Our Lifestyle

Enjoying the View With Mr. Darcy

We have a great life filled with supportive family and friends who mean more to us than they will ever know. During the week, Kevin may have one of his monthly meetings for the various boards he sits on or organizations he is involved with, such as the EMS or Wildlife Management Boards, the Elks Lodge, or the Area Go Texan scholarship committee. Haley's school district has several sports, fine arts, or family/community events weekly. Every day though, we enjoy spending time talking with Haley's parents when we pick up our dog, Mr. Darcy.

Most evenings, we catch up on our day's events while cooking and eating dinner. At some point, we both spend quality time playing with Mr. Darcy. Kevin typically goes to the ranch to check on the cattle and uses the time to relax in nature and reflect on the day. Haley enjoys getting lost in a good TV series, movie, or book.

We typically have at least one various social, benefit, or organization event on the weekend with family and friends, even if it's just a fish fry for someone's birthday at the lake. Sunday meals with family after church are a highlight of the week with plenty of laughter and reminiscing about days past while creating precious memories moving forward. Hopefully, someday soon, we'll have one more at the table!

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

All Smiles

Haley About Kevin: Have you ever met someone who makes you feel special just the way you are? They can make you believe everything is OK no matter the situation, and genuinely care about you and others. When they say they are going to do something, they stay true to their word and are the first to show up and the last to leave whenever help is needed. Talking with them is as natural as breathing except for when they make you laugh so hard your sides hurt. Still, when you speak, they listen with an open mind and hear the whispers of your heart as well as the words your lips utter. This person continually supports and loves you unconditionally. Well, I've met him, and I'm blessed to call him my husband, Kevin!

Kevin About Haley: Haley is the most genuine and caring person I have ever met! She considers everyone's feelings in any situations that arise. She can listen to and offer solutions to a plethora of issues because of her compassion and genuine love she has for every person. Haley has a work ethic second to none. She pours her heart and soul into all projects and goes the extra mile to ensure no stone is left unturned. Haley can fit into all genres because she is a people person that has a heart of gold and a passion for making everyone feel comfortable and the world a better place!

Cultural Diversity

A person's culture is like a lens in which they view, understand, and experience the world. Blended families, multiracial, and adopted children each have their own culture or lens. However, one of our favorite childhood toys, a kaleidoscope, only works by looking through multiple lenses. You look at the light through a tunnel with multiple lenses and colorful beads at the end that makes spectacular patterns as you turn the end of the tube. The combining of each cultural lens and shining light on the beautiful beads or pieces from each culture are what create the most magnificent images as unique as each snowflake.

We can learn and experience different cultures together as a family, because we live just outside two of the most diverse cities in Texas that offer many events, speakers, and celebrations. Both cities have large universities that foster cultural education, awareness, and diversity, which is another excellent resource. Also, we believe positive role models from each culture are essential in helping a child develop a healthy self-image. Just as we each have our own stories and cultural lenses, we will honor and support your child in exploring their cultures and creating their amazingly unique kaleidoscope!

Our House and Neighborhood

There's No Place Like Home

Our house has four bedrooms, two baths, and a playroom ready to be filled with laughter and toys. We live on nine acres next to Haley's parents, and the family ranch is just a quarter-mile down the road. A quarter-mile in the other direction is a state park with over 6 miles of hiking trails to explore, playgrounds to bring out the kid in all of us, and a lake for water activities. This area is so safe people still leave keys in their cars.

While we live in the peaceful countryside and enjoy the perks of small-town hospitality and safety, we are also within an hour of two of the largest and most culturally diverse cities in Texas, as well as several smaller cities. So, we could also provide a child with big-city experiences, opportunities, and resources. We truly have the best of both worlds to support a child in discovering and developing their interests and talents!

We love our home town, enjoy living life at a slower pace, spending quality time with our family and friends, and the support of a close-knit community. Kid-friendly events are part of the appeal, such as family movie nights under the stars, summer concerts with dancing in the streets, county fair cakewalks, and Winter Fest activities that include a nighttime Christmas parade. You can see the look of awe reflected on the children's faces from thousands of lights on Santa's sleigh as he rides by wishing a Merry Christmas to all!

