Heather & Chrystal
Thank you for considering us as potential parents for this child. There are so many different ways to make a family, and adoption is the path that has brought our families together. We have so much love to give and can't wait to be parents. We admire your bravery through this process, and we look forward to the journey ahead together.
Why We Chose Adoption
We knew early in our relationship that we wanted to be parents. As two women, we knew having a baby was not going to be simple for us, but we were committed and willing to try almost anything. Adoption was always one of the paths to parenthood that we considered, but Chrystal also wanted to experience being pregnant, so we tried that first. We tried for six years using sperm donors and fertility treatments. We succeeded three times...and had three losses. In 2017, we successfully got pregnant using in vitro fertilization (IVF) with an egg donor and donated sperm. Unfortunately, there were complications with the placenta and our daughter Samara was born three months early. She was beautiful and the tiniest human we had ever seen - only 1 pound and 1 ounce! She was a strong little fighter, but just born too early to survive. She lived for three weeks. These were the most wonderful and the most difficult three weeks of our lives. Losing Samara was very difficult, but we learned so much about being parents during her short life. We learned we will fight for our child no matter what, and we learned that love for a child is the greatest gift in the world. We are choosing adoption now because we have so much love to give a child. It is not in the cards for us to have biological children, and adoption will allow us to grow our family in another beautiful way.
Our Leisure Time
The four seasons in the Midwest give us opportunities to try all sorts of activities. We love to be outside as much as possible. In the summertime we enjoy swimming, canoeing, riding our bikes, exploring beautiful places in nature our just hanging out on our porch under the maple trees. Our city has many festivals and we love to check out new music, explore art and have picnics with friends and family.
During the winter, we will go ice skating and sledding and enjoy the snow - followed by hot chocolate of course!
Year-round we love to watch movies and have game nights with friends. Heather enjoys working with horses. Chrystal loves to roller skate and used to even play Roller Derby. Chrystal plays the guitar and we both love to sing. We can't wait to learn new songs with this child and hopefully have some fun dance parties. Most of all, we are looking forward to reading together from the very beginning.

Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a small a Midwestern city big enough to have diverse communities and cultural opportunities and small enough to have close-knit neighborhoods. There are many kid-centered events throughout the year, a wonderful children's museum, awesome public pools with toddler splash-pads, and many parks and lakes for outdoor adventures.
Our three-bedroom house is warm and bright and we love to fill it with art and music. We have a large family room downstairs for playtime and movie nights. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen because we love to cook, bake and explore new foods. Our neighborhood has an excellent elementary school and we have a park with a pond and a playground just down the street from our home. There are lots of diverse families on our street with kids of all ages. Our neighborhood association hosts several events a year such as an Easter egg hunt, a 4th of July celebration, a Halloween bonfire with costume contest and a kids' Thanksgiving Day parade.
We love our big fenced-in backyard with two large maple trees. One even has a tree swing! We also have a garden where we grow vegetables and flowers every year. We are excited to play catch and other sports in our yard and nearby playground when this child is old enough. We can't wait to teach this child how to garden and be connected to plants and animals.
Our Extended Families
Although spread across the country, we are very close with our families and love to spend time together whenever we can. We travel quite a bit to states like Washington, California, Oregon and Maine to visit. Heather's father lives in Oregon, and her extended family is mostly on the west coast. When we go visit them we love to explore tide-pools, swim in the ocean, hike in the forests with big trees, and spend time reminiscing and creating new memories.
We love to gather at Chrystal's mom's house for holidays and events. We live within three hours and try to get together about once a month with one of her brother's families. We FaceTime with our nieces and nephews regularly. For holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, we get together with Chrystal's three brothers and their families, and often extended aunts, uncles and cousins. We look forward to special traditions like the annual Easter egg hunt, birthday celebrations, and making special family candies at Christmas.
Everyone is excited to have a new little one join our family. This child will be surrounded by 9 cousins that love to play and explore with each other. One favorite cousin activity is having sleepovers and movie night at grandma's house. Our families love to play board games and card games like "Spoons," explore nature, and take trips to the zoo and children's museums.
From Us to You
Hello and thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We cannot even begin to imagine what this process is like for you. We do know that it takes a lot of strength and courage to make this decision, and we want to acknowledge and validate the process you are going through.
We are Heather and Chrystal, a loving couple for over ten years. We met in California through a mutual friend in 2008. When we started dating, we knew right away that we wanted to have children together. We held very similar communication styles and values and were interested in many of the same things in life. We wanted to share our love and values with a child and explore the world with them.
We moved to the Midwest in 2010 to be closer to Chrystal's family and got married the following year. Soon after we got married, we started trying to have a baby. In 2017, we successfully got pregnant again and Chrystal gave birth to our beautiful daughter Samara. Unfortunately, Samara came into the world three months early and only lived for three weeks. These were the most wonderful and the most difficult weeks of our lives. Losing Samara was incredibly hard but cemented for us that we are meant to be parents.
Our home is full of light and love with our black lab, Guthrie, and our two young cats, Frankie and Indie. Heather is a marriage and family therapist with a focus in Somatic work. Heather also does equine-assisted therapy and specializes in helping people that have experienced trauma. Heather has flexibility in her work week which allows her to maintain good self-care and ensure her ability to best support the people she works with. Chrystal works in educational leadership in higher education. She focuses on equity, diversity and inclusion in her work and is passionate about social change. She also worked as an environmental educator for many years and loves sharing her passion for nature with children. We both have flexible schedules and the ability to work from home, which will allow us to spend as much time as possible with the child.
Our large, supportive family is very important to us. We enjoy family gatherings for holidays, birthdays and important events with our nieces and nephews. We love supporting each of them as unique individuals and seeing who they are growing up to be. We love to travel and explore new places as a couple and do a lot of outdoor activities with friends and family. We enjoy community events and festivals and engaging our minds through reading and documentaries. For downtime we enjoy watching Netflix, playing music and just hanging out with friends.
The thought of growing our family is very exciting and we continue to hold the deep desire to raise a child. We look forward to being able to share our daily lives as well as fun trips and adventures. We look forward to sharing stories and reading together, taking them on their first train and plane rides, and teaching them about the many things we love. We love art and music and are excited to share this as we sing and play instruments together and get our hands dirty making art.
We are also excited to learn new activities with this child as we support them in following their dreams and passions. Most of all, we look forward to helping this child discover who they are as they grow and teaching them how to engage in the world as a kind, compassionate, and curious person.
It is important to us that this child always knows that they are loved and that you chose adoption with deep love. We will send letters and pictures to you as this child grows so that you will be able to share in their successes and joys and find comfort in seeing them thrive. We are open to exchanging emails, phone calls or other communication so that this child can also know who you are and be able to learn more as they grow up. Thank you again for considering us.
