Why We Chose Adoption

Christmas in San Francisco

Parenthood is something that we have both embraced and find to be the greatest gift and adventure we can be on! Wyatt is our most active child. He loves to be on his bike, playing soccer, building cars and towers with his blocks. Hudson is everyone's best friend. He is so kind and compassionate with our children, loves playing with his older brother, helping Maggie make grocery lists and cook dinner. Porter is blossoming into a wild and silly boy! He loves to cuddle and hug but also wrestle and chase you around the room.

We first seriously considered adoption right after the birth of our second son. We knew we wanted a big family and adoption was something that meant so much to us and our families. However, we very quickly became pregnant with our third son and so the adoption path was put on hold. After the birth of our third son we thought we were finished having more children and took measures to prevent that from happening in the future. However, when he was about 18 months old it became clear to us quickly that we had more room in our hearts and home for another child. When we mentioned adoption to the boys they were all so excited about welcoming a new baby into the house. There are so many things about having another baby in the house that we are excited about but the one we look forward to most is just watching them grow and develop their own interests and personalities. Each child is so different and it is those individual differences that make our family so fun! We can't wait to meet our newest angel!

Our Lifestyle

Birthday Party With Our Nephew

We are very active people so most of our leisure time is spent keeping the kids active and busy, and hopefully outside. We both value fitness and health and try to instill some of those attitudes into our children.

That being said, we are also a very laid-back and casual family. Most of our weekends are filled with kid related activities so when we do have some free time we can be found at the beach or at the lake enjoying the outdoors. Jake loves to swim and surf and seeks out water like a fish, and the boys are following in his footsteps! At the lake Maggie likes to hike, wake-surf and golf, activities we are beginning to teach some of the kids now that they are growing up.

On a rainy weekend we can be found having dance parties in our living room or watching a movie and eating popcorn!

We also love to travel! Between the two of us we have been to almost 30 countries and 40 states. We look forward to being able to explore the world more as the kids get older.

Cultural Diversity

We are fortunate to live in a diverse community outside two major urban area. Your child will be surrounded by people of different races, ethnicities, cultures, orientations and classes making exposure and recognition of diversity common. Our community is very accepting of diversity and our family is filled with unconditional love. We support all of our children to discover who they are not only as it relates to their culture and background but in their own personal interests and goals. We plan to also seek help from neighbors, friends who can help navigate our child through their questions and concerns. A child's biological family and history is so important to their development and we want them to be proud of who they are and their heritage.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our home is a very fun place to be! Down the street is a community pool, and beyond that a very large park with lagoons, walking paths and a playground. This same park hosts our county's Fourth of July Carnival each year with rides, games, and 4-H contest. Throughout the year it also hosts different art exhibits, cultural events, soccer games and weekly farmers market which is a great way to start our Sunday. Our neighborhood is a diverse one with three other inter-racial adopted families a few doors away.

Our home is a four-bedroom, single-story house which we designed to be as child friendly as possible! Our favorite room is our kitchen/living room because this is where our lives happen. Most evenings are filled with wrestling matches or dance parties, race tracks in the living room and nightly stories.

The beauty of living in California is, among others, the weather. Our three children love to play in the backyard, on the play structure or swimming with Jake in the hot tub. In addition, we are only about 30 minutes from the beach and three hour drive from the snow in the winter, both which we visit often with our families. We are also less than 20 minutes from two diverse, large urban areas that support people of all cultures and background.

Our Extended Families

Summer Party With Family

We are surrounded by family in all aspects our of lives. We have aunts and uncles that live down the street, siblings and grandparents within two miles and the balance of our family a short car ride away. We even like each other enough to work together at our office! Maggie's father owns his owns business where we both work along with Maggie's siblings. who will all take over in the future.

Your child would be welcomed into an extended family of more than 10 young children under 6 years old who all love to play, swim, ride bikes and share a lot of pizza! Because they are so close in age they have a very special bond.

Christmas Eve With Family

We met after high school at Jake's cousin's graduation party. We met because Jake's uncle and Maggie's dad are best friends and roommates from college. So even before we met we were already like family. Both sides of our families get along very well and support each other through a lot. We have been in each other's weddings, attended births and birthdays and celebrated Christmas Eve together for as long as we can remember. Deciding to get married was easy as our families were already so connected. We are blessed to have so much love in our lives from people who support us unconditionally and who are so excited to welcome another member to the family!

From Us to You

We still cannot believe that we are here with you today through this letter! A simple “Thank you for considering us” just doesn’t seem to capture how grateful we are for having this opportunity for you to get to know us and our family a little bit more. This process for you must be confusing and difficult as you decide how to best serve your baby. As parents ourselves, we understand the love parents have for their children. That immense amount of love is likely what has brought you to consider an adoption plan.

Family is extremely important to us. We met when we were just starting college through Jake’s family and knew quickly we would marry someday. That was 14 years ago and have been inseparable for the last 9. We are so thankful for that introduction because it led us to where we are today - a loving marriage, growing family and so much hope for the future ahead! We have been blessed with three beautiful boys who are the light of our lives. They are rowdy, active, playful, silly, loving and so looking forward to having another sibling. Our home is filled with laughter, good cooking, and love - a constant state of happy, controlled chaos. We play outside, take the dog for walks, ride bikes, swim and enjoy the beautiful California sunshine.

We know how much time, attention, patience and grace it takes to give yourself to your children. Yes, raising a small human is a miracle and gift, but it can also be messy, trying, filled with coffee and naps. The beauty in having some experience in raising children already is that we know exactly what to expect with another child. Each child in unique and special in every way but showering a child in love is the same no matter how they come into your life. We promise to love your child unconditionally and with our whole hearts.

We live in a beautiful suburb outside two major metropolitan cities that give us the opportunity to live a full and engaged life. Most of our family lives within a 10 miles radius of our home, with the rest just a short car ride away. We spend as much time outside as we can enjoying all the world has to offer. Our kids have attended Montessori pre-schools and the oldest is just starting at a private Catholic school. While we may not be a religious family, we are a spiritual one, believing fully in the morals, values, lessons and humility a religious education can bring to our kids. If the kids grow up not wanting to participate in the Church then we will help them explore whatever faith is calling to them. We also hope to teach our children to not only respect all people but to also respect and care for the world around them.

If you decide to make an adoption plan with us, please know that we respect whatever level of communication you wish to have moving forward via email/letters with pictures and milestones in your child’s life. We are also open to make arrangement for future visits when the time is right. Please also know that in our home you will always be honored and respected. Your bravery in this process is noble. We recognize that this is not an easy decision but just know that we are there with you through this process regardless of how you decide to move forward. I wish you strength and peace as you consider your options. Our hearts are bursting to be able to grow our family through adoption. We would be honored to have a part in the future of your child and will do so with absolute love and respect for you and your family.