Our Extended Families

Haley's Family

Our families mean the world to us and have made us who we are today. We are very fortunate they all live close and will be active in a child's life. Heaven gained another angel a few years back with the passing of Kevin's father, but our parents either would have or have been married for over 50 years. Their love, dedication, and self-sacrifice has laid the foundation for us as potential parents and taught us that family is everything!

Kevin's Family

We can't imagine our lives without our siblings or their love and support. Kevin considers his brother as his best friend and would do anything for him. Haley has two older sisters and an older brother that she wouldn't trade for the world. Our brothers live around the corner, and Haley's sisters live an hour away, but all are looking forward to spoiling a new niece or nephew!

Altogether, we have six amazing nieces and nephews, and one great-niece. We are so proud of them all, whether it is for graduating from R.N. school, winning rodeos or golf tournaments, or performing in dance recitals. We adore each one of them and know they will love sharing their passions with a new cousin. Our families are supportive of our decision to adopt and are anxiously waiting to meet the newest member!

From Us to You

Thank you! Thank you for being open to adoption, for reading our profile, and for considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We can't say thank you enough because, without adoption, our dreams of becoming parents would never come true. Throughout our journey, we keep thinking back to times when we felt lost or hopeless and realize that God's plan for us is even better than we could have ever imagined, and we know the same is true for you!

Life is about balance, and we are blessed to have careers we both love and are ideal for parenthood. Kevin is a regional safety manager for a petroleum transportation company and has flexibility in his hours when needed. He is responsible for training and managing the employees' safety certifications as well as ensuring the company, state, and federal safety procedures are followed. He enjoys being in the field working with the drivers and is well respected by all.

Haley is currently the Social Emotional Support Specialist for pre-K through 12th grade students for a local school district. She uses her experience as both a school counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to help children with a range of challenges associated with attention, mood dysregulation, trauma, grief, poverty, and family dynamics. Her knowledge, experience, and ability to connect with kids will make her an amazing mom. With Haley working for the school district, she will share the same holidays with the students, which will allow for plenty of time to make special memories with a child. Haley says that counseling and teaching kids coping skills but, more importantly, offering hope is life-changing for both the kids and herself. She is honored to work every day with amazing kids and co-workers!

We can't wait to share our lives with a child, and our families are just as excited! We look forward to passing on family traditions to the next generation, such as our love of the family ranch. The peaceful feeling of being in nature, the child-like joy of watching calves frolic in the fields, the thrill of catching a fish in the river, the excitement of finding arrowheads in the woods, or picking fresh pecans and berries to make homemade pies using grandma's recipes are all things we love about the ranch. Hopefully, one day, a child will be able to tell us about their favorite family tradition!

As for talking with a child about adoption, we will always research the best ways to discuss this with them and keep in mind different questions will come up as they mature and grow older. We will start early and make sure they know they are loved not only by us but first by you, their birth mother. Children's books are a great tool to help explain adoption. Families are created differently and don't all look the same, but love is universal. Some family members share the same blood, but other families are created by choice. Moms and Dads don't look alike or share the same blood, but they are a family that is created by choice and loving one another, just like adoption is a family that is created by choice and loving one another. Your courageous and selfless love would create our family, and we would be forever grateful!

We want you to know that if you choose us as adoptive parents, we will always honor you as their birth mother. Adoption brings families together even if it's as simple as loving one child more than ourselves. We will respect your comfort level for the amount of openness in the adoption plan. We are open to exchanging letters, pictures, emails, phone calls, and possibly future visits. We want to reassure you that we will love your child unconditionally, support their social, emotional, academic, and spiritual growth, and do everything we can to help them reach their goals and chase their dreams!

We already admire and respect you for considering adoption and will keep you and your child in our thoughts and prayers as you journey forward!
