Our Passions

Chris is passionate about helping people. In his professional career, he has been involved in many different non-profit organizations. His favorite experience was working as the executive director of an organization that built energy-generating playground equipment in schools and villages in Ghana. He loved the opportunity to travel around Ghana and meet the people the organization was helping. In addition to his professional time, Chris also volunteers on the Board of a non-profit that combines his love of people and his love of photography. Youth in Focus is an organization that provides photography classes to at-risk youth as a means of artistic expression. Chris' passion for photography provides him with an artistic outlet and his work decorates our home.

Ben Getting Ready for His Entrance as Zeus

Ben is passionate about the arts. Since he was very young, he has always been an entertainer. In college, he double-majored in theatre and accounting to continue to pursue his passion for the stage while allowing him to work in a more secure job during the day. Today, he works professionally as a musical theatre actor all over the city. His favorite shows have included Parade, Snapshots, Big River, and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He was even awarded the Gregory People's Choice Award for best supporting actor.

Our Hopes for an Open Adoption

We Can't Wait to be Parents!

We are so excited to take this next step together and create a family. This adoption will be our first child, and we are looking forward to the journey ahead. As a family, we hope to create a nurturing, loving environment for a child to grow up, encouraging them to learn and explore. A big piece of that environment revolves around the birth mother and we are equally excited to build a relationship with you!

Our research on adoption has taught us that an open adoption will allow for a child to develop a stronger sense of self, have fewer doubts or questions, and live an altogether happier life. We plan to share photos and videos so you can see how the baby is doing and we are also open to schedule a visit or phone call for more personal updates. Ultimately, we want to be comfortable and we want you to be comfortable, so we are willing to work together to create a plan that suits us all.

Cultural Diversity

We have had a head start in knowing that our future child may not share our same cultural background. We are very open and accepting people and can't wait to really start digging into research about the child's cultural heritage. We are committed to introducing and maintaining cultural diversity in our lives and plan to learn as much as we can! We want to be sensitive to the struggles that come with being a family of different races, but we also want to highlight and celebrate those differences.

We have also made a commitment to ourselves to travel more often and love to visit different parts of the world, learn about their history, culture, etc. and use that knowledge to make improvements to our lives. We value different perspectives and are always open to push ourselves to understand other points of view. We know this will be a lifelong project to continue to learn and grow in our understanding and we are driven to stay on top of that process.

Our Extended Families

Chris' Family

We are lucky enough to live within a day's drive of both our parents and make regular visits. Our family just loves to be together! Ben's mom's house is usually the gathering place and we spend many holidays there with all of our extended family and close friends. Whether it is Mother's day weekend when we have a BBQ and plant the garden, or our annual Christmas party with themed dinners and a white elephant gift exchange, we always cherish the time we spend together and love that we get to do it so often. We cannot wait to enjoy these traditions and create new ones with a child.

Ben's Family

Ben has a younger sister Baylee and they have so much fun together watching football, playing board games, or cooking. She lives a bit further away, but we still see her pretty often. Chris' older brother lives in Missouri with his wife and two kids. While we don't get to see them as much, we love our time with our nephews Aaron and Hank.

In addition, we have a very close-knit group of friends who serve as our second family. Many of these friends are starting their own families and we have enjoyed incorporating their children into our time together. We look forward to the day we can introduce our child to these amazing people.

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

We live in a two bedroom condo located just outside of downtown. This community is welcoming and safe and even has a pool and hot tub, where we like to enjoy the sunshine or host barbecues. The condo was remodeled this year and has a lot of awesome, new features that we love. The people who live in our community are all respectful of each other and very friendly. We have noticed quite a few kids in the complex and look forward to finding new friends for a child.

The Pool at Our Condo

We love the neighborhood where we live for its great restaurants, coffee shops, and people. We live in a very diverse area, which is great for us as we highly value different perspectives and cultures. We live a block away from a large dog park where we can take our two-year-old goldendoodle, Ellie, to run and play. We also live near a large international school and park with a playground, perfect for children.

We love this part of the country because we're a short drive from the ocean or the mountains and have access to all kinds of outdoor fun! We enjoy being on the water, playing at the beach, going hiking, swimming, etc. and are lucky to live in a place where all of that is right at our doorstep.

From Us to You

Hello from the beautiful Pacific Northwest! We're Ben and Chris and we're so honored that you are considering us as adoptive parents. We can't wait to start our family and are so grateful to you for this selfless gift. We are very much looking forward to the journey ahead.

We have been together for about 4 years and have been married a year and a half. We met online in 2014 and immediately clicked. We were scheduled to meet for a drink as our first date, but a drink quickly became dinner, dinner became a late-night snack, and we have been inseparable since. Both of us had difficult journeys coming out to our friends and family, and that shared experience connected us very strongly from the beginning. When we got married in 2017, it felt like all the stars aligned and we were finally where we were supposed to be.

We live in Washington State near a major city and we love the Northwest for the variety of opportunities it presents. Living in a big city, we often attend theatre or music performances, go to new restaurants, or get to see major sporting events. Our home is also perfectly situated between the beach and the mountains, offering ample opportunity for outdoor fun.

Chris is a photographer and passionate people person. In his career as a nonprofit consultant, he works with a variety of organizations to find the right leaders to help achieve their goals. He is a loving and kind person with a big heart and looks forward to being able to stay home with a child to read, laugh, and play. Ben spends his days as a C.P.A. working at a wealth management firm. In his free time however, Ben pursues his other passion on stage, performing in professional musical theatre productions around the city. He is kind, respectful, hardworking, and is thrilled to take on his next major role as a dad.

We are both so excited to take our next step as a family. As a gay couple, we knew that adoption was going to be a part of our lives and it’s so exciting to think that the day is growing near. We plan to keep an open adoption and would like to develop a relationship with you. We really value honest and open communication and feel like we can set an example for your child by being great communicators with you. We are open to sharing stories, photos, etc. and would also be interested in scheduling a visit or phone calls. This will only help the child to feel more comfort around the adoption and will strengthen everyone's relationship.

Our lives have been made better by our commitment to honesty, openness, and love, and we plan to create a home overflowing with those qualities. We will encourage this child to be curious, to be creative, and to treat others with respect and love. In discussing what kind of parents we want to be, the first thing we knew was that a child would receive our unconditional love and support to be the person they were meant to be.

We are so thankful for this opportunity and appreciate your time in considering us as potential parents. We admire your bravery and strength and hope to nurture those qualities in your child.

With love,

Ben & Chris
