Greg & Nathalie
Thank you reading our profile. To adopt a child is something we have wanted for a long time. We hope you will see in us parents who want to love and cherish a child with all of our hearts. To be your child's parents would be the greatest gift. We humbly hope you will consider us and look forward the journey that lies ahead.
We currently live in beautiful Tanzania, Africa. Greg is a foreign service officer and Nathalie works for an international education non-profit. For a lot of our adult lives, we've lived or worked overseas. Through this, we've had the privilege of creating cherished relationships with our colleagues and getting to know and appreciate the traditions and cultures different from our own.
Nathalie grew up in a French household and her parents strove to maintain the traditions and values of French culture. As a result of these experiences, we've come to value celebrating cultural diversity. We are committed to hold true to this as we learn more about our adoptive child's background, and as we share our own and our community's cultural backgrounds, we've come to deeply value.
As parents, we view one of our mains roles to be providers of enriching and educational experiences for our future child. We believe education doesn't just mean school but also means acquiring practical skills and learning about oneself, others, and the world. Since we are a foreign service family, our child will have the opportunity to live and experience several different countries and cultures. In these countries, we will also ensure our child is enrolled in the best international schools. We will also save for their college fund so they will have stress-free access to college.
Our Leisure Time
In our leisure time, we like to stay active. Greg enjoys sailing and doing projects. Last year, he spent a weekend building a Christmas tree out of wood scraps to spruce up the Christmas décor in the house. He finds enjoyment in the process of creating, building, and achieving things. He also likes to cook big meals for family and friends to enjoy.
Nathalie enjoys all things active. Most recently, she's joined a mixed touch rugby team, learned to surf, and taken up distance swimming in the Indian Ocean. She also tutors children from the American embassy community who struggle with reading. During her downtime, she enjoys catching up with friends and family back home, playing with the dogs, and enjoying the yummy meals that Greg cooks for us.
We look forward to sharing our hobbies and activities with our child.
How We Met
We met in 2009 while working in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Greg was a volunteer attorney for the Human Rights Office at the United Nations and Nathalie was working on an education project. We met at a friend's birthday party. From then on, we spent our weekends exploring the country together—visiting national parks, trying new and interesting foods, and getting to know people we'd stay in touch with till this day. Our shared passion for our work, exploring new places, and meeting new people sparked our relationship. We've continued to share these values ever since.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a quiet and safe neighborhood in the capital of Tanzania. Every morning and evening, we take our two dogs on walks around the neighborhood or to the beach nearby.
We also spend a lot of time at the nearby Beach Club where many of our American and international friends with young children often go to play on the beach, at the pool or on the playground. Greg loves to sail his boat there and Nathalie enjoys swimming in the ocean.
We attend a lot of U.S. embassy events, many of which are family friendly! There is an annual July 4th celebration and Greg always helps to organize the kid's activities.
Our home is a beautiful two-story home with 3 bedrooms and a large living room, dining room, and kitchen. We love spending time in the living room where we reconnect at the end the day, play with our dogs, strum our guitars, read, or talk. We have a front yard with tropical fruit trees and some garden boxes we've planted. There is also a large front porch where Greg is always working on a project like building himself a surf board.
Our Extended Families
We currently live overseas. Fortunately, this doesn't keep us from spending quality time with our families. We go back to the U.S. once a year, at Christmas or over the summer to see family and friends. As a treat last Christmas, Greg rented a big house in the mountains for his side of the family. For three days, they played games, cooked and ate good food, lounged by the fire, and enjoyed each other's company.
When Nathalie is with her family, they are always buzzing with activity. They go on long walks in nature, cook, and invite old friends over for yummy food. As a Christmas tradition, every member of the family brings an activity they've planned for everyone to do. It could be a science experiment, an art project, a song to perform, or an outdoor activity.
Our families also come see us! Recently, we had our 14-year old niece come visit us. What a treat it was to show her Tanzania!
We also video chat, text, or call our family often. We are so thankful for technology as staying in good touch with our family is very important to us.
From Us to You
We're Greg and Nathalie, and we are honored that you took the time to read our profile. We hope it's helped you get to know us a little more, and we look forward to the possibility of getting to know you. We deeply respect the magnitude of the choice you are making.
We've been married for a little over two years but have been together for ten. Adoption is something we've talked about since we began dating. After taking the time to start our careers, we're excited to finally begin the journey and to share our lives and love with a child.
We are an active couple who love to try new things, travel, and spend time with the people we love. Through our travels, we have built a supportive community of people from across the world. We're excited to include a child in our community and family, and the people we love are excited to meet that child, too.
Greg is a creative thinker. For any problem that arises, he always seems to have a solution. And, if he doesn't have a solution, he'll think about it until he does. Greg is also generous with his time and skills. He gets people excited about trying new activities like back-country camping or sailboat racing. He then gives them the support they need to have fun and succeed.
Nathalie is a motivator and a hard worker. She enjoys taking on challenges in her work and likes to stay active. She also deeply values the people in her life and takes the time to connect with them, despite distance and time differences.
We're also looking forward to sharing our hobbies and traditions with your child. Greg is particularly excited to share his passion for learning, and to teach your child new skills, like cooking, building, and crafting things. Nathalie is looking forward to teaching your child to speak French and sharing her French heritage. She is also excited to share her enthusiasm for singing and outdoor adventures like hiking, camping, and swimming.
In addition to our hobbies, we are committed to offering your child lifelong love, support, educational opportunities and experiences to grow and become their own compassionate, confident, and curious person.
As your child grows, we will make sure to send you regular photos and letters. We also want your child to continue to learn and know about you. We recognize that you may wish to have more or less contact, and we are happy to work with you to determine the level of openness you are comfortable with. We live overseas, but we are wholeheartedly committed to staying in close touch with family and friends back home. We'd apply the same to you while respecting your level of desire for contact. We look forward to working together to provide your child with a healthy, fulfilling, and happy life.
We cannot thank you enough for giving us the gift of becoming parents. We cannot wait to be loving parents to your child.
