Brandon & Carson

We just can't believe that a lifetime of wanting and wishing to adopt has finally led us right where we're supposed to be! Our profile is live, our hearts are open and you're here too! Knowing that you're reading our story and considering our promises is so very unreal. There is so much to learn about, and from, each other and today is the very first step. That said, today will certainly be a great day.

Our Lifestyle

We are a fun-loving couple who really enjoys spending time together. We LOVE to laugh, like really love it. Both of us are pretty witty and we're constantly out-punning one another throughout the day. A fly on the wall, would recoil at the amount of "dad jokes" that get thrown around, but dad jokes are the BEST!

We also like to name things you're not supposed to name around the house. For instance, our pool's name is "Pool Newman." Some of our lighting is automated so we can control it with our phones, so, naturally, we renamed those lights to ridiculous things like, "table wamps" and "lampy-wampy." This is particularly hilarious when we're exhausted and just need to turn off lights to go to sleep...then all you here is 6'4" Brandon telling Siri to, "turn off the table-wamps." Carson waits for this moment every night — never gets old!

This just a little insight into the silliness that makes us, "us." We work so hard every day so that we can come home, play with the dogs, cook a little dinner together, sit with our feet in the pool and talk. It's in these little, routine moments that we find the most laughter and we think that's a pretty special part of our life.

Cultural Diversity

After Watching the Service at an Old Church in Mexico

Choosing to be open to adopting outside of our race was a big, important decision that we do not take lightly. When asked, our initial, quick answer was. "Yes, of course we will. Love is love and we have more than enough to give to any child we are blessed call ours." With that, though, we feel comes a responsibility to educate and expose our child to the different cultural backgrounds that exist within our family and our community. It will be important for us to make sure that our child understands and has the opportunity to freely explore where he or she came from and that we educate ourselves on their cultural background as well as our own. It will be our job to see to it that our child understands that, even though we come from different cultures, and even though may look different, we are bound together something much bigger than these differences.

We feel that learning about other cultures and immersing yourself in all of the beautiful, different people and experiences in this world is the foundation of a fantastic, diverse and infinitely interesting life.

A Promise: We Are Not Just Us

I have dreamed of you since childhood, I have imagined who you are;
I have thought about your smile and wished you like a star.

In the dreams that I have dreamed, I imagined you were mine;
I dreamed of how you'd laugh and how you'd be so kind.

In all my wildest dreams, you belonged to me;
And though it may be odd, I'll teach you how to see,

That through all of the planning, the missteps and the fails;
Through all of the the stories, the memories, the tales;

This life we've created, the one built by you and me,
Is full of surprises...twists and turns, you see?

I love you because you're you and you are a gift;
I love you because you're mine, in spite of life's shift.

You remind me of someone, someone there from the start;
You remind me of her, she is a work of art.

She knew you before me, her strength is how we met;
She knew you before me, her love is our duet.

Her love is the power, the magnet that binds;
Her spirit is the force that connects our souls and minds.

She's in your heart forever and my promise to you is this:
A day will never pass that you forget the magic of her kiss;

For she drew us together, her greatest gift was trust;
My promise to you is this: we are not just us.

Our Extended Families

Brandon's Family

We love spending time with our families whenever we can. We come from different backgrounds, including different areas of the country, so, while much of Brandon's immediate family lives nearby, we also have lots of family in Ohio, Mississippi and Florida. Both sets of our families love card games, so at most gatherings, we'll get a little competitive. Sometimes we play for dollars, which just makes it even more fun!

Carson's Family

We also have lots of friends with small children. Since we moved to a house with a pool, we've made sure that all of our friends and family know that they are always welcome to come and hang out. We'll open the back doors, put on some music and just relax. It has been so fun teaching friends' kids how to swim and watching them become more and more comfortable in the water.

