Peter & Erin
Thank you so much for viewing our profile. We are truly honored that you might consider us to become the adoptive parents of your child. We are incredibly excited to pursue adoption and have long wanted to be parents. We hope that you will be able to gain a glimpse into our lives and see the love we have for each other and the love we will share with a child.
Our Leisure Time
We both enjoy and value the importance of exercise. Erin loves sunrise yoga class at 6am because it gives her energy for the day ahead. Peter likes to lift weights, swim, and stretch at the gym. Saturday is our day to spend time together. We typically go out to lunch and then find an event or festival happening in our city, or take long walks and explore other fun neighborhoods.
In his leisure time, Peter enjoys playing and listening to music. His favorite is improvising on the piano in our living room, which doubles as a music room. Peter also enjoys listening to live music and enjoying cuisine at the many festivals held in our city and our region. Erin is an avid gardener and loves growing flowers and vegetables from seed. In the springtime, you will find her covered in dirt in the backyard. She likes growing tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, lettuce, eggplant, and bell peppers. She also loves wildflowers and even carried a bouquet of them at her wedding. Erin can't wait to have a little helper in her garden.
Our Family Traditions
One of our most cherished traditions is the visits to Peter's mother's farm in Virginia. We visit "the farm" every few months to experience each season every year. There are hundreds of acres to explore (often on our John Deere gator), including trails, fields, streams, and a large pool for the summertime. It is such a blessing to be able to spend time in nature and see all of grandma's animals - horses, goats, sheep, cows, and pigs! Best of all, the farm is a great spacious place to visit with family, especially Peter's six brothers and sisters who live nearby with their many children. We have so much fun playing sports and games, exploring nature, playing music, and enjoying great meals together as a family.
Another one of our cherished traditions is Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is always a family affair for us every year. Our nieces, nephews, and godsons love to celebrate Mardi Gras out at the parades, and often atop the Mardi Gras ladders. Mardi Gras is such a festive, happy time of year for our family and friends and there is so much to enjoy: parades, floats, music, beads, king cakes, costumes, family fun…we could go on and on.
Our Dog, Sasha
Our wonderful dog Sasha brings such joy to our lives. Sasha is a Katrina rescue dog, found long ago wandering a Navy base after the storm. She is 14 years old, so she pretty much gets whatever she wants these days (i.e., lots of TREATS). She is a very sweet, content, and mellow dog with big, bat-like ears that she loves to have scratched and rubbed. We can always tell how she is feeling by the way she holds her ears.
Sasha likes to be wherever we are, so she follows us around from room to room. We treasure the click-clack sound of her little feet as she trails behind us. Sasha has a funny habit that makes the dancer in Erin laugh: every morning, she makes a single walk in a circle, to the right, before she lets you clip on her leash. Erin, of course, calls this her "pirouette." She also likes to sit with her front legs crossed like a lady. It's a lifelong habit that matches her genteel personality. Sasha adds humor, fun, and constant companionship to our lives, and we delight in every day spent with her.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a safe, family-oriented neighborhood in the heart of a fun, festive city in Louisiana. Our city is rich in history, culture, and old beauty. It is especially known for its food, music, and lively celebrations. We love it here!
Our home is a spacious, two-story house with four bedrooms, a balcony, lots of natural light, and a huge kitchen where Erin likes to cook and work on choreography. You can often find Peter in our living room, improvising on our grand piano. Our backyard is a large courtyard with a fountain, flower and vegetable beds, and large tropical plants.
Our neighborhood is a terrific place to raise a child. We have two of the top schools in our state, and we are walking distance to a famous zoo, two parks with playgrounds, a library, and a community center with a pool. Across the street from us lives a family with four young kids, and the school where Erin teaches dance is only two blocks away.
Our Extended Families
We are both very blessed to come from strong, close knit families. Peter has four brothers and two sisters, who were born within nine years, so they all had such a fun and amazing time growing up together. Today they are a family of doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, and artists. They remain extremely close to this day. They love to visit each other, especially at their mother's beautiful farm. You can catch us in grandma’s pool in the summer, with a huge turkey at Thanksgiving in the fall, together at Mardi Gras in the winter, or exploring the farm in the spring.
Erin grew up in a smaller family of four. They shared one bathroom until the time she left for college. Erin and her older brother were encouraged to be unique and follow their dreams. From the age of five, Erin knew she wanted to be a dancer, and her parents supported her every step of the way. Erin cherishes childhood memories of family summers in Mexico with her archaeologist father, little league softball, her grandmother's farm, and epic family trips all over the country. Her family is still central to life - her parents live only five minutes away!
Altogether, we have six nieces and nephews, who are all incredibly excited about adding another cousin through adoption. We love to get together and play games and sports, take trips, explore farm life, play at the beach, celebrate birthdays and holidays, and just have fun!
From Us to You
We cannot imagine the difficult decisions or sacrifices you are making. You are brave and selfless, and we admire your strength and integrity. We hope that we can give you some insight into who we are and how we got here. We are so honored that you are taking a moment to get to know us.
We have been married for seven years and together for twelve. We met through a mutual group of friends who played softball together. We ran into each other one day, the sparks just flew, and the rest is history. We were then, and still are now, opposites who attracted. Erin is from the South, and she is soft, bubbly, and warm. Peter is from the Northeast, and he is confident, strong, and reserved. Erin teaches dance, and Peter is an attorney. Peter likes historical documentaries, and Erin likes Top Chef. We think you get the idea.
But it is our differences that make the magic in our relationship! We are yin and yang - we balance and complement each other. We are always challenging each other to see things differently. We have learned how to be flexible, to accommodate, and to compromise. Our differences keep our relationship dynamic, exciting, and unpredictable! Our differences help us cope with hardship, too - especially processing the grief we have experienced through our long battle with infertility. We have such a strong desire to have children and are so hopeful that our dream of having a family will be realized through the incredible gift of adoption.
We are so ready to be parents. We both came from loving, supportive families and had wonderful childhoods filled with opportunity. Peter studied Latin and Greek, took piano lessons, and played college football. Erin was a serious, young dancer who began ballet at age 5 and eventually made it into a career. We want to provide our child with opportunities and experiences that our parents gave to us. We have so much life and love to give!
We believe that having a stable, loving family is the foundation for a happy and successful life. Our families are our touchstones - we go to them to recharge our batteries and come back to our most honest selves. They are the people who know us and love us the most, and their love is steadfast and unconditional. Families give us a sense of strength, confidence, and security so that we can be ambitious and tackle life head-on. They are also a safety net to catch us if we fall. We are ready and able to be that touchstone, safety net, and source of unconditional love for a child.
We will always be open and honest with your child about their adoption, and emphasize that you as the birth mother, made an important and courageous decision out of love. We recognize that you will always be an important part of your child’s life, and we want to be able to share your story and your family history, because we believe it is very important for a child to understand where they came from. We would be excited to continue to build a connection in the years to come - staying in touch and sharing photos and updates via phone or email and the ability to meet again in person some day if you would like. You would be giving us the greatest gift imaginable, so we will always respect and honor your wishes.
Thank you again so much for viewing our profile. We are honored that you have taken the time to read about us and the love we can offer your child. We truly wish you the very best.
With much love and respect,
Peter & Erin
