Spending Time in the Garden

We want to tell you a little about the Amish way of life. The Amish are often misunderstood in the world today because of all the reality TV shows that have false information they are presenting to the public. We are Christians who have simply chosen to live a simpler lifestyle, and are very community and family oriented. We live a slower paced life, and have more family time together since we don’t have all the technology distractions such as social media, and TV. This means we get to be outside more, walking the trails in our woods with our dog, Queen, camping, fishing, playing softball, snowboarding. We have basic cell phones for proper communication through talk or text. We live off the grid, plant our own garden, and live a more sustainable life in general. We do have generator or solar power for running appliances like the vacuum, washer etc. We don’t think that being Amish is the only right way to live and have several close friends and cousins who don’t live the Amish lifestyle. From a parenting perspective, we are more concerned about our children knowing Jesus Christ and serving Him wherever they feel that is, Amish or non-Amish, than we are about making sure they stay Amish.

Adoption in Our Lives

Chris’s brother Mike and his wife have adopted three children. One evening they were telling their children to pray that Chris & JoAnne would have a baby. The oldest son Nicholas said, “No Dad, they are going to adopt too.” This was before he knew anything about us looking into adoption. We think it’s unique that our child will have adopted cousins to relate too. We know any children that are brought into our home will be accepted just as all of the other nieces and nephews are accepted and loved. We know several other families in our community who also have adopted children. We are so excited at the thought of finally being called mommy and daddy, and there are so many things we can’t wait to share with a child!

Our Extended Families

With JoAnne's Nieces & Nephews

We feel blessed to have both of our families living within 30 minutes of our home. Which means we get together often, especially with JoAnne’s family since her parents, and two of her married sisters live within easy walking distance. We also were blessed to both grow up in strong and up building Christian environments. Both of our families are excited and very supportive of our decision to grow our family through adoption.

Chris' Family

JoAnne is the youngest from a family of six girls. She has lots of nieces and nephews who are looking forward to having another cousin! Her family has a yearly tradition of everyone going camping together. We play softball, volleyball, sit by the campfire, roasting s’mores and telling stories. We like to get together to play card games or to celebrate birthdays. Christmas is always a special time with lots of food, gifts and good times.

Chris family consists of three boys and two girls, and ironically, he is also the youngest of the family. His family is full of fun, outgoing and enjoys family campouts during the summer. He has plenty of nieces and nephews who are looking forward to getting another cousin. As a family they get together frequently for cookouts and to celebrate birthdays and holidays. Everyone is so excited to help us welcome a child into our lives!

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

We live in a five-bedroom, three-bath ranch home that is directly next door to JoAnne’s parents and her sister that still lives at home, located in a small town in Ohio. We enjoy our country home, which has a warm inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a young family. We enjoy raising our own vegetables in the garden and spending time in the outdoors.

Our Cozy Living Room

Our community is unique for several things. We are Amish and live in one of the largest Amish / Mennonite communities in the United States. Our neighborhood and area is very community minded and we all help care for each other whenever there is a time of need. Most of our neighbors we are actually good friends with, and will get together frequently to have an evening of games, food and fellowship. Our child will grow up with many friends living close by and will experience winter sled riding with neighbor children as well as exploring summer campouts in our back woods which is part of our property.

We enjoy attending our local small town parade on July 4th. It is considered the biggest small home town parade in Ohio. After the parade we enjoy pizza and ice cream before heading to the public pool to cool off.

From Us to You

We are Chris and JoAnne, we met at a local community volleyball youth night almost 10 years ago. After dating for a few years we got married in the fall of 2014. Our marriage is a strong commitment of love, faith, and having a serving attitude.

We strive to be the best we can be every day, and feel that God brought us together intentionally. We are very opposite from a personality perspective, but it allows us to make a balanced team. Chris has a more adventurous and driven personality and JoAnne is more reserved. This balances us out and helps us to cover all the bases from new adventures to taking the time to relax as a family.

Chris’s career is in sales and interior design, working with people every day. Chris has a passion of helping people realize their full potential and bringing out the best in people. JoAnne works from home doing some secretarial and accounting work for our real estate business, she also does house cleaning for one of Chris’s colleagues. She is looking forward to being a stay-at-home mom once a child is placed in our home. As parents an important role to us is in the future helping our child develop personally and figuring out their purpose in life. Helping a child grow into adulthood honoring God, and living out their calling in life is an important part of parenting to both of us.

We have always dreamed of raising a family together, but a year or so into our marriage we realized we might have fertility problems. After another year or two of trying to be patient and then doing some tests, we were told we would probably never be able to have children. That was a hard time in our lives, but we were able to move on and realized God might have other plans for us. Both of us were always open to adoption and soon we got started in that process.

The thought of adding a child into our home brings so many emotions that it’s hard to put it into words. A few words that come to mind when we think of parenting is Love, Patience, and Commitment. We feel humbled to think of the great responsibility that comes with caring for a child, and raising them into adulthood. However, we are beyond excited to think of becoming parents to a child for the first time, from the simple little every day joys of taking care of a child’s daily needs to including them in family camping trips, get togethers, and taking them to church. We look forward to helping our children figure out their purpose in life, and then giving them all the tools we can to help them achieve that.

We want to reassure you that if you choose us to parent your child, we will be the best parents we know how to be. We will be open and honest to your child about their adoption, and will make sure your child will know how much you loved and cared about them. We are willing to send pictures and letters to you throughout the years as your child grows up.

It is our hope that our profile gave you a better glimpse into our lives. We realize that you are facing a hard decision and want you to know, we think adoption is the most beautiful gift you could ever give someone. Without adoption we might never get to be parents, and for that we would be forever grateful for you and the unselfish decision you made.

God Bless,

Christopher & JoAnne
