Oscar & Jerylin
We believe adoption is a gift and one that we treasure dear to our hearts! We hope that in our profile you can see we the warmth, love, fun, and adventure your child will have in our family. We know you are facing difficult decisions, and we truly respect the love you are putting into this process. No matter what you decide, it will be the right decision for you and your baby. We hope that you consider us and we look forward to the journey that lies ahead of us.
How We Met
We met in 2005 while we were living in the Middle East, the Kingdom of Bahrain. Oscar was on his first military assignment overseas and Jerylin was working as an accountant. A common friend our ours named Elena introduced us while she was working as a real estate agent and showing Oscar a house to live in. Since the moment she introduced us to each other we knew that we were meant to be together.
We have had so many happy experiences since the beginning - such as our car breaking down in our first date, something we continue to laugh about today! Since then we have traveled the world and have experienced so many wonderful opportunities living overseas. However, now that we are back in the U.S. for good, we are ready to begin the next chapter of our lives as parents. We look forward to sharing our future adventures with a child and can't wait to make many more memories together as a family!
What It Means to Become Parents
Oscar: I look forward to providing love and attention to our child's development, which will include doing our best to help our child be the best person he/she can be. Being a parent is not like being a carpenter, who sets out to make a chair to a specific design. Instead, it's more akin to gardening, creating a space in which a life can thrive and develop, often in unpredictable and unmeasurable ways. I want to share my child's experience with him/her and make sure I am there when my child needs me. But more importantly I am looking forward to being present in my child's life, attending the plays, school graduations, and birth ay parties are some of the happiest moments I have had in my childhood and I would like the same experience for my child.
Jerylin: Being a parent is a major responsibility. You are in charge of raising an individual to the point of adulthood with the goal of turning him or her into a valuable member of the community. This undertaking requires care, love, understanding and the ability to keep the children on the right path. I would like for my child to live a successful and happy life and I am ready for that. Because I am the oldest child, I helped my mother raise my brothers and sisters since diapers I have seen and experienced the long nights and the sacrifice that comes with raising children and I am so excited to have a family of my own!
Our Cultural Heritage
Oscar: I am Hispanic and speak Spanish so I am very in touch with my heritage. I speak Spanish anytime I can, and celebrate South American food such as ceviche and arroz con pollo. We also enjoy listening to Reggaeton but also like the old Salsa hits that my parents always listed to growing up. However, being part of the military has allowed me work and live with people from every heritage. I work and live with families from all races and we welcome each other's cultural backgrounds.
Jerylin: Being Filipino is a great part of my life. I enjoy my culture which we celebrate through the customs and the food. Home cooking is what reminds me of the Philippines the most. Cooking dishes such as adobo, pancit and lumpia, allows me to share my culture through the food and fortunately everyone seems to enjoy it. We also enjoy watching Filipino soap operas, Oscar already understands the language so it is great that we can watch shows and movies together and I am hoping to share this experience with everyone. I believe being from the Philippines allows me the opportunity to being more welcoming of learning of other cultures.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a military community on the beautiful island of Hawaii. Our house is a two-story single home, 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms. We have one bedroom setup as a guest bedroom and one bedroom that we use for our clothes and sewing room. We plan to turn the guest room into the baby's room. We have a small back yard and a small park across the street. Additionally, our community has swimming pools, kid parks, and dog parks.
Our neighborhood is much like the military, there are many races and families from all over the world making our small neighborhood very diverse. It is great to see that all kids get along with each other, and neighbors support each other. All of the kids in our neighborhood know each other, play with each other and go to school with each other.
Our child will be just as home in our community where he/she will learn how to live, study, and socialize with families from all demographic backgrounds.
Our Extended Families
Oscar was born in Lima, Peru and lived there until he was 14 years old. His family then moved to Florida. Oscar has a mother (Miriam), a father (Walter) and an older brother (Walter). He maintains a long-distance relationship with his family, where social media has played a vital part of keeping us updated with each other. They call each other weekly if possible.
Jerylin was born and raised in the Philippines. She has a mother (Gloria) and five Siblings (Joyce, Manuel, Mercil, Babylin, and BongBong) which are all married with kids. Her father (Manuel) passed away in 2001. She maintains in contact with her family via social media and through the phone (Skype).
We both had different upbringings, but it is this fact that makes us unique and full of experiences that will bring great benefit to our child. Oscar's childhood was good, he had many friends around the neighborhood who play sports with and enjoyed being outside. The challenging part of Oscar's childhood was that both parents worked long hours and were not around much, therefore Oscar looks forward to being an involved dad through our child's development.
Jerylin grew up in a rural area in the Philippines where most memories are happy surrounded by family and the outdoors. Although there were difficult times when the family struggled financially, she is happy to see that everyone in the family lives a successful life in the Philippines today.
From Us to You
We welcome you with open hearts and we are honored and grateful you are considering us as parents for your child. We have been waiting to complete our family for a long time. We do not know what brought you to our lives, but we would like to believe that God has connected us.
We have always wanted kids and were waiting for the right time to start our family. When that time finally came, we found out we were unable to have children. We did not want to give up on our dream of being loving parents and felt God steering us to adoption. For the past few years we have been living overseas and adoption was not possible at the time. However, now that we are for back for good, we immediately started the process and we are looking forward to enjoying Honolulu, Hawaii, where we call home!
We are Jerylin and Oscar. We met in the Navy while living overseas in the Middle East. Jerylin was already there for a couple years, and shortly after Oscar's arrival, we met through mutual friends. Since we first met fourteen years ago, we have lived the a loving life full of experiences that have taken us all around the world and provided us with many blessings in the form of loving friends and relatives who support us and share our experiences. We have lived in Japan, Spain, and Bahrain and from there we enjoyed traveling to multiple countries, and continue to love experiencing different cultures through food and conversations anywhere we go.
Oscar is on active duty in the Navy, and is also a cyber/IT professor for two colleges. Jerylin takes care of our house, a decision made a few years ago in preparation for our adoption path, but her career background and degrees are in business and accounting, which is the foundation of our financial success. In our spare time, we love spending time enjoying Hawaii, the weather is summer-like all year round, so we go hiking, fishing, attending sports events and cooking together while we are at home.
We are excited to grow our family. We can't wait to have a little one walking around, playing with our dog, Archer, and making little messes around the house. We look forward to future family camping trips, fishing, and going to games together. We want our future child to be happy and healthy. We want him or her to be active and have interests in and out of school. We enjoy music and sports and we hope that our child finds an interest (music, sports, art, scouts) that he or she loves and enjoys doing. College is a goal which thankfully is already provided due to Oscar's military benefits, but it isn't necessary if she or he finds a job that they can make a career out of. We hope that you will be able to share in her or his successes and happy moments and be a comfort during the tough times that life brings.
If you choose to make us part of your destiny, we will be forever grateful, and we will always be connected. Our relationship with you will include letters and pictures will send to you, and we look forward to developing a beautiful relationship that will only benefit the child.
With appreciation and gratitude,
Oscar & Jerylin
