Luke & Mandy
The greatest gift that could ever be given to us is the gift of being able to have a family. We have dreamed of becoming parents for quite some time and are so excited to share our lives and love with a little one! We cannot thank you enough for viewing our profile and considering us to be the recipient of your great gift!
We love traveling and being active. We are excited to share our adventures as a new family of three!
We both enjoy cross-country skiing, running, biking and roller blading. Every year we take a family trip (with cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents) and ski the American Birkiebeiner. Some watch and some ski! Throughout the year we love to also go camping and hiking.
We usually take one overseas vacation per year. Some of those places have included Italy, Switzerland, France, Greece, Ireland, Scotland and most recently Spain. Our hope is to share and explore our travels (and the world) as a new family. We believe that travel is one of the greatest gifts and experiences you can share as a family. On our more recent trips we have noticed several families and thought a lot about what our trips would be like with a little one and are very excited to share new experiences as a family.
We live a very active and balanced lifestyle. We are avid cross-country skiers, runners, hikers, campers, and travelers. One thing that has made us strong as a couple is we have very similar interests as well as being open to each other's interests.
During a typical week we like to cook dinner together, go for walks, and work in our garden. We like to spend summer nights relaxing on the porch, watching Netflix, reading, catching up on house projects, or playing a game (usually cribbage or Phase 10). Wednesday nights are often spent with friends and family or being out for dinner. We love to have company and grill out, play bean bags and have a bonfire.
Weekends are important for work-life balance, and are typically spent with family, friends, or on an outdoor adventure. We live in a beautiful area near many parks with playgrounds, baseball diamonds, basketball courts and hiking trails. We are excited to share these experiences, make new memories and to continue being active with our little one!
Our Cultural Heritage
Cultural heritage is very important to both of us. As adoptive parents we will learn as much as we can about the child's culture, as well as who and where they come from. We believe integrating this will help the development of the child's growth as a person. We want them to feel confident about who they are and where they come from. We plan to openly discuss diversity, acceptance, compassion, understanding, and culture as well as find places, people and positive role models.
We plan to continue traveling and being active in the world, which will help cultivate awareness and understanding of diversity, different lifestyles, and various cultures. We are excited to learn about and help develop a strong sense of cultural confidence and understanding as a family. We will do everything we can to support our child with any questions that may arise about their cultural heritage.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a four-bedroom log home located on 10 acres of serine nature. There are beautiful large trees, flowers and green grass surrounding the home (perfect yard for playing as a child). We also have a swing set and slide, which we hope to be using soon. All of the rooms are decorated and we have already picked out the nursery! There are multiple large porches, one on the front of the house and a screened in porch on the back (where we spend lots of time). We absolutely love living here!
In the summer we enjoy growing a garden, as well as planting flowers and trees. It is not uncommon to see deer (with their babies), unique birds, rabbits, frogs and humming birds. In the winter we love to watch movies, make hot cocoa and cozy up to the wood burning fire place. Our ceilings are vaulted which allows us to have a nice tall Christmas tree every year!
On our property we also have a barn that we hope to one day fill with a goats or chickens. On our street there are four other houses, all about a quarter mile apart. Everyone is very nice and often see each other out walking and doing yard work.
Our home is located about one mile from the elementary school and a community park. We are also one mile from a really neat children's museum. We are about five miles from the library and the community pool.
Our Extended Families
We are very close to our families and can't wait to share the gift of adoption with them. Both sides of our families are supportive in our decision to adopt and our excited to meet their newest family member!
Mandy's family is very close and takes a family vacation every year between Christmas and New Year's. On their trip they enjoy sledding, skiing, laughing, cooking and playing games. They also take trips in the summer to beach! We can't wait to taking our new bundle of joy on trips with their cousins, aunts, uncles and grandma and grandpa. Grandma loves to decorate cookies, go to the park and read to her grandchildren. Grandpa enjoys teaching his grandchildren about science and playing songs for them on the piano. We visit often and everyone lives close by.
Luke's family is also close by, Grandma and Grandpa only 20 minutes away. We enjoy spending holidays with Luke's family and joining in on the annual bean bag toss tournament!
From Us to You
We are so grateful that you have taken the time to view our profile. We understand that considering adoption is not an easy decision and is one of the most altruistic things someone can do. Becoming parents has been a dream of ours for a longtime, but unfortunately we've not been able to make that happen due to infertility. However, there is nothing more exciting to us then raising a family through adoption. We are ready to share our lives and love with a child.
We've been married for five years and are best friends. We make each other laugh every day and enjoy spending time together. Our favorite holiday is definitely Christmas. We're those people who put our decorations and tree up immediately following Thanksgiving and leave it up til March because we love winter so much. Sharing our holiday traditions (such as the family holiday cookie bake-off, Christmas at grandma and grandpa's house, etc.) with a child will be so exciting for us.
We are excited for the baby to meet all their new cousins (Mandy's side: six, Luke's side: more than 10). Mandy is very close with her sister who has 3-year-old twin girls (Maleah and Mariah) and cannot wait for them to meet and play. We look forward to making new memories together as our family grows through adoption.
Our lives are ready, able, and willing to raise a child. Our jobs are very flexible. Luke works as a family physician, and although he's delivered thousands of babies over his career, he now works only day hours and has Friday's off. Mandy works at a university and plans to work part-time once the baby arrives. Our plan for child care is to have Luke's sister, Mandy's mom and others watch the baby on days when we're working.
We believe that one of the most important things for the child will be to know who and where they came from as they grow and develop. Creating a strong sense of self and knowing their history will be key in the child's development and self-confidence. As the child grows and is ready, we plan to be open and honest with them about the history and story of their adoption. We will also support them in the future if they choose to seek out and meet their birth parents or siblings (if applicable). Please know that we will do everything to make sure this child knows that they are loved by all who touched their lives—from their birth family to adoptive family and beyond—as well as the selfless sacrifice you made for them at the time of their birth. We are open to sharing letters, pictures, cards and emails with you as your child grows.
In closing, we cannot express our gratitude for considering us to raise and take care of your baby. We eagerly look forward to the day our dream comes true and how blessed we will be when we find out we have been chosen. There is no greater gift and no greater act of selfless kindness that could be given and we are deeply thankful to you.
