Adoption in Our Lives

Setting Sail on Adventure

Our decision to adopt came from an overwhelming desire to become parents and grow our family. Our lives were changed forever two years ago when we welcomed our daughter, Abigail.

Adoption has positively affected our lives in so many ways, making us stronger, more vulnerable and compassionate. Throughout our adoption we have learned many things about ourselves as individuals and as new parents. What we have learned has enabled us to nurture a positive relationship with Abigail's biological mother through letters, pictures and our yearly visit.

Shortly after our adoption of Abigail, our close friend adopted her daughter. Having shared in such an amazing journey we have become closer and our daughters have become best friends. It is these types of relationships that will help make adoption a normal part of their everyday life. Aside from our friend, Anthony's brother and his husband are currently going through the adoption process to expand their own family. It is needless to say that adoption runs deep in our lives, which is why our children will learn to embrace and feel proud of their adoption stories.

We know that the adoption of our next child will have an amazing impact on our lives and truly complete our family unit. We feel that Abigail and her future sibling will be able to celebrate and bond over their adoption stories, however different they are. Knowing what we know now about adoption makes us that much more excited to welcome a new child into our lives and share in the joy of their birth as we welcome them into our hearts and home.

Our Leisure Time

Waiting for Our New Addition

During our free time we love to spend time together as a family. Florida is a great place to do that because there are so many things to do. Our favorite family activity is going to Disney World. Disney World holds a special place in our hearts because it was the first place we went to after our wedding. And although there have been many visits after that, we look forward most to the visits with our children. That's because we feel that seeing the joy and excitement in our children's eyes, will make even the most ordinary moments a special one.

When we are not at a theme park we love to go with Anthony's dad (Poppa) on his boat to go fishing. While none of us are great fishers, we love cruising through the ocean and seeing animals like dolphins or sea turtles up close. It doesn't matter what we do as long as we are doing it as a family we are having fun.

Cultural Diversity

Our Visit to Puerto Rico

When it comes to cultural diversity, we believe that it is important to celebrate the differences that make our child the individual they are. With our daughter Abigail being half Puerto Rican we have done everything in our power to teach her about Puerto Rico and we have even had a chance to take her to the island. We plan to continue to honor the cultures of our childrens' lineage by leaning on the resources we have within our family and friends. Within our immediate family and close friends we feel that we have a melting pot of different ethnicities including African American, Korean, Filipino, Puerto Rican, and Italian.

We feel so lucky to have such a diverse family and group of friends. We love to celebrate each other's cultural traditions and common interests. Through our interactions with different background we have had the opportunity to learn and appreciate each culture deeply. We believe that understanding ethnic and cultural diversity is crucial to our children growth. Having our family and friends so close allow us to help our children celebrate and embrace their ethnic and cultural differences from a young age. We hope between our friends, family, and the education we instill in our children that he/she will never see cultural diversity as a negative, but as a celebration and a part of what makes us all special.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our home is located in an ever-growing suburb near the Gulf Coast of Central Florida. We built our home just over one year ago in a new development closer to our family and friends. Our home is 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a large open kitchen and living room where we spend the majority of our time.

Our neighborhood is extremely diverse with families from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Because many of our neighbors having children at or around Abigail's age, we have been able to build strong relationships with those families and their children. Just a short walk from our home we have several parks, a tennis court, a basketball court, and a large community pool with fountains that we have enjoyed many times. When we aren't at the pool we are usually going for a walk along one of the nature trails in our neighborhood. In addition to all of the fun amenities we have within our community, soon we will also have an Elementary School that we can walk to with our children.

The things we love most about living in Florida, are the beach and theme parks. Our neighborhood is just a few miles from multiple beaches. We are also just one hour away from Disney World and other local theme parks. We feel very fortunate to have a home located in such a vibrantly diverse community close to our family, friends, and activities.

Our Extended Families

Sunday Breakfast at Grandma's

Family is the cornerstone to our happiness. Throughout the year we come together for numerous family gatherings like birthdays, weddings, Sunday breakfast, and of course holiday feasts. Without our families we know that we wouldn't be where we are today. As a result, we treasure the moments we have with them and consider those moments a blessing. Our favorite thing to host for our family and friends is "Game Night." During our "Game Nights" we do anything from playing Just Dance on the Wii or sing on our karaoke machine. There are no dull moments during our game nights and we are excited to continue this tradition with our children's friends as they grow older.

Breast Cancer Walk With Family

We both come from large, tight-knit families, many who live just a short drive away. Each of us has three siblings and between us we have twenty cousins. Growing up our families instilled in us the importance of family. Through the years these values have shined through in the support we give each other and the way we all come together for all the special milestones. It is incredible to believe that while we both we raised in different cultures, our families shared many of the same values. This has made it easy to agree on many of our parenting decisions. We are ecstatic to continue our journey alongside our families because we know that their support is beyond valuable.

From Us to You

Our paths have crossed because of our common desire to give your child the best life possible. Choosing the "right" adoptive family is something that only you will be able to do. You know the qualities you are looking for and what that special something will be. Our goal is to express who we are and the type of life we promise to provide your child if we are indeed the ones you choose. Although this journey is full of twists and turns, we hope that through it all you find comfort in your decision.

We are a young professional couple looking to grow our family through adoption. We met nine years ago through a mutual friend and have been inseparable since. Throughout our relationship we have been there for each other and have always wanted to start a family. Having children is a discussion that was had early on in our relationship. The opportunity to become parents again is a gift that we will be forever grateful for.

Being parents has made us stronger both individually and as a couple. We both love interacting with children so much that we have devoted our lives to working with them, Anthony as a pediatric intensive care nurse and Antonio as an elementary school teacher. These careers not only gave us tools to be great parents, but also help us become financial stable. Before we began looking to adopt, it was most important for us to establish a home together and financial security in order for us to grow our family. In addition, we have the support of our friends and family which we feel is a crucial part of raising a child because as the old saying goes, "It takes a village," and that is what we truly have. We have a village of people in our lives, full of diversity and varying experiences that help us offer our daughter and future child with a loving environment. We also look forward to sharing your child's growth, development and milestones with you through pictures, letters and an annual get together.

We realize that there may be cultural differences between us but, we will never hide from our child who they are or where they came from. As an interracial family, we celebrate diversity and will make sure that our children are proud of who they are no matter what their background may be. Our main goal as parents is to create an environment of love and acceptance that will allow our children to thrive in this world. We know if we raise our children this way, they will be able to stand in the world proud of who they are and their rich backgrounds.

Your choice is one that will forever change the life of the family you choose. We can only hope that through our profile you are able to get a better understanding of who we are and our plans to provide your child with a life full of love and acceptance. We thank you for reading our humble letter and wish only the best for you through this journey.
