Kris & Greg

We know that there is a baby out there waiting to be born into our family and every day we hope that their mother will find us soon. Maybe that mother is you. We have a wonderful life together and we can't wait to raise a child. We hope that this will give you an idea of who we are and why we would be good fathers.

How We Met

Moments Before the Iron Man Swim

From across the volleyball court in 2013, we sparked a friendship through an LGBT volleyball league in Chicago. Shortly after becoming friends, we found ourselves on the same side of the net for a volleyball tournament, and you could say it was love at first bump, set, and spike.

Shortly after we realized there was a connection worth pursuing, Greg confessed to Kris that he had signed up for an Iron Man and was going to be on a schedule that consisted of 2 workouts a day for the following 6 months. Kris took the opportunity to become a support system as Greg trained for the race, which would consist of 2.4 miles of swimming, 140 miles of biking, and 26.2 miles of running.

Over the course of the training months, Kris got to meet Greg's family and their relationship only deepened. Once the race was completed, it was a no-brainer to take the relationship to the next level, and we purchased a condo in Chicago's Ukrainian Village where we live today. The home was not complete without a best friend to come home to, and River, a rescued hound-mix, was adopted into the family shortly after moving in together. Since saying "I do" in 2016, life has been full of travel and adventure.

What Makes Us Unique

Greg & Our Niece Both Love to Draw!

Greg has always been drawn to the arts, and considers himself an entrepreneur. Growing up in Rockford, Illinois and attending a small high school, he was allowed to dabble in a bit of everything from sports to choir, and musicals to cross-country running. He loves giving himself a challenge and persevering through the growing pains to see things through to the finish line. His determination has led him to start his own business where he helps small businesses and non-profit organizations with their technology.

Kris is a Proud Marathon Runner

Kris was born in the Philippines and came to the states by way of New Zealand at the age of 10. He and his younger brother, Jerico, grew up with the idea of the American Dream. Being able to say that his family persevered beyond poverty, allowing him to become a college graduate and self-sufficient adult, is one of his biggest life accomplishments. Kris is skilled at putting chaos into order and uses these skills as a meeting planner and resources to friends and family.

Our Hopes for an Open Adoption

We know that above all else, we will have an environment that is filled with love, support, and amazing people that come from diverse walks of life.

There will be days of exploring urban jungles, losing hours at the shores of Lake Michigan, and other days spent driving through the sprawling golden countryside on the way to get freshly baked apple cider doughnuts from a local orchard.

We know that you will be welcome to visit us as much as you are able to, and we would love for you to be one of those amazing people that make up our family.

We know that everything won't be easy, but we are also ready for the experience ahead and know that when the time is right, we will start the unforgettable journey into parenthood and begin the next chapter of our lives as fathers.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home Sweet Home

Chicago has been home to us for over ten years, and we have been in our current condo for over four. Our building has six units and is the first place we have lived where we feel close to our neighbors. One couple in our building is in the process of starting their family as well, and the idea of having another family so close by is very appealing to us.

We have an eye for contemporary design that still feels warm and welcoming, and can't wait to convert our second bedroom into a nursery.

Ukrainian Village, the neighborhood where we live, is filled with tree-lined streets, playgrounds, and is just over a mile from The 606 (an elevated running path that was converted from an old train track). We can't wait to explore the neighborhood and go on runs with both child and pup in tow!

Thinking ahead, there are multiple well-rated elementary schools within walking distance of our condo (two of which are tri-lingual teaching Polish, Spanish, and English). We are over-the-moon about the diversity we are going to be able to include in raising a family.

Our Extended Families

Greg's Family

As RuPaul once said in one of our favorite shows, RuPaul's Drag Race, "We as gay people get to choose our family and the people we are around." We have not only been blessed with loving parents who are still together, but also brothers, and an incredibly close-knit friend group that stood beside us on our wedding day (all of whom are beyond excited to be aunts and uncles when the baby arrives).

Kris' Family

Greg's parents live just two hours outside of Chicago on a 40-acre ranch where Greg's dad boards, trains, and raises horses. We recently met our nephews there where we played for hours with some of Greg's childhood toys and explored nature and met horses.

Christmas always means a commute to New Jersey to visit Kris's family. This road trip becomes more special each year, providing a great opportunity to connect, listen to an audiobook, and spend time together uninterrupted. We can't wait to continue this tradition with a child.

Both sides of the family and close friends are excited to add a new member to the family and cannot wait for us to have a child! There will be endless amounts of love and care from both our biological and chosen family.

From Us to You

To an incredible woman,

Brave is an understatement for what you are considering, and we are humbled at the fact that we may be the chosen couple to be the fathers of your child. As two men, we are not going to pretend to know what it feels like to be going through this process as a mother. It must at sometimes feel like to have the weight of the world on your shoulders. It must feel like you are trying to make an almost impossible decision, and that is okay. We want you to know that we are not here to make the decision for you and there is no right or wrong answer. We want you to know that we are ready to be parents and that we are honored to even be considered.

We know some of the sacrifices you are making to consider adoption, and we are here to be an open support system for you during the time leading up and after having your baby. We are excited and ready to explore the opportunity to come up with a plan that will allow you to be a part of your child's life. We are open to sending letters and pictures on a regular basis, scheduling visits, face-timing, and making sure you are able to see the loving home and environment we will provide as fathers.

We started our adoption journey over two years ago after getting married. To say we are excited to start a family, would be an understatement. From babysitting when we were younger to seeing friends and relatives begin to grow their family, we have been able to hold and play with kids that seem to grow up before our eyes. We capitalize on every opportunity to play with matchbox cars and superheroes with Greg's nephews or Barbie's and make-believe with Kris' nieces. Having a kid in your lap, snuggled under a blanket, while you read a bedtime story can be one of the most simple, but amazing experiences life has to offer. Seeing a child's face light up as a dog passes on a morning stroll, having them call out in an undecipherable "woof woof" can just melt your heart. We can't wait to capture some of those same moments as we start our family, and will share those moments of joy with you as well.

We are nervous too, and we think that's OK. We know there are going to be moments when we have to trust our parental instincts, and times when we just have to do our best. But we know that we have an incredible support system of family and friends that will be here to help us through every step of the way. We know that when things get stressful we have a great relationship with each other that is built on communication and love that will help us through. We are committed to each other and will put our family before everything else.

It is impossible to know the future, and we too wish there was a crystal ball that would let us see how it would all work out in the end, but faith is defined as having trust and confidence in something that cannot be seen, and we are asking you to put your faith in us. We will do our absolute best to make sure that this child has an incredible life that is filled with love, filled with adventure, and filled with amazing moments with both us and with you. We know that we are ready to be parents, that we will be able to raise a child that is someone who is caring, kind, and compassionate. Someone who is going to love to tell their story, and who is excited to have two dads, and a mom.

We cannot wait to start this journey with you.

From loving fathers-to-be,

Kris & Greg
