We Love to Travel & Visit New Places - San Miguel de Allende

We believe it is important to have a sense of belonging, history, and most importantly, home. We want our child to know not only about their heritage, but about others throughout the world and to have role models that look like them, as well as people from all over the globe. We love to travel- one of our favorite things about it is learning and embracing differences in people and their way of life. We want to instill this in our children. Carlos has an ear for language, and is fluent in Spanish, English, and proficient in German. Ali is fluent in English, and proficient in Spanish- it's a process! While we primarily speak English together, we hope to speak both English and Spanish to our children, as we think it is such a benefit for them to grow up exposed to multiple languages.

Our friends are from a wide range of places: Kenya, India, Pakistan, France, Indonesia, rural places, big cities, and friends living all over the world. We are constantly learning new traditions and cultures and love every minute of it. We believe that everyone that you come in contact with throughout your life imprints onto you. We have come across some absolutely amazing individuals and we are lucky to carry pieces of them with us. We are excited to incorporate any new familial or cultural traditions into our home!

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Winter Fun at the Cabin

Ali About Carlos: Carlos is the most genuine and nicest person I know, and I am honored to be his partner in life. Not only does he see the good in all people, but he attracts equally wonderful people into his life. He has to be the best listener I know. He remembers details, dates, and small things that someone may have mentioned in passing, and follows up on that, wishes happy birthday, a congrats, or a shoulder to lean on if needed. Carlos makes me laugh every day and knows exactly what I need without saying a word. Whether we're in the jungle, beach, middle of a mountain range, or in the mundane of everyday life, he makes it fun.

When I picture the qualities that make up a wonderful dad, I picture Carlos. He does not judge, always listens, supports, and loves. Not to mention he already has the dad-jokes all figured out. As truly excited as I am to be a mom, I am even more excited to see Carlos be a dad.

Carlos About Ali: Ali is a very compassionate person and she carries this in every aspect of her life. She is genuinely interested in the well-being of others, and good deeds come naturally from her. While she is more reserved with friendships and tends to keep a smaller group of friends, she attracts wonderful and very loyal people into her life.

Ali has a very goofy and playful personality when the occasion allows, and we always find the fun side of things in whatever we do, such as in trips, home improvement projects, trying new places to eat, and just navigating life. All these qualities together, amongst many others will make Ali a great mother. I am excited to see Ali navigate through motherhood, and share this experience with her.

Our Pup, Bjorn

Sweet Bjorn

Bjorn is our lovable Bernese Mountain Dog. He is goofy, and makes us laugh every day. This breed of dogs is known to be wonderful family dogs, which was one of the main reasons we chose this breed. We both grew up with dogs and want our children to also grow up with that furry best friend, too. We would love to continue training and get him certified as a therapy dog so he can visit hospitals, nursing homes, or wherever needed to help cheer people up. He is very gentle with children and always impresses us with how he can just sense when he needs to be calm and more careful. He loves to hike, but otherwise is not the most athletic dog in the world. This summer we got him a carriage to attach to our bikes to we can take him with us when he otherwise would not be able to keep up. Ridiculous, but we love him!

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a large city in Minnesota in a wonderful neighborhood. Our home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We have a large, fenced-in back yard. We love Minnesota for its open-minded, laid-back, and outdoorsy lifestyle. The people are diverse, and differences are celebrated.

Our neighborhood is a mix of younger and established families but has a very strong family and community feel throughout. The elementary school up the block is loved by all those in the community. There is a large playground, basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, a splash pad, community grills and picnic areas- a great area to play no matter what your age! Neighborhood kids are frequently outside playing and free roaming with friends, which is so refreshing to see in the days of electronics! We want to instill the importance of play, being outdoors with less screen time for our children.

The homes in our neighborhood have a lot of pride, well maintained yards, old homes that have been lived in, but taken very well care of throughout the years. Everyone remarks on how wonderful this neighborhood is to live and raise a family.

Our Extended Families

Ali's Family

We are both close with our families, though Carlos' family lives in Mexico. Both sets of our parents have been married for 36 years. Ali's parents live 15 minutes away and we see them at least weekly for dinner, play/watch games, or just to visit! Ali has two older siblings that both live 15-30 minutes away whom we also see on a regular basis. Ali's sister was diagnosed with a rare brain disease several years ago. Since then, her family has only strengthened and reinforced how important family is!

In Mexico With Family

Carlos' family travels often and we see them at least 2-3 times a year. Carlos' family is currently living in Mexico. Carlos' entire family is all fluent in English, and communication is not an issue. We have been extremely lucky that our families have become friends despite geography. Our extended families have spent time all together and greatly enjoy the opportunities when we have all our family in one place.

Ali's family has a family cabin that serves as a gathering place full of laughs, card games, hikes, swimming, and wintertime fun. We try to go for every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Carlos has a family beach home in Mexico where we often meet with his family and spend time relaxing, visiting, swimming, and eating the most delicious foods.

We both come from very loving backgrounds and our families are absolutely thrilled to welcome a baby into our family!

From Us to You

Thank you for your time, your consideration, your endurance and your strength. You are so selfless and such an advocate for this child. You are loved. Just the fact that you are taking strides to look for a potential family for your child, is amazing, and we love you for that. This journey is undoubtedly difficult, but we want you to know that we are here for you, however you want us to be. We may not have a way with words, but we hope this letter shows your what is in our hearts.

We have been married for three years, and have known we wanted children since we started dating in college. We both have been drawn to adoption, and knew that we would love the opportunity to adopt in our future, no matter what our family looked like at the time. We both were fortunate to have wonderful childhoods, and have families that are incredibly supportive and bursting with love. We have so much love to share and want to provide the best life possible for our child.

We want you to know that we will love this child with all that we are. Jumping in front of buses, lifting cars, superhuman kind of love. We will protect them, love them, and support them no matter what life throws our way. People make mistakes, it's what makes us human. We will stand by this child's side always. We are here to support, guide, and love, but we want them to have their own experiences, and we will be here throughout. This child will also be surrounded by love and support from all our family and friends, whom are beyond excited to welcome a child into our lives. Our dog, Bjorn, will be there to play, cuddle, and eat all the food scraps our child throws under the dinner table for as long as he is able.

We want to teach a life of adventure and creativity, while establishing a comfortable, loving and secure home base. We will explore the world with them, speak Spanish, English, and any other language they are interested in. We want them to explore their interests, try things out, find what makes them unique. Education both in experiences and in schools. We want to teach kindness, and being good to others. Volunteering, community, and interacting with a diverse group of people. We want to teach that your neighbor not only lives next to you, but also can live 200,000 miles away all the same. Teach and encourage to be a global citizen. Our child will know their background, and their culture whatever it may be. We will teach to respect others, the outdoors, and all things-- including themselves.

We want them to know where they came from. Their adoption will not be secret, they will know that they are ours because the most amazing human chose us to love them to pieces. They will always know how brave, strong, and selfless you are, and we are happy to answer any questions our child may have as they grow up. We would like an open adoption, keeping in touch via phone calls, texts, email, photos, occasional visits, or whatever you may be comfortable with. As we continue this adoption process, our hearts have continued to grow and we have no doubts that this is exactly what we are meant to do right now. We hope that you find peace in your journey wherever that may lead you.

With all our love,

Carlos & Ali
