Chad & Arleen
Hi, we're Arleen and Chad. We appreciate you taking a moment to get to know us a little better. We are looking forward to growing our family through adoption for a second time. Our daughter, Izzy, is excited to have a little brother or sister. We would like to thank you for considering us to be your child's adoptive parents.
Our Adoption Story
Adoption has been a part of our relationship vocabulary from the beginning because Arleen was in foster care for several months as a preteen. That experience impacted her life in such a positive way that when we found out we couldn't have biological children, our hearts quickly turned to adoption. Our first adoption led us to Mshinda, Izzy's birth mom, who has been a part of our extended family ever since. So much so that Izzy's birth sister came to live with us for a few years while her mom completed nursing school. Izzy speaks to both Mshinda and her birth sister often. It has been a very rewarding experience to have them in our lives.
Through Izzy's adoption, we have also seen our relationship grow stronger being able to see how much love each other has for our daughter. We very much look forward to opening our homes to the next members of our family.
Our Leisure Time
We just moved to Tennessee so we are getting to know the different areas and everything they have to offer. Our family enjoys visiting the many malls and all the different attractions in and around each one. There is usually a fair or an art or farmers' market to walk around. There are a few movie theaters we like to jump around to based on what popcorn we're in the mood for. One of the malls even has a large arcade where we enjoy racking up tickets to win some of the big prizes.
Chad and Izzy like to take some father daughter time and go to the driving range and hit some golf balls. Arleen and Izzy enjoy girls’ day going to the local do-it-yourself art and pottery stores to make cute little pieces for our house.
There is also a state park close to our home with a lake we enjoy visiting for picnics and taking hikes along its many trails. Izzy enjoys adding a few special rocks to her collection each time we go. We are looking forward to venturing out to the nearby mountains and other attractions Tennessee has to explore.
Chad has a great calmness about him. Whether it's a high stress work project or an important family decision that has to be made, he does not rush and puts great thought and effort into the final outcome. He also has a keen ability to keep us on track financially, so we can budget and make sure we get to do fun things as a family.
Arleen is the epitome of selfless. Her natural 'care for others' attitude comes with ease and she does not hesitate to give up something for herself if others are in need. Arleen is also not shy to speak her mind and feels very free to express her feelings on any subject without a second thought.
Izzy is quite the care free spirit. She makes friends with ease and, like Arleen, she is known to stand up for others when the situation arises. As a family, we balance each other out really well, and we are looking forward to adding another member to the family with their own strengths to bring to the table.
Our Extended Families
Chad was born in North Carolina and grew up in Georgia before moving out to California right before starting middle school. He has been blessed with a very close knit family who talk on the phone almost daily. Gammy and PopPop love to spoil their granddaughter. Chad is currently helping his parents and younger brother house hunt for their move to join us out in Tennessee.
Arleen was born and raised in Southern California to a single Latina mom who did her best with what she had. She enjoys a close relationship with her younger sister and niece. Izzy loves her weekly Face Time with Auntie Kat and her cousin. We enjoy making Puerto Rican food and showing them around town when they come to visit. Both our families are so excited for us to adopt again and add another grandchild to the mix. He or she will surely be adored by all!
We have also shared the news of our adoption journey with Izzy's birth mom and birth sister who we speak to often. They are so happy for us and look forward to meeting our new addition to the family.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is filled with music and laughter. One of the places we share that the most is Izzy’s playroom. We also spend a lot of time in the kitchen together cooking foods of all cultures. However, the spot that gets the most attention is our home library filled with all kinds of books, but mainly children’s books.
We live in a new neighborhood that is still growing. We have met a lot of the families and there are many kids of all ages. A community park, pool and even a splash pad will be built in the coming months where the neighborhood kids can play. Izzy's school is a short drive up the street, which is wonderful!
Our area is surrounded by lush trees and we have two lakes nearby that we enjoy visiting on the weekends. There are tons of malls, restaurants and entertainment within a few miles where we enjoy spending the day. We also love being close to so many venues where you can grab a good dinner with some live music. It is a wonderful place for our children to grow up.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We admire and respect this difficult decision you are considering to find parents for your baby. We would like to offer ourselves as a loving family to you and your child.
We have been married for 14 years, but have been together the last 20 years from when we were teenagers. We have a very strong relationship and have been there to support each other along the way. Our family grew back in 2008 when we adopted our first child, Izzy.
We have continued to have communication with her birth mom and birth sister through pictures and phone calls. Izzy's birth sister even came to live with us for a few years, and she has been able to speak with her birth grandmother from Uganda a few times. We would be open to similar communication with you, or any other type of communication you are comfortable with. We have found it very valuable for our family and Izzy's birth family to have this connection over the years.
Mshinda, Izzy's birth mother, has found this connection such a positive experience, she wanted to share her thoughts with you. This is what she wrote:
Hello, my name is Mshinda; I am the biological mother of Izabella and a friend to her mom and dad. We have known each other for ten years now. It has been and still is a great experience having such wonderful people in my life. I am writing this letter to you because I found out that Chad and Arleen are planning on adding a new member to their family, and I wanted to share some of the wonderful experiences I have had since they adopted Izabella.
To me, words cannot explain how much I am so proud of both parents! I had many reasons not to let go of my baby during my pregnancy, I also had strong reasons why I decided to choose them out of many parents to be the perfect couple that will love Izzy (Izabella). The story is long so I will make it short by saying that they have been wonderful parents and I have no regrets in choosing them to raise my baby! I speak to them as much as I can and they also tell Izabella good things about me. I have so much to say about this great couple, but I cannot say it all in one letter or it will sound like I am bragging, but the most important thing is that all that I wished for Izzy has all came to pass and I thank God for bringing them in our lives!
I will close by saying that I know that if you allow them to be part of your baby’s life you will also love them like I do!
Thank you for taking time to read my letter and May God bless you!
We wanted to include Mshinda's letter to show you that it's not only about adding a child to our family, but how truly important you are as well in this child's story. We look forward to a lifelong journey together.
With open hearts,
Chad & Arleen