Carson's parents live in Florida, so it's a little more difficult to go see them, but we ALWAYS make sure that we take the time to travel to visit them and Carson's brother's family. Carson's parents live near the beach so we spend as much time as we can on the beach jumping the waves and playing in the sand. We spent Christmas in Florida this year and set up a bonfire on the beach for everyone - we made s'mores and drank hot chocolate with the waves crashing next to us. It was such a special moment and we can't wait to introduce a child to these experiences.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our house is a one-story ranch-style home. There are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a dining room, an office and a couple of living areas off of the kitchen. By far, our favorite room is our den. It's light and bright and right off of our FAVORITE thing about our house, the pool! Carson grew up participating on a swim team, so it's a dream to be able to head to the backyard for a dip. She used to teach swim lessons and can't wait to pass on her love of water to a child!

Relaxing in Our Den

Our neighborhood is FULL of schools, both public and private, which is part of the reason we were drawn to this house. There are always kids of all ages playing nearby, so the sounds of laughter and play are always around us. The closest school to us has a playground and several large fields to run in. We often take the dogs to the fields and let them run around while we play frisbee. If it's a pretty day, there is a also an ice cream truck that travels the neighborhood - it so exciting when you hear the music coming up the street and and you start to see kids running. Because we live in such a safe area with so many schools, there are TONS of children in the neighborhood. We are looking so forward to joining the parenting community here and introducing a child to all of his or her new friends!

From Us to You

Dear Friend,

Every morning we think of you. We listen to each day's whispers and hints, looking for little signs. Every evening we pray that we are good enough, strong enough, hard-working enough ... just enough, for our child to find us. We spend countless hours discussing trips we'll take and how we'll teach our child by showing him or her the world and not just through books and television. We talk about how our child will know how important music is for the soul and look forward to listening to their music with the same interest and curiosity that we hope he or she will have for our music. We talk about who our child will be, what our child will be and how we will support them with every ounce of ourselves. We reminisce on our own childhoods, vowing to do some things differently and vowing to repeat the memories we love best with the people who made them for us.

We have been married for six years and together for ten. We've had a wonderful relationship and have been side by side since the night we met. Our life has been full of love, laughs, music and memories. We've worked together for five years, learning each other's strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, though, we have learned that we're better together ... in everything. For this, we thank God every day that we found each other.

We remind each other to be grateful for what we have and for each other, because life is so good. We have worked so hard and have been blessed in so many ways. The piece missing from those blessings is only the family we hope to build. However hard it has been, however heartbreaking our journey, we know we are not alone in the heartbreak. You're here too. Your heartbreak is different from ours, but it's the same in so many ways. If you're reading this and feel connected, then we pray that you will consider us as you make your decision. We pray that you will consider giving us this most meaningful gift and help to define "family" for all of us as we walk forward together.

We know that we may never meet and you may not choose us ... and that's okay. Just know this: You are loved. You are respected. You are not alone. Thank you for being exactly who you are, for doing exactly what you're doing, for loving your child fiercely and for trusting this process enough to have come this far. No matter where you go from here, you are a good and brave person, and you are forever a mother in your heart.

Everything that happens now will happen just as it should. Please trust us that we are deeply invested in this process and are here to make sure that you are as confident in your decision as we are. And that you are as confident in us as we are in you. If the pictures and letters we promise to send aren't enough to give you that confidence, then we leave it to you to tell us what will. With all of our hearts we want to make your decision as easy as it can possibly be. Please trust that. Please trust us. Please know that this gift will be the greatest of our lives and the sacrifice you are making in giving that gift is breathtaking. You are simply amazing.

All of our love,

Brandon & Carson

Memory with a Child
One summer my niece and nephew each stayed with us separately for several weeks. They live in Houston and this was a great way to really get to know them and show them our lives.
Volunteering with a local elementary school during their Christmas break. We took the kids to see The Polar Express and at the end, the little girl sitting next to me grabbed my hand and said into my ear, "I believe." I just about melted.
Memory with Spouse
Definitely getting married in Bora Bora. We talk about it about once a month. It was awe-inspiring and such a great time.
One long weekend at the beach, after a particularly hard week at work, Brandon and went and sat in some hammocks. We swung and talked and looked at the stars. It was a simple night, but I fell in love with him all over again and I'll always love hammocks
