on their family farm.

From Us to You

We're Liz and Matt and it's a pleasure to meet you. We hope that our profile gave you a glimpse into our lives and we're excited to learn more about you and your family.

Words cannot express the love between a parent and child. We know that you have an amazing love for your child and we're grateful that you're considering adoption. This may be a stressful time in your life and we hope that you're being extra kind to yourself. Deciding your child's future is a big decision and we want you to feel at peace with that decision. We feel honored that you're considering us as adoptive parents and hope to be that loving family for your child. Experiencing life with a little one will be an amazing adventure and, if you like, we would love for you to be part of that adventure. Being open about our child's adoption story is important to us and we look forward to sharing with you through letters, pictures, emails, etc.

For us, being parents would be a dream come true. We're ready to teach our child to love others and themselves and will be there through life's good times and bad. As a couple we've experienced great joy and great loss, but we have always been there to support one another. We have been married for seven years and have a very strong relationship built on love, trust, and respect. We're each other's best friend and we try not to take a single moment for granted as we share this beautiful life.

Adoption has been such a blessing to our families and several friends. Matt was adopted as an infant, so when we experienced infertility it was easy to end treatments and choose to build our family through adoption. Matt knows that his birth parents love him, and he had such a wonderful childhood thanks to adoption. There are so many different paths to parenthood and our path has led us in this direction. We believe a family is a group of people sharing their love and lives together. We're excited to build our own special family by sharing our love with a child.

We live in a welcoming home close to family, friends, and a tight-knit community. Our parents taught us to love our neighbors, express our gratitude, and work hard for what we believe in. These lessons have stuck with us throughout our lives and we will pass this wisdom onto our child. We value the people in our lives over possessions and cherish the relationships we've built. We spend so much of our time in the company of family and friends and we know your child will grow up surrounded by a lot of love.

You are literally about to change our lives for the better and words cannot express how much that means to us. Adoption has given us so much hope and every time we see our child's beautiful smile it will remind us of your love for them.

With much love and respect,

Matt & Liz
