Shannon & Shaunah
What can we say, WOW! Thank you for taking the time to look at our profile and getting to know us. We cannot imagine what you are going through, but we promise to always be open and honest. We are so excited to become first time parents and will make sure your child is loved, supported, and of course a little spoiled. We offer our support and prayers wherever your journey leads you.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Our favorite spot to vacation is Shaunah's family cabin, the Island Lodge. It is located in Northern Wisconsin on a five-acre island. It has been in the family since the late 1800s.
Our family is very close and it's a great time to get everyone together and create more family memories. It is the perfect place to get away, relax, and enjoy nature.
We spend most of our time there tubing with Shaunah's cousins, skiing, paddle boarding, playing cards and other games with the family.
Every night we take a pontoon ride and look for the eagles, listen to the loons and look for other wildlife. There are so many memories and stories created there and we cannot wait to include a child in those!
Our lifestyle is an even mix between being active and laying low. Shannon is a general contractor and has his own building and remodeling company. Shaunah is a surgical technologist and works at a plastic surgery center. Our jobs keep us busy but we always find time for us.
In the summer we spend most of our weekends boating on the three lakes near our house, going to the family cabins, farmers market, gardening, and golfing. One of our favorite things to do is sit on the front porch with our morning coffee and talk. Where we live you take advantage of the summer weather as much as possible before the cold winter comes.
During the cold months we spend most of our time cuddled up on the couch next to the fire watching our favorite Netflix shows and movies. Shannon played hockey in high school and Shaunah ice skated when she was younger, so we do go ice skating often. Our neighbors have an ice rink in their backyard so Shannon enjoys going over there and playing hockey with their four boys. He is excited to teach our child how to skate, and maybe even coach.
We both love watching football and have season tickets to our favorite team, the Wisconsin Badgers. Sun, rain, or snow we are there cheering them on!
Why We Chose Adoption
We have struggled with infertility for seven years. We have been through many infertility treatments (medications, inseminations, in vitro, donor eggs, donor embryos, surrogate) all which did not result in a pregnancy. We had always thought about adoption but also always thought one of the infertility treatments would work. After we found out we could not carry a child we began looking at adoption more closely. We both knew we were not ready to give up on our dream of becoming parents. After everything we have been through, it is clear that adoption is the path God has chosen for us. We feel emotionally ready to parent a child and provide a good life to them. For the first time in a while, we are optimistic that this is finally going to happen. We feel extremely grateful and we are so excited about this experience and growing our family through adoption.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a small suburb in the Midwest. We built our house seven years ago and it's a two-story house with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths. It is located next to a rain garden on a dead-end street, which is a great spot for children to play and ride their bikes. The majority of our neighborhood is couples around our age with young children. One of the things we like most about where we live is the great neighbors, we have become friends with. It truly is a community where everyone looks out for each other. We enjoy getting together with our neighbors for movie night in the park, 4th of July fireworks, summer barbecues, and ice skating in the winter.
There are a few parks by our house, one just down the street and the other two within a mile. One of the parks has a splash pad for the kids and events almost every weekend during Spring to Fall. Our community has a local farmers market where we love to go and get local veggies, flowers and most important cheese curds. There is also a pool, summer concerts and festivals, a back to school block party, Easter egg hunt, and many more family-friendly activities.
The school district we are in is the most diversified in the area and offers an integrated multicultural curriculum. It is where many of the neighborhood children go. There are also a few private schools in the area that are also very good.
Our Extended Families
Family is extremely important to us. Shaunah is an only child and is very close to her parents. They live less than a mile from us and we see them at least once a week. Shannon has an older sister with two sons and a daughter. Shannon's mother and sister live about 45 minutes from us and we try to get together for family dinner once a month. We host most holidays at our house where both our families come and enjoy the delicious food Shannon cooks and a little skittle bingo.
Both our families have cabins that we spend a lot of time at during the summer months. It is a time when the whole family gets together and enjoy water skiing, tubing, card games, go karts, mini golf and just being together. Shannon's sister's boyfriend has two little girls, so that has been fun having two young kids around. They have helped us perfect our coloring skills and always entertain us with their silly personalities. Our nephews and niece have grown up to be amazing young adults. We love being able to offer financial advice, and guidance on their careers and relationships. We like to think they still consider us a cool and fun uncle and aunt.
We are also lucky to have an amazing group of friends who we consider family. We look forward to the birthday parties, camping trips and backyard barbecues with them and their kids.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We cannot imagine what you have been through or what lies ahead. We want you to know you are not alone and that there are people out there who care about you.
We went to the same high school, knew who each other were, but never actually had a conversation together. About 11 years after graduation, we saw each other at a football game in our hometown. Right away there was a connection and the conversation just flowed. We exchanged phone numbers and Shannon called Shaunah and asked her out for a fish fry. Where we live Friday night fish frys are very popular. We dated for five years before we got married. Shannon wanted to make sure he was financially ready to support a family. We are truly best friends so of course we do have little disagreements now and then, but most importantly we make each other laugh and respect one another. We both grew up in families that are very close not to just immediate family, but our extended families too. Every summer we get together at Shaunah's family cabin and spend time with all her aunts, uncles, and cousins. We enjoy being outside and boating on the lakes around our house, going to the farmers market, and having family and friends over for barbecues. We also enjoy going on vacations and exploring new places and cultures. We look forward to traveling with a child and having them see and experience new places.
We have been married for eight years and have been trying to start a family since the very beginning. We struggled for years with infertility and have been through some tough times. All the challenges we have faced have only made us and our marriage stronger.
We know now that God's plan for us is adoption. We always saw having a family as the next step in our lives and adoption has filled us with new hope and a sense of possibility. We have already learned so much from this experience and we are so excited for the next step. We look forward to sharing our hopes and dreams with a child. Your child will grow up in a home filled with love, support, and lots of laughter. We promise to provide him or her with a good education, a safe home, and a sense of security. We will teach them right from wrong, good and bad, and will love them unconditionally.
We have yet to meet, but admire your bravery and selflessness. We do not know your story or what has led you to consider making an adoption plan, but just know we support you every step of the way. We promise to be open and honest with all the questions you may have for us and hope you find us to be the perfect couple to raise your child.
We think it is very important to have a relationship with you through this process and your child's life. We will communicate with you through email and texts and provide you with pictures. We are open to discussing more contact if that is something you are interested in. Your child's culture is important to us and is something we will introduce into our own traditions. No matter what you choose, we wish you, your child, and your family all the best.
