Why We Chose Adoption

Ashley & Her Cousins

We always knew that adoption would be our plan for starting a family. Ashley found out in her teen years that she would not be able to have biological children. Instead of dwelling on the news, she instead focused on the positives of building a family through adoption. When we grew serious in our dating relationship, we discussed building a family. Mike was enthusiastic about the adoption journey and we both knew that it was meant to be. After seven years of a great marriage, we both knew that it was time to begin our family. We are so excited to be parents and we are confident that we can provide a loving, fun, and happy home for a child.

Adoption runs in both of our families. Ashley's young cousins were adopted from China and Mike's cousin was adopted as well. Adoption is respected and openly embraced within our families. We know that our journey is only possible with your selfless decision. We hope to take that journey together.

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Home

We live in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Our community is very safe and welcoming. Our neighborhood has lots of young families, and we are within walking distance to our local elementary school. Our neighborhood has multiple parks - but what makes it really unique - is the 3 miles of walking and bike riding paths that meander around four ponds and a river. Our town has a wonderful farmer's market, lots of restaurants, and hosts a music festival every summer. We also have highly rated schools and many community events.

We love our home! It is a two-story single family home that sits on a beautiful pond. We have a fenced in backyard and a great shady patio. Our home has 4 bedrooms, so we have plenty of room to grow our family! We even picked out our nursery - a cozy, sunny room that faces the pond! Our favorite room in the house is our kitchen. Mike is always making something delicious, and we have an open floor plan so that you can still socialize when in our spacious family room. We love to relax downstairs with a fire crackling in our fireplace and spend time watching movies and playing games together. Even our dog, Sophie, loves our home - she is always taking sun naps on the stair landing.

    Our Extended Families

    In Aruba With Ashley's Family

We are both so fortunate to come from wonderfully fun-loving families and friends.

Ashley's brother lives just a few towns over. They run a nonprofit together, in honor of their late father's battle with cancer, and share a passion for movies. Ashley's mom lives in Alabama, but frequently travels to visit and stays for all major holidays. We travel a lot with Ashley's family, who love to vacation and spend time together. Aruba, Hawaii, Europe...we love to see and experience new things.

    Local Festival With Mike's Parents

Mike's mom and dad live less than an hour away from our home. Being Italian, Mike's family loves to cook pasta and enjoy eating big meals together. Mike also has a younger sister who lives nearby. We love to attend Chicago Cubs baseball games together with Mike's family. Mike also loves spending time with his godson and goddaughter.

We come from a close-knit group of friends. All of us grew up together and all live close by. We have cookouts, birthday parties, and love to spend time just hanging out. Our friends make us laugh, support us through life, and make every day so much fun.

Our families and friends have been so supportive of our adoption journey. Adoption runs in both of our families, and our friends are so excited to raise their children alongside ours.

    From Us to You

Hello there! We are Mike and Ashley, and we are so happy that you are taking the time to learn more about us! It is clear that you are already making a hard, but beautiful, decision to consider adoption. We know that you must already have so much love for your child, and we are honored to know that you would consider sharing that love with our family.

Speaking of love, it is exactly that which brought us together as a couple. We met over ten years ago, and had our first date over coffee. Mike was smitten with Ashley right from the start, while Ashley was looking to just remain friends. Then, about three weeks later, Mike played with Ashley's young cousins at a local park and his warm smile, childish excitement, and sweet attitude completely won her over. We dated for two years and then Mike popped the question on a family vacation. Our wedding was such an exciting day, and we are proud to say that we've been happily married for over seven years. We truly are best friends, and we both feel that adoption was always the path meant for us. Unlike other couples who travel the road of infertility, we knew before getting married that adoption was going to be our way of building a family.

We feel completely ready to begin our family and confident that we will be loving parents. Ashley is a teacher, who has great hours, summers off, and works close to home. Her background in education will make her such a great mother, and will be such a help in teaching our child. Mike is completely family-oriented. He makes dinner each night, and is great about balancing home and work. We both know that our lives will change with the addition of a new baby, but we are so excited to be parents and we know that our hearts are full of love.

Our families and friends have been so supportive about our adoption journey. It has been so helpful to have so many people around us be open and accepting. We know that having a strong support system will help our child feel connected, welcomed, and a part of our family. Adoption is something to be embraced, and we are so excited to raise our child alongside a huge network of people that already love them.

We often think about what you may want to know when us first read about our family. What type of parents will they be? Will they guide my child to success? Will they be kind? Will they be patient and understanding? Will they be fun and take them on adventures? Will they teach responsibility? Will they be open and honest? The answer is "yes". We plan on helping our child embrace their adoption right from the very beginning. We want to share letters and pictures with you. We want you to know how loved your child is and how important you are to their story. While we may be different people, and have never met before, we already feel connected to you. Because the truth is, we already have one very important thing in common. We both want the very best for your child.

    With love, hope, and respect,

    Mike & Ashley
