Seth & Lindsey
We are so excited to expand our family, and we can't wait to share our life and love with a child. We know you have a difficult decision to make, and we admire your courage and selflessness. Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and get to know us better.
We both love to travel, and we have made that a priority together. We believe seeing the world and meeting people from different backgrounds is important for cultivating empathy, kindness, and an open mind. It is very important to us to continue our travels with a child, and we are excited to plan some family vacations!
Our first big trip together was a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up, which we both agree is one of the coolest things we've ever done. We spent our honeymoon in Mexico where we explored Mayan ruins and snorkeled through underground caves. Last year, we spent a week in Alaska hiking, fishing, and visiting family, and earlier this year we went skiing in Park City, Utah with friends.
One spot we return to over and over is the area around Asheville, North Carolina. Lindsey grew up spending her summers at a camp nearby (where we were married), and Seth has loved it since our first trip there together. Every few months we pack up the dogs for the weekend, find a cabin to rent, and spend time hiking in the mountains and enjoying great food and craft beer in Asheville's downtown. It is our dream to own a house there someday, and in the meantime, we are excited to introduce a little one to the beauty and adventure of the mountains.
Our Leisure Time
We both value our careers and work hard, but we also prioritize time together after work and on the weekends. We enjoy being active and often include our two dogs in our activities like hiking or taking our boat out on the river. We like to ride our bikes around the neighborhood, grill out on our patio, work on projects around the house, or just hang out on the couch watching Netflix.
Seth is an outdoorsman who loves camping and fishing, and he is happiest on the water. He is very handy and likes having a project to work on. He has a workshop in our garage and built our patio, pergola, and dining room table. He enjoys home brewing, grilling, and testing new recipes. Seth enjoys golf and plays as often as he can when the weather is nice.
Lindsey is a runner and enjoys training for races. She loves the mountains and likes going hiking whenever she can. She also loves to read and always has a stack of library books on her bedside table. She loves DIY projects and keeps Seth's "honey-do" list full. She is also a board member for our local hospital's cancer center.
We have two dogs - Teal, a chocolate lab; and Penny, a rescue mutt. Seth brought Teal to the relationship, and Lindsey brought Penny, and one of the things we first bonded over was how much we each loved our dog. Teal is a typical goofy lab who loves Seth, food, and her ball (in that order). Penny is our shy, gentle girl who loves to be in the water.
Last Thanksgiving, we came home to find a tiny, hungry kitten on our back porch. Neither of us could bear to let her spend the night in the cold, so we brought her inside, and she's been with us ever since. We eventually stopped calling her Cat and settled on naming her Rosie.
We both love animals and grew up with pets in our households, so that is an experience we really want to pass on to a child as well. We can't wait to introduce our fur children to a new brother or sister!
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a historic downtown neighborhood. Our house is a 1950s brick bungalow with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and a fenced yard. Seth recently built a patio with a pergola, and we enjoy being out there whenever the weather is nice (which, in the south, is often!). We love our house because it is close to everything - shopping, restaurants, parks, and schools. We are also about one mile from the river, and we often take our boat out with our dogs in the evenings. There are multiple parks within a few blocks with playgrounds, sports fields, a splash pad, and a skate park. One of our favorite things about our city is that there is always something to do from watching college sports to concerts, museums, an award-winning zoo, and many local festivals. Our favorite is our neighborhood Crawfish Festival every May!
Our neighborhood is also home to lots of young families, and there are several families with kids on our block. One reason we chose this neighborhood is for the highly rated schools, including a great elementary school within walking distance. A child in our home will have lots of friends nearby, a variety of activities easily accessible in the neighborhood, and we are excited to include him or her in our life here.
Our Extended Families
Family is very important to both of us, and both of our families are within a few hours drive from our home - siblings, cousins, parents, and grandparents. We also have a loving and supportive group of friends we think of as family. Many of them also have children, and we can't wait to introduce another little one to the mix.
We are each the oldest child, and we have great relationships with our younger siblings. Seth's sister and her husband live less than two hours away, and we see them regularly to hang out or travel together. Seth also has a stepbrother who lives a few hours away with his wife and two of our nephews, who we see a few times a year. Lindsey's brother, sister-in-law, and nephew recently moved back home from Alaska, and we are ecstatic to have them closer to us. We are both very close to our parents, and they have been so supportive of our adoption plans. We can't wait to bring our child to family celebrations at Seth's grandparents' house at the river and for Lindsey's dad to teach him or her how to water ski at the lake. This child will also have close relationships with his or her cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Everyone is very excited to welcome a new member to our family!
From Us to You
Hello! Our names are Seth and Lindsey, and we want to thank you so much for taking the time to read our profile to get to know us better. If you choose to move forward on this adoption path with us, we want you to know we will be there to love and support you, now and in the years to come, in whatever ways you feel comfortable with. We know the choice you are making is not an easy one, and we appreciate and admire your courage, thoughtfulness, and maturity in considering adoption.
We have been together for over four years and married for two. We fell hard for each other on our first date and have been inseparable ever since. Throughout those four years, we have conquered challenges that people in marriages of twenty or thirty years have not had to deal with. About a year into our relationship, Lindsey was diagnosed with cancer. At the time, we were dating long distance, but Seth still made it to every doctor's appointment and supported Lindsey in every possible way. Although Lindsey is perfectly healthy now, because of the treatments she received, we have always known that conceiving naturally would be difficult for us, and we have been discussing adoption for several years.
We are so thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents and welcoming a child into our life. We are looking forward to so many things, from the big stuff like experiencing his or her first words, first steps, and graduations; to the everyday things like sitting down for dinner as a family, coaching his or her sports teams, and helping with homework. We believe a family is made of more than just biology, and we will love and support this child in every way we can. We have a happy and comfortable relationship, and we love our life together. We are excited to take on the joys and challenges of raising a child together, and we cannot wait to watch him or her learn and grow and to explore new places and have new experiences as a family. We also want you to know that you will be included in this child's future. We will send letters and pictures, and we hope to have a lasting relationship with you so this child will always know he or she has the love and support of two families.
Our extended family and friends are also incredibly supportive of our decision to pursue adoption, and they are excited to welcome a new member to our family. We are both close with our parents and siblings, and the value and importance of family is something we will pass on to a child. We also hope to instill a love of learning and curiosity about the world, a determination to succeed and fulfill his or her dreams, and a kind heart that treats others with respect. Our family and our home will be a safe harbor he or she can always return to, as long as we are on this earth.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us! We wish you strength and peace as you as you walk this path.
