Dave & Nicki
We are honored you are taking the time to read our profile. We are so excited about the opportunity to be parents through adoption. We feel we have so much love to share with a child and are so looking forward to the gift a child will offer to our family. We hope our profile allows you to learn more about us as parents and as a potential family for your child.
Why We Chose Adoption
Early on in our marriage, we discussed adoption being a way we would love to explore to expand our family. The decision to finally pursue our adoption dreams came after a very difficult year in 2018. A stillbirth at 35 weeks, in addition to the difficult pregnancy experienced with our first child, prompted a lot of introspection and deep conversation regarding the family-planning process.
After taking just over a year to focus on the healing process, we decided that the time was right to pursue adoption as the best way to expand our family. Once the decision was officially made to adopt, we became very excited about this new journey and confident that it was the right path for our family.
Our son, Hayden, is extremely excited to become a big brother and welcome a new child into our little family. He is a wonderful little boy full of energy, empathy, and curiosity about the world. He will make the best big brother and is so excited to share all his toys and his knowledge of how everything works with a sibling. We all look forward to meeting the precious new addition to our family and already have so much love to share with this child.
Our Leisure Time
Although we enjoy many activities, at the top of the list is traveling for us. We love short weekend getaways (such as Gatlinburg where we hope to purchase a cabin one day soon) where we can enjoy nature and see different attractions than what our city offers. We also plan a couple longer vacations each year as we feel it's important to unplug and get away together as often as possible. We love the beach, the mountains, and seeing new cities.
In addition to traveling, regular weekends including swimming in our backyard pool, playing basketball, watching movies, and going to the zoo and the park. Some of our favorite times in the summer include playing games in the pool and having friends over to hang with us. We have enjoyed teaching our son how to ride a bike, dribble a basketball, and swim over the last few years.
We also love to try new foods and restaurants. While it's nice to relax at home by the pool, or watching sports together, we also like to get out of the house and try different things like bowling, traveling to friends' houses to hang out and let the kids play, and going to sports games.
What It Means to Be Parents
We love being parents and embrace our individual roles as a father and mother to our child. We feel that our job is to raise our children up to be competent, compassionate and caring human beings with the prayer that they will find happiness and success wherever life takes them. Just having the opportunity to watch a child learn, grow and experience new things every day is an amazing benefit of parenthood and something that we will never take for granted. That look on your child's face when they experience something new – whether it's dolphins at the aquarium, seeing an airplane up close for the first time, or feeling the sand touch their feet is so priceless. Children have such big imaginations and are constant reminders of how important it is to appreciate the simple things in life such as love, laughter, and snuggles. We love all of these opportunities with our son, and want to share in these feelings and unconditional love with another child. We feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to grow our family through adoption and very much look forward to the continued journey of parenthood. Love for our child and future child will always come first.
Our House and Neighborhood
We have lived in our house for almost five years and consider it our forever home. We have plenty of space and love hosting family and friends. Our favorite room is the upstairs bonus room where we have a large sectional with a play room attached that we spend many of our evening hours in. We love to watch movies as a family and play games together.
We live in a subdivision on a cul-de-sac. Many neighborhood kids play in the cul-de-sac and ride their bikes around the subdivision. In the nice weather we are almost always outside chatting with neighbors or swimming in the pool. We also have a large paved area in our backyard where Dave and our son Hayden love to play basketball on the hoop we have installed.
We have a salt water in ground pool and love entertaining with pool parties throughout the summer including a large 4th of July bash each year. Our subdivision collects donations and we have food trucks, inflatables, and a very large fireworks celebration all in our subdivision for the 4th of July. We get along very well with our neighbors and are all similar in age with kids in similar stages of life. We have a paved walking trail to the elementary, middle and high school connected to our neighborhood as many families in our subdivision have children. We specifically moved to this area for the school districts and we couldn't be happier with the education in our county.
Our Extended Families
The majority of our extended family lives in Michigan which is where we both grew up. We visit family several times a year and enjoy doing outdoor activities with them including visiting during the winter to enjoy the snow. We travel back to Michigan every year for Christmas time and enjoy visiting parents, grandparents, and our siblings while we are there. As a family, we all enjoy outdoor activities and exploring new places. We love getting the cousins together to play as well.
We have a very close-knit friends group here that we consider our family as well. We all have children and are in the same walk of life. We are able to lean into each other for support and love which is important to us with family being out of state. We enjoy doing activities in our small group including pool parties, bowling fun, and even weekend trips together.
We are so excited and blessed to be able to consider adoption to grow our family. We are so looking forward to extending our love to this child and our current son is very excited to be a big brother as well. Our parents and siblings are all also excited for us to welcome a new baby into our home. All are supportive of our adoption.
From Us to You
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about our family through our profile. We cannot fathom the strength and love it takes to make this difficult choice for your child and we are honored you are considering our family. Please know we are so excited for the opportunity to grow our family and are committed to providing a loving, stable, and fun-filled home for this child. We have so much love in our hearts to share and promise to love this child unconditionally and will always put our children's needs as our number one priority.
We've been happily married for 11.5 years and are childhood sweethearts who have been best friends since we were 12 years old. Early on in our engagement and marriage, we always knew adoption would be a wonderful way to expand our family and hoped for the opportunity of this gift later in our marriage. We currently have one son, Hayden, who is seven years old. Hayden is a very fun loving and adventurous kid with a huge heart for others. He's been asking for a while now to be a big brother and is very excited for the opportunity of a sibling. We know he will be the best big brother out there.
As a family, we value cultural diversity and will teach our future child about their own heritage and ethnic culture. Nicki grew up in a bi-racial family (African American, Native American, Caucasian) and her ethnicity and family background has allowed her to face many questions and issues that still occur in today's world. Being married for several years, we are both very comfortable with cultural differences and questions and will raise our children to understand them as well.
Dave works as a Nurse Manager for a family physician practice. He spent several years in a hospital setting and is selfless and patient with others. He is such a great and fun Dad to Hayden and looks forward to adding a new child to the fold. Nicki works in healthcare supply chain services with a background in accounting and audit. Nicki grew up in a single mom household and was taught by her mom how important relationships with your child are – even with the time spent working. We both enjoy job flexibility to be at home when needed.
We have a very supportive family and friend's base that we love to spend time with and watch all our children build lasting bonds together. As a family, we love traveling and exploring new places and can't wait to share these adventures with this child. We strongly value education, encouraging our child to explore and ask questions, and most importantly making sure they feel loved and connected. Today's world is full of so much technology and social media, and we work hard as a couple to make sure we spend quality time as a family and put family first.
It would be our pleasure to share photos, letters, emails, etc. with you to keep you updated on growth and milestones. We value honesty, and will share with this child their adoption placement and your strength and love for them. We hope to be able to build and maintain a healthy relationship with you as we travel on this journey together.
We hope our profile has provided you with a good snapshot into our lives as parents and as a family. We will be praying for you throughout this difficult decision and know that we admire your strength and courage. We would be so honored and our lives forever changed should you decide to place your child with us.
With Love and Hope,
Dave & Nicki
