Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Celebrating at a Wedding

We are 100% ourselves around each other and laugh a whole lot. Our relationship is very supportive, open, and honest. We really value each other's opinion and prioritize one another.

Mike according to Lisa: Mike is incredibly personable, warm, and has a large group of friends. He is very social, loyal, spontaneous, and full of BIG stories. He can pretty much strike up a conversation with anyone. His curiosity and engaging nature gives him the ability to connect with people. Mike is also very thoughtful. He never forgets anyone's birthday, milestone, or anniversary and every year is just as important as the last.

Lisa according to Mike: Lisa is an incredibly driven and passionate person. She has a quick sense of humor and has no problem breaking the ice in a room full of strangers. She cares deeply about her family and loves spending time with them. She has a great imagination that our niece and nephews gravitate towards and she is known for creating fun games to play. Lisa is the planner and pays attention to every detail. You can always count on her to plan a huge family dinner in under 24 hours.

Our Family Traditions

Apple Picking With Lisa's Family

Family traditions, no matter how large or small, are a big deal to us.

December 6 is a special date that combines a few family traditions. It's Lisa's parent's anniversary, Mike's birthday, and a German holiday called St. Nicks Day. St. Nicks Day is when kids leave their shoes by the front door and they are filled with candy when they wake up.

One of our favorite things to do is rent out a summer house with our family. We cruise around on beach bikes, have picnic lunches, make sandcastles, and build bonfires at night. This time is important because it allows us to connect with our family, create memories, and spend some much needed time on the water.

We are also looking forward to creating new memories together. We want to go to the pumpkin patch and create epic Halloween costumes; camp over the July 4th weekend; spend falls full of football, apple picking, and baking; and leave out carrots/cookies for Santa and his reindeer. Lisa is looking forward to weekends full of going to the park, making crafts to display on the refrigerator, packing lunches together, and Mike is excited for the pool, summer camps, movies, firework nights, and baseball games.

All of this and more is what we want for our family!

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Condo Building

We live in the heart of a vibrant city in Illinois. We love the diversity of our neighborhood, the art murals, and supporting the family owned businesses in our neighborhood. Our community feels very connected with generations of family living within blocks of one another. We love walking our dog, Stanley, throughout the neighborhood and stopping for coffee.

We live in a four-story building in a two-bedroom condo. Lisa really likes home decor and watches HGTV, so she has really changed our condo so it's bright and colorful. We have a huge dining room table, lots of seating in our kitchen, and family room so it's great spot for gatherings.

There are a lot of children in the neighborhood because of the easy access to parks and schools. We live within a block from an elementary school, a few blocks from the high school, and have several parks around us. It is easy to go visit the pirate ship park one day and the next day bike along the lakefront or go to an art fair. There is a recreation center only two miles away that hosts movies in the park and tons of kid friendly activities--even a pet parade! We also like how accessible the museums are and look forward to visiting the aquarium and science museum.

    Our Extended Families

    Mike's Family

Most of Mike's family live on the west coast which is the best place to escape our cold weather during the holidays! Mike's mom is an excellent chef, especially with Brazilian dishes. Mike's dad is a professor and is active in causes around campus. We love visiting them and going to farmers markets and trips to beach side towns for whale watching.

Mike's brother and his wife are both veterinarians. They have a young son and a daughter on the way. Mike's sister lives on the east coast with our other niece and nephew. She has hilarious stories from babysitting Mike as a child.

    Lisa's Family

Lisa's family lives a few miles away and we have them over weekly for dinners. Lisa's dad and Mike are fans of rival baseball teams so there are always healthy debates. Lisa's mom is our #1 supporter and she goes on long walks with Lisa every Sunday. They are both in love with their roles as Gramps and Mimi and are excited to welcome their next grandchild to the family.

Lisa's younger and older sisters are also eager to lend extra support. We have two-brother-in-law's who can't wait to compete to be the cool uncle. We also can't get enough of our two nephews who will most definitely be part of a weekly play group.

    From Us to You

Thank you for taking time to read our profile as you consider what is best for your child. Thank you for learning about the life we lead and the hopes we have for starting a family through adoption.

Our approach to embracing adoption is always to be honest, open, patient, and when all else fails you can count on us to break the ice with humor.

When we first started this process, we wanted to show you what would make us unique as parents. We realized pretty quickly that we may seem like your typical, everyday couple. We work and live in the city and have a very cute rescue dog, Stanley. We don't have any crazy hobbies or hidden talents. We are not actors, musicians, or star athletes. So we took a step back and realized that when it comes to parenting, none of that actually matters. What does matter is we will work our hardest to give our child opportunities so that they can do all of these things, if they want. Mike doesn't have to be a lead singer in a band to be a great dad, but if our child wants to be a musician, we will get them a guitar and singing lessons. Lisa doesn't have to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to be a great mom, but if our child loves the outdoors, we are ready to rough it. We know that each child will have their own personality, likes, and dislikes and we will always be there to listen and fully embrace what makes them unique.

We promise to encourage compassion, diversity, adventure, a good sense of humor, empathy and generosity. We want to be the type of parents that can make our child a laugh-out-loud kind of friend, dedicated partner, well-rounded person, and someone everyone wants on their side. We have a supportive community to make sure they are surrounded by love.

We feel like we are at a point in our life and in our relationship where we ready for this next step. We have been together for over 12 years and married for six. We have worked hard, built a home, traveled, maintain healthy routines, support a lovable dog, pursue stable careers, love our supportive friends and family, and have faith that this will work out. We are grateful for this opportunity and hopeful for the future.

Most importantly, we believe that a huge factor in all of this will be our relationship with you. We value open adoption and it is our hope that you will want to stay connected.

Overall we are so excited to start a family. We know this is going to be a wonderful adventure and we can't wait to start it. Our dream is to have a family and give a child the love and support they need to be their best. Should you choose us on this journey of adoption we look forward to learning more about you and your hopes for your child.

    Thank you,

    Mike & Lisa
