Justin & Elizabeth
Hello! We are honored that you chose to consider our family. Adoption is an immense gift and one we can't wait to be a part of. We have had obstacles and losses on our journey to grow our family, but we know that God has a plan for completing our family through adoption. We pray every day for our future child and birth parents.
Our Daughter, Lucy
We have one daughter, Lucy, who is six. She was born prematurely at 35 weeks, but thankfully was very healthy and did not require a stay in the NICU. We like to joke that she was in a hurry to make a grand entrance into the world, and hasn't slowed down since! She is a bright, caring, determined and spirited little girl. She started kindergarten this year, her first year of all-day school, and absolutely loves it. She enjoys to read and write and is very a creative story teller. One of her favorite activities is swimming, which she does once a week through a local swimming academy. She loves to talk, when she calls or "facetimes" her grandparents, they can hardly squeeze a word in! She is a little "momma". Anytime there is a baby around, she can't wait to help with feeding, holding, or playing! However, Lucy did say that the dirty diapers will be a job for mom and dad!
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
We love to travel as a family and our favorite place to vacation is Florida. We love all that it has to offer with its (mostly) warm weather and sunshine. We love Disney, and have traveled there as a family twice so far, but definitely plan to go back in the future too! We would love to experience Disney with another child!
Our favorite city to vacation in Florida is Cape Coral. Elizabeth's parents usually rent a home there each winter but they just finished building their own vacation home there for all of us to enjoy. We are so excited to enjoy the vacation home with our family. We plan to vacation there at least once a year, but hope to go even more. When in Florida we enjoy going to the beach and looking for sea shells. We also often go out on the boat, and have even been able to see dolphins swimming!
We love animals in our family. We have two indoor pets, a golden retriever named Bow, and a cat named Theodore, Teddy for short. They were both from the humane society, and we could not love them more. Bow travels with us in the fall to the family cottage and we like to say that Teddy is more dog than cat. He often sleeps in Lucy's bed and enjoys his belly rubbed.
We also have chickens, outdoors of course! We currently have nine hens and two roosters. They cluck around the yard, are really fun to watch, and often end up on our front porch! Lucy has her own special chicken, named Pearl. She is a beautiful golden color and lays the brightest blue eggs. We also have an incubator, and plan to hatch some of our own chicks at home, such a fun experience for kids!
Our Extended Families
Both of our families live about 30 minutes from us, so we see them often. Elizabeth's parents live on a local lake, so we often enjoy cookouts, boating and fishing in the summer time. Weekly Sunday evening dinners are also a tradition with Elizabeth's family. These include Elizabeth's parents and her brother. Elizabeth's family also has a cottage that we travel to most weekends in the fall. Our daughter Lucy adores the cottage, she has so much fun exploring and picking raspberries and apples. We can't wait to share that with another child.
Justin’s family includes his mom, two sisters, brother-in-law, and nieces and nephews; we get together with them often as well. One of our favorite activities to do is play board games together. The kids sometimes join in, but Lucy and her cousins often create skits and dance routines to perform for all of us! Justin's mom also loves to bake. One of her favorite activities is having all grandkids bake cookies with her. We are extremely blessed that our family is excited to welcome this child into our lives and love them unconditionally.
Our House and Neighborhood
We were blessed to be able to build our dream "forever" home about two years ago. We have about 6 acres of land and built a modern farmhouse. As Elizabeth says, it's "Joanna Gaines" inspired. One of our favorite features in our house is our wood-burning fireplace. In the winter time we love to cuddle up on the couch and listen to it crackle. In the summer, we love to open the windows and hear the crickets chirp. We also have free range chickens. One of our favorite activities as a family is feeding the chickens treats right out of our hands. They're very friendly!
Our house sits on a cul-de-sac, with only one other home. It is one of our favorite spots to play family baseball or ride our bikes since there isn't any traffic. Our daughter, Lucy, loves to have friends over to our house because they have so much room to play. A favorite activity for the kids is butterfly catching in the summer months. While we do live in the country, we only live about 10 minutes from Lucy's school and plenty of shopping. We also have a local swimming pool and splash pad that is super close by too. One of our favorite town traditions is the local Christmas parade every year. We love to bundle up with our hot chocolate and enjoy the show.
From Us to You
We are so thankful and humbled that you are taking the time to learn more about our family. We hope that as you learn more about us you feel at peace. Please know that we value you, and your consideration in this process is inspiring to us. We are thinking about you and your sweet little baby daily, wishing you happiness and fulfillment in your decisions.
We have had many struggles on our road to parenthood, but have always known that God has a plan for our family. We were able to conceive a biological child, Lucy, who is six years old. She is our greatest blessing! However, the road traveled from her conception to delivery was not an easy one. Elizabeth had some pregnancy complications that caused her to be put on bedrest, and Lucy was born prematurely. Since Lucy has been born, we have known that our family is not complete.
Over the past several years, we have had miscarriages and sought advice from multiple specialists. The last specialist felt surgery for Elizabeth was the best "chance" at having any future successful pregnancies, but the outcome or success of a pregnancy would still be unknown. After many struggles and challenges, we know that God's plan is for us to welcome a child into our family through adoption, and we couldn't be more grateful or excited. Lucy also cannot wait to be a big sister! One of the most heartbreaking struggles we have endured is how badly she desires a sibling. She is such a caretaker and is going to be a great big helper. If you ask Lucy, she wants twins!
We met about 13 years ago through a mutual friend. We dated for about two years, and then had about a one-and-a-half-year engagement. We were married in 2011 and have been married for nine years now. We have grown stronger as couple during that time and we were blessed to welcome Lucy into the world in 2013. Navigating the roles of parenthood together has been challenging, but also has been the greatest reward. Marriage isn't always easy, as we have had to go through terrible loss and heartache. However, we learned the importance of prayer, gratefulness, and communication during these times. We believe these experiences have strengthened our faith and love for one another.
Please know that you are incredibly courageous and your selflessness is admirable. This baby will be loved, cherished, and appreciated all the days of their life. We want you to know that we hope to have a relationship with you, if you desire. We would love to send updates to you via email, letters, and photos. It is important to us that our child knows about you and who you are. They will know that you love them, so much so that you made the hardest decision of your life for them. We believe that this child should know about you from birth, in age appropriate ways. You will always be discussed with joy and positivity. We envision rocking this sweet baby in our nursery telling them bedtime stories all about you!
We know the decisions you are faced with are not easy ones. Thank you for allowing us to share our story and hearts with you.
Love and blessings,
Justin & Elizabeth
