Valerie & Kizzy
As parents, we believe love and support are the two best qualities you can share with a child and we would consider it nothing less than a blessing to share our love with your child and provide the most supportive family environment your child could be a part of. Thank you very much for considering us as potential parents for your child, we look forward to meeting you.
Adoption in Our Lives
We knew early on in our marriage that we wanted to have several kids, so we started trying to conceive through fertility treatments. It took us many tries and we finally was blessed with our son. Two years after having him we became pregnant and experienced yet another miscarriage. We tried once more with no success and after that we immediately knew that adoption would be the way to go for us to expand our family. We truly desire to share our love with another child and for our son to grow up with a sibling he can call his best friend.
Once we knew that adoption was our journey, we then started looking into the possibility of open adoption. After listening to several stories and having conversations with American Adoptions, our hopes for an open adoption is for you to be an integral part of your child's life. We want to ensure you continue to get updates on growth and development as he/she quickly moves through the infant/toddler years. We want you to know about the first day of school and award ceremonies. We would like you to see the Thanksgiving and Christmas play videos. Beyond letters and pictures from us, we would like for your child to know who you are. We believe that there will be times in which an in person visit will be great for all. We hope that we can get the opportunity to discuss with you your hopes for an open adoption and that we are the right family for your child.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
The qualities Kizzy respects and love about Valerie are a long list but here are a few. Valerie is very well educated and continues to learn new things on a daily basis. Valerie is a very good communicator and loves to talk unlike Kizzy, who more on the quiet side. Valerie is always able to see things with an open heart. Valerie is very trusting and trustworthy. Valerie values staying in and enjoying the things they have at home and not always having to be on the go. Valerie always bring out the best in Kizzy and cheers Kizzy on. Valerie truly respects Kizzy's family and their background. Valerie is such a hard-working person.
The qualities Valerie loves and admires about Kizzy is that Kizzy is a nurturer and cares about everybody. She will give you the shirt off her back or the last dollar in her purse. Kizzy is very artistic and can do almost anything when she puts her mind to it. Kizzy is also hard working and ensures that the family has what they need. She is the best co-parent I could ask for. She is the best cook I have ever had in my life. Kizzy is the glue that keeps our family together.
Our lifestyle is pretty laid back. During the week, we work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and our son attends daycare. In the evening we spend time with our three dogs and have dinner together. On the weekends we try to find activities to spend some quality time with our son. Since our extended families live out of town, we travel often to spend time with them and especially during the holidays. Kizzy is a member of a mom's group and Valerie is a member of a women veteran's organization. We both participate regularly in community service projects in our area to give back to the community and we plan to have our children participate as well when they are old enough to do so. Kizzy sews and does other crafts when she has free time. Valerie has played sports all her life and continues to do so whenever she gets a chance. We also like to spend time with our son in the backyard playing things like soccer, teeball, and he loves to race!
Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is full of excitement everyday with three dogs and an energetic 2-year-old running around pretending to be the latest Super Hero, hiding between the sofa pillows thrown about the floor in the family room or turning the downstairs open floor plan into a track to race Mommy! Not only is it fun, it is huge with plenty of room to expand our family. We have a big backyard with a garden where we grow fruits and vegetables in the spring, a swimming pool to enjoy those hot summer months, and enough room for a family game of tag or have a cornhole tournament while waiting on the barbecue to get done.
Our community enjoys decorating for Christmas and Halloween which brings everyone out for an evening of fun with the neighborhood kids. We have a spring neighborhood potluck gathering with bouncing houses and other activities for the children.
We have community parks that are a short drive away that we frequent to allow our son to let his energy out. We sometimes meet other families from our mom's group so our son can have others to play with. We have a waterpark that is only a 30-minute drive away that is opened during the summer along with other activities in our city available for families to enjoy like the botanical garden, an annual carnival, children's museums and indoor trampoline parks. Our city has a minor league baseball and hockey team as well.
Our Extended Families
We both have extended families that are supportive of our decision to expand our family through open adoption.
Kizzy's family is from Panama and their Hispanic background and traditions are a big part of their life. Whenever there is a gathering with Kizzy's family, it is usually a large gathering with lots of Spanish foods, Caribbean music like salsa, reggaeton and soca and dancing. Kizzy's mother and father are fluent in Spanish and speak it to their grandkids so that they can learn a second language. Kizzy understands and speaks Spanish as well. Outside of the holiday gatherings, Kizzy's family has a large family reunion every two years to ensure the family stays connected with each other.
Valerie's family is from the South. Gatherings with Valerie's family normally consist of southern-style dishes and watching their favorite sports teams play on TV in the family room. Valerie's family lives closer than Kizzy's family does, however they make it a point to visit with both families each year. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the major times spent with their extended families. We alternate between the two families each year and sometimes our families will come to our home to spend the holidays with us.
From Us to You
Hello! We're Valerie and Kizzy, and we're excited to introduce ourselves to you. You are in the mist of making a huge decision that will impact both you and your child's life forever, and we have an incredible amount of respect for you for considering adoption. We have experienced the joys and the tears involved in raising a family, and we looked into our hearts and found ourselves ready for the challenge of adding another member to our family to share this experience with. We're so eager to share our lives with another child and our experiences of the world around us. We'd like to tell you a little about who we are and what kind of parents we hope to be to your child.
We met over five years ago, and we've been inseparable ever since. We both love traveling and jump at every opportunity to explore new cities and countries, try new foods, and learn about other cultures. So far, we've traveled to Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Belize, and the Cayman Islands together, as well as all over the United States. We think travel is one of the best ways to truly get to know your place in the world, and we hope to fill our children early years with a broad exposure to the world around them. Our son is only 2-years-old and he has already traveled by plane multiple times and he has been on a weeklong cruise!
Valerie works as a contractor for the federal government and Kizzy is a caregiver for an in-home elderly care provider, and while we're proud of each other's endeavors, we place a strong value on work/life balance. Our jobs match up pretty well with our personalities: as a Systems Safety Engineer and Military Veteran, Valerie makes sure everything we do is safe and makes detailed preparations for everything, including our vacations, while as a caregiver, Kizzy likes to make sure we have snacks for long trips and sunscreen for the beach. Our careers in public service and our involvement in giving back to our community stem from a compassion for the caring for others, and we hope to instill the same in your child and help him or her find their own special way to improve the community and the world we call home. We value equality, respect for differences, understanding, and kindness, and while we're far from perfect, we will do our very best to model these values every day.
We are surrounded by loved ones, both a large family and a core group of close friends, who will provide additional support as we begin this journey. All of our loved ones are enthusiastic about our family plans and we feel strongly that we have a strong network that will provide a loving and nurturing environment to enable a child's growth and development. We offer a collection of family and friends that will love and accept your child with open arms and welcome him or her into our family and varied traditions. Our children will grow up with role models from many backgrounds, which we hope will instill in them confidence to be successful and the ability to love and respect people wherever the world takes them.
We have the most genuine respect for you and the choice you're contemplating. We want you to know that we're excited to share letters and pictures, emails, and if you would like, phone calls and perhaps a visit from time to time. Should you choose to start this journey with us, please know you will always hold a very special place in our hearts and in our home, and we will share that with our children at every opportunity.
