We are so excited for the opportunity to expand our family through adoption! Our family is filled with love and laughter and we are extraordinarily appreciative that you are considering us. We were blessed with our first adoption two years ago and it is our dream come true to be considered again to continue to grow our family.
Our Hopes for an Open Adoption
When we adopted our first child Zoe, we didn't know what to expect regarding open adoption. We were nervous, scared, excited, happy and felt all kinds of different emotions. We sat down as adoptive parents and realized that an open adoption is and will be the best for our family because we understand how important it will be for the children and birth parents throughout their lives.
We flew out to Iowa to meet Zoe when she was born and we were able to meet her birth mother and father. It was a very nervous feeling at first but we got along great and met a few more times during our stay over the next few weeks. It was an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and for her birth parents to spend more time with Zoe so that we could one day tell Zoe how amazing her "belly mommy and daddy" were and how much they love her.
That experience was two years ago and we continue to maintain a texting relationship with her birth parents. We follow each other on social media, send letters, share pictures and give updates as much as we all feel comfortable. Our relationship has truly blossomed. We show pictures of Zoe's birth parents to Zoe and tell stories about them. Our hopes are to have a similar relationship with you but understand that every relationship is unique and will take on a life of its own.
We live a very active lifestyle. Running is our favorite hobby and has become a passion for us over the years. We have participated in over a dozen half-marathons and completed one full marathon. When we're not out on the road running, you can find us hiking and exploring together as a family on the local trails, and taking our chocolate lab to the park while Zoe runs around and plays at the playground.
Another one of our passions is traveling. We've been fortunate enough to visit Italy, Spain, France, England, the Caribbean, some Nordic countries and most of the United States. We've also spent time volunteering for children who have lost loved ones which has been an incredible experience. When we're not on the go, we spend as much time as we can with friends and family. We visit Kate's family at the beach and visit John's family while spending a lot of time at the pool with relatives. As much as we love being active, we look forward to unwinding in the evening as a family watching a movie before our nightly routine of bath time and reading stories with Zoe.
Our Daughter, Zoe
Zoe is the love of our life and the most amazing child. We adopted Zoe in 2018 and we were lucky enough to be there for her birth in Iowa. She is full of life and keeps us on our feet non-stop! She has beautiful blonde hair, bright blue eyes and loves to smile. She dances to music, plays with our dog Oliver and absolutely adores Minnie Mouse. Zoe loves when we read her books and go for walks, but she really enjoys playing with other kids at the park and daycare. She is very affectionate and loves to "cuddle" with blankets and pillows. Zoe will make an amazing sister to our next child. She loves to share her toys and give hugs to her friends. Zoe's loving nature will create a very special bond between her and her sibling that we can’t wait to watch develop.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a suburban neighborhood just fifteen minutes north of a major metro area. We've lived in our home for almost five years, but we've lived in the neighborhood for seven years. After moving away for graduate school, we immediately knew we wanted to buy our first home in our original neighborhood we loved.
Our neighborhood offers everything for families. It's a historic townhouse community with three parks, an elementary school, a middle school and a high school all within walking distance! It's absolutely heartwarming to see parents walk their children to and from school every day. Weekends are filled with kids playing soccer and baseball at the local parks or young children playing on the jungle gyms at the "tot lot." Our neighborhood hosts block parties, movie nights, Easter egg hunts, Santa Claus visits and summer picnics for families to have fun and create endless memories.
Our home is perfect for raising a family with our finished basement and finished attic for play areas, or our three bedrooms on the same floor for family coziness. We have a great backyard for entertaining or hanging out with the family roasting s'mores over the fire pit. There's no question that we have one of the best environments for any family to create lasting memories.
Our Extended Families
We live within driving distance of our families and spend extensive time with them at least once per month. John's family includes his mother, sister and four aunts and uncles with eleven cousins. Kate's family includes her mother and father, sister, two nephews.
It's common for our family to spend long weekends at our home or vice versa. Kate's family lives in a beach town where we get to spend time with her family and enjoy long summer days on the beach, grilling outside, playing with our nephews, going to the pool, watching movies, playing with the dogs and trying new restaurants.
Some of our fondest memories come from our annual 4th of July pool party with John's family while playing baseball and football with all of our cousins in the yard or swimming in the pool; as well as our Christmas Eve party when we have our special guest, Santa Claus, come visit every year for the children. Our family is incredibly excited and supportive of our second adoption, and to have the opportunity to become grandparents all over again with this child. The entire family can't wait to include your child in our traditions and create new memories that will be more meaningful than ever.
From Us to You
When we first started dating thirteen years ago, we had no idea what our lives would become but we knew we had something special. There has never been a day that we could imagine life without one another. We knew that whatever challenge or struggle we faced that we wanted to face it together.
We were married for four years with four unsuccessful attempts of IVF treatments when trying to start a family on our own. We ultimately realized that we couldn't do it on our own. We needed a birth mother like you to help our dreams of starting a family come true. That dream came true and we were blessed with our daughter Zoe in 2018.
Our promise to you is the same promise we made Zoe's birth mother - that we will give this child the best life possible filled with endless love and laughter. We will surround this child with family and friends and create opportunities for them to reach their full potential and become the best versions of themselves.
If you choose to move forward with the adoption and choose us as parents, we have every intention of having an open adoption if that's something you are interested in, too. We can give you and the child all the engagement you would like, by e-mail, phone, text, video or even in-person visits. We want this child to understand early and often how adoption is a blessing and that they are a blessing to everyone they come in contact with. We want them to know that you are an amazing person for giving our family and the world the opportunity to share life with them. We want this child to understand that they are so lucky to have two mommies and daddies that love them so much and will always want the best for them. This adoption will allow this child to grow up with a sibling so that we can fill our family with even more love and laughter.
This child will get the opportunity to participate in any activity that interests them, go on family hikes and vacations around the world and make the best friends any child could ask for with growing up in our neighborhood. As parents, we will spend time helping with homework, reading bedtime stories, wearing family Halloween costumes, spoiling the kids with Christmas gifts from Santa and giving them endless hugs and kisses. We have a loving chocolate lab dog named Oliver who can't wait to lick and cuddle and have his ears pulled by this child. In every way, shape and form, this child will experience things in life that most kids won't by exploring new cultures with us, attending renowned schools within walking distance of our home and by having parents who have a loving marriage and are especially supportive of each other.
In some ways, we believe that this path has always led us to this point of adoption. That in some ways, it was inevitable and it's why we found each other, fell in love, got married, went through the struggles of IVF while realizing that adoption would be part of our story, and ultimately were blessed with our first child, Zoe. And for that reason that's why we think we are blessed - blessed to have you consider us as parents for your child, blessed to have a supportive network of family and friends, blessed to live in an amazing community, and blessed to have the opportunity to create an amazing life for this child.
Thank you for considering us.
