Why We Chose Adoption

Say Cheese!

Our journey to adoption started prior to our marriage with uncertainty surrounding our ability to have biological children. As a result of many deep and emotional discussions, we learned that we were both open to adoption from the beginning.

In 2014, we were blessed with a son, Reid, and we have been embracing both the joys and challenges of what parenthood has to offer. Reid is loving, determined, inquisitive, humorous and outgoing. He is always looking for fun and adventure around every corner.

For the last few years we have been attempting to expand our family, including the use of fertility treatments. Although there were times of disappointment along the way, we believe that this long and often difficult journey has strengthened our family and our resolve to adopt. Feeling a strong pull toward adoption, we ended our fertility treatments and have shifted our focus to the adoption process. We discuss adoption openly with Reid and he is very excited about becoming a big brother. When asked about becoming a big brother through adoption his enthusiastic response is always "Do you mean today?". We cannot wait to expand our family through adoption and see Reid experience the joys of a sibling.

Our Leisure Time

Ready for Golf!

As a couple, some of our favorite things to do are home improvement and landscaping projects. We moved into our home about a year ago and enjoy making it our own through painting, decorating, and landscaping. When winding down for the evening, we enjoy watching HGTV and This Old House to gain new ideas! You may also find us spending time with our fellowship group at church, from picnics and campfires to holiday celebrations and everything in between. Over the last few years, we have developed wonderful friendships and cannot imagine going through life without the support and connections to this wonderful group of friends.

Josh's favorite activity is golf. He enjoys playing wherever and whenever he can. He recently introduced Reid to the game and cannot wait to take him to play on an actual course. For now, they spend their time at the driving range and the mini golf course. He also enjoys reading any book he can get his hands on, from nonfiction history novels to thrillers, and listening to all kinds of music.

Nicole's favorite past time is gardening. She enjoys making planters and decorating the house for the different seasons which we are thankful to have in Pennsylvania. Nicole is also very close to her mom and sister and spends time with them doing various activities from shopping to crafts whenever she can.

Our Family Traditions

Annual Apple Butter Boil - Delicious!

We have worked hard to maintain childhood family traditions while creating our own traditions along the way. Every year we have a large annual fishing trip and fish fry for the first day of trout season at a family cabin. The fishing trip is quickly followed by Easter where Reid's grandparents anonymously "egg" the yard in anticipation of an Easter egg hunt in the morning. In the summer, you can find us on vacation with Josh's family usually at the beach or in Florida enjoying the warm weather. In the fall, we attend the annual apple butter boil, which was started by Nicole's great grandfather many years ago. Getting to enjoy the apple butter we helped to make is a special treat throughout the year. For Halloween, you can find us attending local Halloween parades and trick or treating with our neighbors and friends. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, we experience many traditions with our extended family and friends, such as holiday meals, new pajamas on Christmas eve, and a variety of celebrations on Christmas Day. Our favorite part of these family traditions is reconnecting with extended family members. We truly look forward to the holiday season.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

From legos and Nerf blaster battles to songs and bedtime stories, our home is always filled with excitement and joy!

We live in a wonderful suburban neighborhood in Pennsylvania that represents families of all ages with a pond and numerous walking paths. Our two-story, four-bedroom home has a great yard with a large play set that backs up to a township park. We spend many evenings outside enjoying the beautiful sunsets and open spaces. We have amazing neighbors that we talk with daily and an annual neighborhood picnic that we love attending.

Our Backyard

Our community has great schools as well as a public pool and town square with restaurants and shops within walking distance. Our town is very family oriented with a Memorial Day and holiday parade that we attend with family and friends. One of our traditions that we look forward to every year is the town fair with endless food, entertainment and enjoyment. Our town is truly an amazing place to live and raise a family!

Residing in Pennsylvania, we are only a train ride away from New York, Philadelphia and many other cities with fun activities and opportunities including museums, zoos, and shows.

Our Extended Families

Josh's Family

Family is a very important part of our lives. Our parents live nearby and really appreciate the role of being grandparents. From weekly childcare to special events and sleepovers, they are present for every important milestone with their grandchildren.

In addition to our parents, we each have an older sibling that lives nearby that we love spending time with as they raise their families.

Nicole's Family

Our Sunday tradition, in addition to church, is spending the afternoon with Josh's family and the evening with Nicole's family. We enjoy food on the grill and each other's company normally ending in a large kickball, wiffle ball game or swimming in the pool with everyone participating.

We celebrate all holidays and go on most vacations with our immediate and extended family members creating lasting memories and time with cousins that is priceless.

Every year we also spend time at Nicole's families cabin with extended family fishing, hiking, and talking around the campfire.

Our families are both eager to support and celebrate the adoption journey with us.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We understand that your decision is difficult and admire your courage, strength and love for your child. We want you to know that you are not alone; we are praying for you and your child as you take this journey.

To provide you with some background about our family, we have been married for eight years and welcomed our son, Reid, to the family in 2014. Reid is a very loving, outgoing, and inquisitive boy with a great sense of humor. He is always on the go and loves a good adventure! He enjoys karate and playing baseball and basketball. We also have two dogs: Lacy, a Chihuahua, and Max, a Mauxie. Both are wonderful with children and love being around Reid. Both of our extended families live within 15 minutes of our home, allowing us to spend time with them on a weekly basis. The grandparents help provide childcare for Reid during the week and strive to attend all of his activities. We all love to get together for family meals or to play games on the weekend. They know that the journey to grow our family has been full of many twists and turns, and they have been very supportive of our decision to pursue adoption, which we wholeheartedly believe is the right choice for us.

We have tried to expand our family over the past few years but have been unable to conceive a child. Since the beginning of our relationship, we have discussed the possibility of adopting a child and what it would look like for us. Now, after months of self-reflection and prayer, we understand why we spent many evenings discussing adoption and know that this is where God wants us to be. We cannot wait to again experience the "firsts" of parenthood as a family of four, as we know that we have more love to give and experience. We believe that a sibling is an invaluable gift for our son and look forward to helping develop this sibling relationship. Reid is eager for a sibling with whom to grow and experience life. He often talks about all of the things he wants to teach his brother or sister or what he wants to do with his sibling. He can't wait to teach them to climb on his playset and how to play Old Maid.

We welcome diversity in our home. We are excited to celebrate the qualities that make each of our children unique, including those that our family may be experiencing for the first time. We will also strive to develop our children into the people God intends them to be. We are fortunate to live in a community that celebrates diversity and provides a safe, opportunity-filled environment to raise a family.

As mentioned above, please know that we believe you are a courageous person, who is displaying the utmost selflessness and love through your actions. We will raise this child with unconditional love, relying upon faith and family.

Thank you again for considering us as potential parents for your child. We hope that by learning more about us, you will feel peace of mind as you consider adoption for your child. As the years pass, we are willing to share your child's growth and experiences with you through pictures, letters and emails, as desired. We value being open and honest with a child in regard to adoption and they will always know the loving decision you made for them. Please know that you will be respected and honored in our home with our words and actions for the brave choice you have made.
