How We Met

Together in Mallorca Spain

We met at the university of Puerto Rico while studying our Master's degree in Food Science. The story begins from different angles. For Carlos, it began when Maria gave him a tour of the facilities where they were going to receive classes. For Carlos it was love at first sight, but Maria still didn't know that Carlos was going to be her future love.

Visiting Philadelphia

Weeks later, we met again in the Food Chemistry class where Maria was the Teacher’s Assistant and was in charge of the laboratory that Carlos was going to take. The laboratory’s experiments took hours to complete, but this gave the opportunity for Maria to know more about Carlos and she began to like him. We talked about the music we liked, hobbies and found that we had a lot in common. When the semester was over, Carlos invited Maria to a Halloween party and that was where it all began. We have been together for 9 years and 7 years of being happily married, learning a lot from each other and supporting each other to fulfill our dreams.

Our Leisure Time

We Love NYC!

We love traveling to new places in and out of the U.S., and exploring their food and traditions. For us, each city brings something new to discover. Our favorite city is New York City, and we try to go twice a year and always look for new activities to do and restaurants to visit. We love to dance salsa and we gather with our friends to go dancing.

We really like hosting get-togethers in our house where we do activities with our friends, such as game nights, roasting pigs, and celebrating birthdays and holidays. The house is full of all our friends and their kids and we enjoy spending time with family. We like to do seasonal activities such as planting flowers in spring, picking cherries and strawberries in summer, making S’mores and visiting corn mazes in fall, and attending Christmas fairs in winter. When we have free time at home we sometimes like to sit and watch TV, enjoy a good movie or TV series and share a good time together.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

What a Wonderful View!

Carlos about Maria:

When I met Maria, I fell in love with a lot of things that I still do today. Maria is a person that is very kind with everyone and shows compassion and love to others. She has all her goals well established and works every day to achieve them. She is full of life and her presence is noticeable wherever she goes, filling the place with joy and peace. She always looks for what is best for the family and is always looking that everyone is okay. She loves doing art, exploring new places and cultures and enjoying time with family. Maria is a person of good principles and always remembers the importance of them. She is my soulmate and my best friend.

Maria about Carlos:

Carlos is a gentleman, a kind man and a very compassionate person. He enjoys learning new things, especially if they have to do with food science or cooking. Carlos enjoys the little pleasures of life, like tasting a new flavor of ice cream or trying a new recipe. This will bring him true joy! He loves to create new desserts, this is his passion, and our house always smells like baked cookies. I love how Carlos puts a high level of care into making things with love to please the people he cares about. He is a compassionate animal lover and protector; he cares for all forms of life and always tries to protect them and take care of them.

Our Extended Families

Making Candy with Our Niece

Family is very important to us! Carlos's family lives in Puerto Rico and Maria’s family lives in Guatemala. We visit our families every year and spend the major holidays with them. Carlos's family is very big and always gets together to celebrate all major holidays. These celebrations are full of delicious food, music, laughter and our nephews playing around. We love to spend Thanksgiving with them in Puerto Rico!

Dinner with Family

Holy Week and Christmas are the most important holidays for Maria’s family. Our favorite holiday in Guatemala is Holy Week because the cities dress themselves in wonderful hand-made carpets. Even if our parents and families live far away from home, we always talk to them every week. We also are very lucky that they have the flexibility to visit us at any time. Since most of our family lives outside US, we have created a strong support system with our friends. We are the godparents of Mateo, son of our dear friends who live in Buffalo and of Leo who lives near us. We consider many of our friends as family, they have opened their hearts and confidence to us as we have babysit their kids. We love them as if they were our nieces and nephews. We host a big Christmas celebration every year at the beginning of December and is such a joy to see our group growing more every year. These friends are our first resource for help during good and difficult times.

Our House and Neighborhood

We live in a quiet and safe neighborhood in Pennsylvania where there are a lot of parks, playgrounds and farms around. We live minutes away of an amusement park and a zoo that is open from summer to winter. Close to our neighborhood there are farms that have cherries and strawberry picking during spring, a corn maize during fall and a ski resort during winter. There are fairs and shows that bring farm animals to show and allow the kids to pet and feed them.

We live in a single home with 3 bedrooms. We have a spacious backyard where there is a lot of room to play with a child. In here we celebrate our summer activities, we make S’mores in our fire pit and we dedicate time to take care of our fruit trees and pine trees that surround our home. We have many bunnies that live around the house and we always see them hopping around. Our school district has a very good rating and is located within five minutes from our house. Every Sunday we attend a Latino Catholic church, where we receive the mass in Spanish. The church recognizes the Latino community and has activities for the benefit of the parish and the community, like fundraisers, spiritual retreats and get together. They promote diversity by making festivals where there is music and food from many Latino countries.

From Us to You

Thank you for considering us and for taking the time to read our profile. We know that this is a difficult decision and we cannot imagine how overwhelming this process can be. We hope that our profile can give you a better idea of who we are and the desire we have to give your child a home full of kindness, respect and love.

We met at the University of Puerto Rico while studying for our Master’s in Food Science. Carlos says that when he saw Maria it was love at first sight, but Maria was his laboratory instructor and he couldn’t ask her out. The long laboratory hours gave us the opportunity to get to know each other better and by the end of the semester, we were both in love. We clicked right away because of our same taste in music, love for science and because we had the same values, such as respect and admiration for our families. We dated for a year and shortly after, we got married in 2012. We have been married for 7 years now! Our life together began with a new job and a relocation to Pennsylvania with high hopes of achieving our goals and starting a family.

We grew up in very close families and our families are the most important thing for us. We have always wanted to be parents, and we had discussed it since we got married. Once we were established in Pennsylvania, we tried to have biological children, but we encountered infertility problems. Several options and treatments were presented to us, but for us adoption was the process we felt most called to do and which we felt was the right one for us. Our desire to be parents and complete our family has always been in our hearts and we wish to welcome this child to our home and give him all of our love. Our families and friends support us in our decision and they are excited to receive a child in our home.

We come from different Latin-American countries and we hope to raise a child with the awareness of culture diversity. We will speak Spanish at home as we hope to raise a child bilingual. We want to create new traditions and continue the ones we already have, such as traveling to other countries and exploring different cultures. We will teach the love for family, the importance of friendship and helping others as well as to have a life with good values and manners. We firmly believe that God takes care of us and guides us in every step we take, and we want the child to find that same comfort in the faith and love for God.

We promise to love your child unconditionally. We will provide a safe and stable home, full of love and understanding. Education is very important to us, so we will teach the importance of this throughout the child’s life. We will be there to support every dream and will provide the means to accomplish them. We will always be honest with the child about their adoption and will talk about you in a respectful and positive way. We will tell the child that the decision you made was full of love and we will share your child's growth through letters and emails, with photos and stories if you wish.

We thank you again for consider our family for your child. We hope this profile has given you an idea of our life and who we are. May God give you the strength and wisdom to face the situation you are going through and we want you to know that you will be in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Carlos & Maria
