Richard & Lauren
We are very excited to expand our family through adoption. We have so much love to give and are grateful we even have the opportunity to adopt. We have learned so much about parenting from our son and can't wait to do it all over again with another baby. We appreciate you looking at our profile and hope that you consider us as a future family.
One of the many benefits of Lauren being a stay‑at‑home mom is that she knows all the best child friendly activities and events going on. She is always taking our son and nephew to art classes, or library events or the many indoor and outdoor playgrounds to choose from. She is always up to date on anything that would be fun for the kids.
Our lifestyle has a little mix of everything. We love being surrounded by family and like spending evenings after work or on weekends with Lauren's sister and her kids, or Richard's cousin who lives down the street. If we are not spending time with our family we enjoy going out and taking advantage of all the things our community and the city has to offer. Being less than 10 minutes from a major city is wonderful and we are able to go to museums, zoos or the aquarium any time we want. We also really look forward to the nights or weekends when we just spend time as a family and order dinner in and watch movies together or play some games.
Every year we get together and spend a week with both sides of the family on a vacation. Our favorite place to vacation is usually on a sunny beach somewhere, where we can all play in the sand. We love having an adventure, but we don't take for granted the low key days we are able to have at home.
Addressing Cultural Diversity
We think it is important for us, as parents, to be mindful of cultural diversity. We cannot predict how this child will feel about adoption, especially about adoption of parents from a different race than they are. Even so, we understand and will always acknowledge that this child will need to have their own cultural needs met. We think knowing their birth family and where they came from will definitely help, so they still know their roots and background.
If they have any questions that we may not know the answer to we will look into it and reach out to others, whether that be you as the birth parents, or other members of our community. We are very lucky to live in a very culturally diverse area, so this child will not feel ostracized or alone based on their race. We have many friends, and even family members of all races, so we will be able to show them role models of their race to look up to and relate with. We are excited to celebrate new traditions from this child's cultural heritage as well, and incorporate them into our lives.
We have a two year old son named Jameson. He is the center of our world, but he is more than ready to become a big brother. Whenever we go out and he hears a baby cry he gets so upset and just wants to help in any way he can. He has a younger cousin that he hangs out with a lot. He teaches him how to play with his toys and he is surprisingly good at sharing for a two year old. He is one of the happiest kids and we know he will happily welcome a new addition to the family.
We love watching Jameson explore new things. Richard loves to take him on day trips. Recently, he just went to the aquarium with him. Richard seeing Jameson's face as he saw all the fish and new things for the first time was incredible, having experiences like that is something we can't wait to share with this child. We are also looking forward to seeing Jameson and this child bond together through shared experiences and growing closer as siblings.
Lauren has been fortunate enough to be a stay‑at‑home mom and watch Jameson grow, she plans to continue to stay at home with this child to give them the same opportunities that he had. We can't wait to spoil this child with love as much as we did with Jameson.
Our Extended Families
We are incredibly lucky that both sides of our families are supportive and just as excited as we are about this child. Lauren's mom lives just a short drive away and is able to see her grandchild (and future grandchildren) pretty regularly. Lauren's sister and her children (future cousins) live close by as well. We are very fortunate that Lauren's dad lives not too far from Disney World and right on the beach, so we always have great opportunities for vacations.
Between Richard and Lauren, there are a lot of family members with toddlers and babies or ones currently expecting, so there are plenty of children that will be close in age to play with. Every year our families take a vacation together and all the kids always have a wonderful time.
Richard's mother is part Japanese and lived in Japan during her childhood, so during the holidays and whenever we get to see her, she makes the best food! They live close by to us and Richard's cousin actually lives in our neighborhood. Every July 4th we get together with Richard's family and swim at Richard's aunts pool and have a barbecue.
We feel we have an amazing extended family and are really excited to add to it.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our neighborhood is in the suburbs, but is less than 10 miles away from a major city. We are able to get the best of both worlds, living in a town while having public transportation close by, to access the great things the city has to offer. Our neighborhood is full of diversity.
There are always activities to do, Halloween parades, oktoberfest, movie nights, etc. Both our next door neighbors have recently had babies and the neighborhood is filled with children. We have a community pool and multiple playgrounds.
Our house was recently built and has more than enough space for us to expand our family. We have a 6 bedroom house, with 4 of the bedrooms upstairs, one on the middle we use as a study and one in our basement. Our middle floor and basement have become a toddler's paradise, filled with slides and ball pits galore. We also have a decent sized backyard that is fun to play in during the warmer months.
Our neighborhood is very safe and with so many children our son always has playdates that we can't wait to take this child to. Whether the months are warm or cold we always find ways to have fun, even if we are just stuck in the house on rainy days.
From Us to You
We want to start off by thanking you for taking the time to learn more about us. We promise to give your child a home that they feel safe in. A place where they will feel nothing but love and can grow up feeling secure. We know that if you choose us, you will forever be a part of our lives. We can't even begin to imagine how difficult this decision is for you and we hope hearing more about us will make you feel a bit of comfort while considering adoption for this child.
Immediately after our son was born, we knew we wanted to expand our family. The joys we got from parenthood were so great, we couldn't wait to experience them again. Unfortunately, after trying for another biological child for a couple years, we found out from specialists, it would be very difficult for us to get pregnant again. We still didn't feel complete as a family of three. We decided after that diagnosis to look into adoption. We took the necessary steps to begin the process. We are so excited to share our love with another child. We have a great example of a healthy open adoption through Richard's cousin. She was adopted at birth and is now in her 20's. She loves her adopted parents so much, but she also has a relationship with her birth mother, who she still talks to regularly. It has shown us what a positive experience open adoption can be and how beneficial it can be for the child.
Adding another child to our family would just be adding more joy. We can't wait to experience all the things our family loves with this child. Taking day trips to the city and cheering on our home team, or just walking around and visiting museums and parks. We can't even wait to stay indoors and do arts and crafts or watch them run around with our son Jameson. But what excites us the most is being able to witness this child grow into an individual and help them accomplish any dream they may have.
Lauren has been incredibly fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom to our son and she plans to continue to stay at home until this child is ready for school. Lauren has felt that her time at home has been a blessing and that it is a great way for our family to bond with your child. We hope that it will make your child feel comfortable through the transition, and you to feel comfort knowing the child will be in her loving care. By staying at home she gets to experience every milestone firsthand and has and will continue to enjoy every minute of it.
We are committed in supporting this child in any way that we can. We will be there to set a foundation for them to reach their full potential and any goals they may have, whatever those goals may be. We know every child is different and we will support their unique dreams. We are happy to share with you the daily aspects of your child's life as they are growing up through pictures and emails or letters and phone calls, if that is something you would want. We will always make sure to let your child know about their adoption and will only speak of you with the utmost respect. We can only begin to imagine the courage and love it took to make this decision and we will make sure your child knows that.
You will always be an important person in our lives if you choose us. We just want to thank you for even considering us as potential parents for this child. We cannot wait to expand our family and to support, love and encourage this child in the best way we know how.
