Dave & Melissa

Thank you for reviewing our profile! We welcome the opportunity to share a bit of ourselves with you. As adoptive parents, we are excited to share the joy, love, and laughter of our family with a child. Both of us have spent our lives around children, and our dream is to raise a child and celebrate their milestones. We would be delighted to have you consider us when you are selecting an adoptive family.

Our Leisure Time

Amazed at Niagara Falls

As educators, we follow the typical school calendar which lends itself to natural breaks during the year. During winter, spring, and summer breaks, we enjoy traveling to visit family and friends or to explore a new corner of the world. Dave has a goal to visit all 50 U.S. states, and Melissa enjoys traveling internationally.

On weekends and holidays, we spend time visiting with local nieces and nephews, strolling through the botanical gardens, watching sporting events, taking day trips to nearby cities, gardening, and swimming. We also hold season passes to live theater performances of Broadway events. A few times per year, we visit theme parks where we enjoy new shows and exciting rides.

In a typical week, Dave often relaxes by reading and writing while Melissa enjoys going to aquafit and cooking classes. Most evenings, we will go to the gym, swim at the neighborhood pool, or just take long walks through the community. On Friday evenings, we have a dinner date at our favorite restaurant, frequently followed by visits with Dave's parents. What we most enjoy, though, is spending time together. Melissa is particularly creative at finding new activities which keeps life interesting! We are excited and looking forward to including a new child in our adventures.

Education We will Provide

We Can't Wait to be Parents!

We both come from families that highly value education. Melissa works in a high-performing school district and knows many of the faculty and administrators very well. From her vantage point, she will be able to monitor a child's progress and ensure that they receive an excellent education from an early age. Dave is a college professor and will provide guidance about educational opportunities beyond high school.

The neighborhood elementary and middle schools are both within walking distance, and both schools are among the best in our school district. We will be active parents in our child's education and will communicate frequently with his or her teachers. Our child will also be encouraged to explore different creative, athletic, artistic, and social activities to develop a well-rounded, compassionate personality and become a thoughtful citizen of the community.

As the child's interests develop, we will foster his or her growth and help to channel the child's ambitions along a path to success. With hope that the child will eventually choose to pursue higher education, that education will be funded. If the child's interests carry them down a different path, however, we will support, and (wherever practical) facilitate their dreams, endeavors, and experiences.

Why We Chose Adoption

Our journey to adoption began when we reunited several years after college. About a year before we reunited, Melissa underwent a necessary medical procedure that left her unable to bear biological children. As we both processed that information early in our relationship, we remained steadfast in our desire to be parents, and adoption appeared to be the most promising option.

After we were married we began pursuing the adoption process, only to discover that many agencies required adoptive couples to be married for at least two years. As our third anniversary approached, we still felt a strong desire to become parents and decided to consider adoption one more time. We both have a lot of experience with children and we have a lot of love to share. If all we are destined to be is Aunt Lissy and Uncle Dave, then life has still been fabulous; but it would mean the world to us if our dream of being parents is eventually blessed to come to fruition.

Our Extended Families

Melissa's Family

Melissa is the middle of three children, and an amazing aunt to her nieces and nephews. Her family is widespread geographically, but they are close-knit and committed to visiting each other several times each year. She comes from a family that enjoys traveling, especially to places on the water where they can swim and play. Some of her family traditions include summer vacations, reciting poems at Christmas, making nut rolls, leading family dinner with a toast to a "Happy Family," and delegating the "Official Bite" to the person who is celebrating a special occasion.

Dave's Family

Dave is the eldest of eight children, and loves being an uncle to his seventeen nieces and nephews. Most of his family lives relatively close, and they get together at least once each month to celebrate family birthdays. Dave comes from a soccer family, and at one point, he and five of his siblings all played on the same indoor soccer team! Between Christmas and New Year, the extended family often stays late into the night, visiting, playing cards or soccer, assembling Christmas toys for the kids, and feasting on holiday dinner leftovers.

Both of us come from a long line of stable, happy families, and all of us are thrilled and excited to welcome another little one as the newest family member.

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

We live in a two-story, five-bedroom house in a suburban area of a large US city. Our home has a spacious back yard with numerous trees and gardens. The upstairs loft serves as a family room and affords plenty of space to serve as a child's play area.

Our neighborhood is a close-knit community and active with neighborhood parties, progressive dinners, splash days, wildflower planting, holiday decorating, and many other events throughout the year. Our neighborhood has a community swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, and playground. Our home is also within short walking distance of a public library and a very large city park with walking and biking trails, sports fields, and jungle gyms.

Baby's Nursery

The neighborhood has a diverse mixture of families of all ages and backgrounds. There are four younger children on our street that would likely grow up with our child. Two of those young children are themselves adopted. During the summers, we also regularly see children of all ages at the pool and playground, riding bikes through the community, or playing ball in their yards. With many young couples in the community, we anticipate that there will continue to be the joyful sounds of children playing in the neighborhood in the foreseeable future.

From Us to You

We are appreciative that you have taken time to learn about us. We admire your courage and strength as you consider a brave and selfless decision about your baby's future. We promise to be loving, supportive, and encouraging parents for your child, doing our very best to help them fulfill their dreams.

We met in college many years ago, but had an admittedly awful first date. After many years, we reconnected, and our second "first date" was much better. From there, we discovered that though we are opposites in many ways, we share many fundamental values upon which we built a strong relationship. About 1 1/2 years after reconnecting, we eventually married in 2015.

Due to a necessary medical procedure that Melissa underwent between our first date and our reconnection, we are unable to have biological children of our own. Dave is the oldest of eight kids and has spent his entire life around children. Melissa is an elementary school educator who enjoys spending her days around children. We always dreamed of having children of our own, so since having biological children is not possible, we began to consider adoption as a hopeful option for completing our family.

We have been married for more than 3 years, and we love spending time together, whether it is traveling around the country and the world, or whether it is spent in the company of our friends and families, especially our many nieces and nephews. We love our roles as Aunt Lissy and Uncle Dave, but we cannot help but think longingly about how amazing it would feel to also fill the roles of Mommy and Daddy. We are excited about the prospect of bringing a child into our lives to become part of our family, and to share our adventures in life. Our families are very close-knit and everyone is excited by the prospect of welcoming a new member to the family.

While we eagerly anticipate sharing our lives with a child, our excitement is tempered with the knowledge that someone else is making a tremendous sacrifice to enable our joy. It is with that great respect for your courage and strength that we will share photos, letters, stories, and emails with you describing your child's growth, activities, and experiences so that you can celebrate their achievements as well. As your child grows, we will be open and honest with them about their adoption, and we will ensure that they know that their placement with us was a decision that was made by you out of a deep and abiding love for them.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us, and for considering us as potential adoptive parents for your child. If you decide that we are the family to raise your child and you want to learn more about us, we would be delighted to meet with you during this journey. We are eager to know you and are happy to work together to maintain a healthy relationship; and if you so desire, we would hope to have you visit with the child once in their early years.

We promise to provide a loving and stable home for your child, guiding them towards fulfilling their hopes and dreams. You are in our thoughts and prayers as you face this very brave decision. We cannot express in words how grateful we are to you for considering us. From the depths of our hearts, we thank you.
