Michael & Shelby

Thank you for choosing to read our profile. Adoption has been a blessing to members of our family and we are excited to start our journey, as we have so much love to give! Our Favorite Vacation Spot

Vacationing in Florida

Our favorite vacation spot is Panama City Beach, Florida. We plan a yearly trip to the beach to relax, have fun with activities, and reunite as a family. We try to set aside a full week, as we drive down in order to bring our dogs.

We always stay in a nice condo, owned by a family friend, that is located close proximity to the beach.

Once we are unpacked, we take the dogs for a walk and get them settled, then go explore! Even though we come back yearly, it is always fun to walk the beach the first day to get reacquainted.

Throughout the week we spend time playing in the waves and building sand castles before heading back to the condo for an afternoon nap.

Our evenings always include trying new beach front restaurants as well as going back to some old favorites, then riding go-karts or going bowling.

As we head back to Tennessee, we are excited to get home but are so thankful for another fun, relaxing beach trip.

Dutchess, Tex & Louie

Dutchess, Louie & Tex

We have three dogs: Dutchess, Tex, and Louie. They were all rescues so we aren't 100% sure on breeds, but we are pretty sure Dutchess and Louie are Chihuahuas. Tex is more of a mystery, but we think he's some sort of Chihuahua/Terrier mix. All three have very distinct personalities. We've had Dutchess the longest and she's the alpha of the house despite being the smallest. Tex is very loving and playful. Louie is shy, but sweet.

We love watching them play together and taking them for walks. They enjoy meeting new people in the neighborhood and have always been very sweet with children. All three are cuddlers at heart though, and want nothing more than to curl up on the couch and watch a movie with us on a rainy afternoon.

Our dogs are like family to us. They love unconditionally and deserve the same from us in return. While we recognize that caring for children is a very different and more challenging responsibility, we plan to approach parenting with the same unconditional love that we give our dogs.

Fun Facts About Us:

  • Between the two of us, we have seven siblings.
  • Both had dogs named "Bandit" and "Willie" when we were growing up.
  • Michael is 6'7" and constantly gets asked how tall he is or if he played basketball when we are out in public.
  • We grew up less than two miles apart, but didn't meet until college.
  • Michael is an engineer by day and a writer for a football blog by night.
  • Shelby worked for ten years in the medical industry before accepting an administrative position at a construction company.
  • We both love sushi and hate olives.
  • Both sides of our family have a long history of coaching youth sports and Michael looks forward to continuing that tradition with our child.
  • Shelby loves to cook and is really good at creating tasty dishes without recipes. She looks forward to making homemade baby food!
  • Although we are both afraid of heights, we look forward to overcoming this fear by taking our child to Disney World to ride rollercoasters when they are old enough.

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Home

We recently purchased a home in a family friendly community in Tennessee. We own a 4-bedroom, 3.5 bath home with 3,592 square feet. The home has an open floor plan downstairs including an eat-in kitchen with breakfast nook, family room, formal dining room, den, half bath, laundry room, and master bedroom. In addition, we have a screened in patio with outdoor TV.

    Community Playground

Upstairs we have 3 additional bedrooms, one of which is used for Michael's home office. The child's bedroom is adjacent to a full bathroom and our large playroom. This room has ample space, measuring 10x12, with a large window, and walk-in closet. We have already purchased grey furniture for the nursery! As the child grows, we have a master bedroom upstairs they can transition into.

We love spending time in our bonus room watching movies or on the back patio, relaxing and enjoying the outdoors with our dogs.

Our home sits on a quarter acre lot with a lovely front yard and fenced in backyard, perfect for play time! Our multi-cultural neighborhood is located right across the street from one of Tennessee's best public high schools and includes a community pool and playground, game room, fitness center, and continuous sidewalks. The neighborhood is very kid friendly and also has parties to celebrate holidays, such as the 4th of July!

    Our Extended Families

    Thanksgiving With Family & Friends

We love spending time with our family, both near and far!

On Michael's side, we spend time often with his mom, Nicole, and his brother Keith. Michael and Keith are very close and enjoy watching and playing sports together. Nicole regularly meets us for lunch or we plan a fun outing such as a new movie or a play. During the holidays, Nicole invites us and Keith over to her home to eat yummy recipes that have been passed down from generations prior, then we watch The Grinch and exchange presents! Michael also has two aunts and a grandmother that visit once a year, from out of state.

    Shelby With Her Mom

Shelby's mom and step-dad, Anita and Kelly, live nearby and we visit them often, as they have a farm with lots of land and animals! Anita is always up for hosting a party to celebrate milestones, birthdays, and holidays! Every year, we go to a baseball game with them her my aunt and uncle join! We are very close with Shelby's brother Presley who loves coming to watch football games with us on our outdoor TV! We also have a close relationship with Shelby's Granna, Maria. She is fun loving, easy to talk to, and always puts her family first! Shelby has lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins that we see at holidays and throughout the year!

Both of our families have been blessed by adoption and they couldn't be more excited for us to add to our family!

    From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to get to know the two of us. We know you are facing difficult decisions, so please know we admire you for considering adoption. Our hope for you is that you feel supported and loved no matter which path you choose. We pray that God will bring you a sense of peace throughout this journey, as entrusting your child to be raised by someone other than yourself requires incredible bravery, strength, and most of all, love for your child.

We are immensely excited to be parents as we have so much love to give! Although we have been married six years, we knew prior to getting engaged that, due to medical circumstances, Shelby would be unable to have biological children. Because of that, we have been preparing to adopt for many years and now we feel we are ready to welcome a child into our home and our lives. We love each other very much and believe that the foundation of a great family is open and honest communication.

We live in a large single-family home with a fenced-in backyard, four bedrooms, and lots of space for playtime. We have three small dogs that are all rescues: Dutchess, Tex, and Louie. They are all lovable, affectionate parts of our family. Our neighborhood is very family friendly and we always see children riding bicycles, playing on the playground, or swimming in the neighborhood pool. Your child will have lots of friends nearby to grow up with! Our home is located in the suburbs of a relatively large city and sits just minutes from the neighborhood schools, two parks, and our church.

Although we are not overly religious, we do attend church regularly. It is a modern church with people from different nationalities and backgrounds and we were drawn to them primarily due to the consistently uplifting and inclusive messaging of our pastor. He does a great job of taking the teachings of the Bible and applying them to everyday life in a way that people can use to better themselves. They offer an excellent children's ministry where your child will be welcomed with happiness, friendship, and spiritual guidance, as well as lots of fun activities. They recently took a mission trip to Jamaica and included the high school kids!

We want to raise a child who will be conscientious and caring, understand right from wrong, and fearlessly be themselves. Your child will be given every opportunity to pursue their dreams with our full support.

Our most important promise to you is that we will give this child unending and unconditional love. We will send letters and pictures regularly to keep you updated on their growth and development over the years, and we will plan to schedule a meeting if this is something you desire. If you would like to exchange emails or phone calls, we would be open to that as well. We want the child to know who you are and that you made your decision out of love for them.

We have a deep love and respect for you and your selflessness. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us and our family. We look forward to traveling this road with you.
