Kevin & Jenna
Laughter, family time, faith, friendship... these are the words that describe our family! We are so grateful for the chance to share how excited we are to welcome a new little one into our family. Thank you for taking time to read our profile and we hope that you don't just see another couple, but a future home where family is forever.
Cultural Diversity is celebrated as a blessing in our family. Kevin was born in Mexico and moved to the United States in fifth grade, while Jenna grew up in a Southern household. We both love traveling and widened our view of the world through the eyes of the people we’ve met. Together, we have led mission trips to Honduras, Jamaica, and Ireland where we made friends with people from all walks of life. Kevin lived in Jamaica for two years, creating music ministries in rural areas and teaching children to play musical instruments.
Jenna is careful to always include reading material on different cultures and offer experiences pertaining to specific times of the year to our children. We also have friends from Ethiopia, Spain, India, and all over the United States who we see regularly, giving our children a sense of how the wider world speaks, thinks, and acts. We enjoy introducing our children to different cultural foods and experiences. We love to travel and not just see places, but visit with the people who call that place home. We are currently saving for a trip to Spain.
We are excited to incorporate our newest little one’s cultural background as well! Who we are and where we come from is such an important part of shaping us into the person we become. We can’t wait to learn new things and to share these as a family.
We have three children this side of heaven who can’t wait to add another member to our family through adoption! Caeli is eight years old. She is intelligent like her Daddy, extroverted like her Mommy, and loves to dance even when no one is watching. She often remarks, “THIS, was the best day ever!” She is the best big sister and loves starting spontaneous family dance parties.
Cecilia is six and also incredibly musical. She has a sensitive heart and always gravitates towards the child in the room that is having a bad day. Her silly jokes and warm smile brighten even our darkest moments. She loves being outside and shepherding our chickens. She can’t wait to help take care of a new baby.
William is almost four years old and wants to be a giant kangaroo when he grows up! He loves alligators and bike riding, wrestling, and swinging. He can’t wait to be a big brother!
How We Met
We met on a mission trip to Honduras. While Jenna doesn’t remember our first encounter, Kevin does… in detail. Kevin is incredibly gifted in leading music and Jenna can sing. He asked her to sing with him throughout the week, and while she was terrified of singing in front of people, she didn’t mind the extra time spent with him! Jenna got really sick following the trip and Kevin nursed her back to health with homemade concoctions involving aloe plants and Gatorade.
Following the trip, Jenna graduated and found a job close to where Kevin was living. Moving from the Midwest to New England was quite an adjustment for Jenna, but Kevin was worth it! He helped Jenna navigate everything from the traffic to finding a place to live. We dated for two years and then tied the knot back in Indiana, surrounded by our family and friends. Little did we know those same friends who celebrated us then, are still celebrating us 10 years later as we begin this new chapter of our lives through adoption.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in our dream home on three acres in the center of town, with some of our closest neighbors being the Public Library, playground, hometown movie theatre and an old-time general store all within walking distance! Our home is two stories with four bedrooms upstairs and a playroom, living room, and spacious kitchen downstairs. Set back from the street, we also have a little stream running through our property that provides endless opportunities for all the children in the neighborhood to go hunting for crayfish, wading into the cool water, and making little boats to float down the current. We also have 10 chickens that our children and the neighbor kids love to shepherd and collect eggs from. We have a large grassy space for lawn games and soccer, as well as a large fenced in garden adjacent to the house. The children love hunting for strawberries and snow peas after chasing chicken and riding bikes on our long, flat driveway. During the winter, we all like to curl up with a good book or have a dance party in our living room next to the wood-burning stove whose dancing firelight invites every visitor to join in our fun.
Our community is very family-centered. We have an annual Labor Day parade the entire town is either in or lined up along the road to celebrate. We have an outdoor community pool, two additional playgrounds, hiking trails, a lakeside beach, and a brand-new community center complete with indoor pool! It’s a wonderful place for our children to grow up.
Our Extended Families
Our family is very important to us and is made up of two rich cultures, American and Mexican. Along with the traditional American holidays, we celebrate many Mexican traditions such as Las Posadas and Los Reyes Magos. Kevin's parents live a mile away, which allows us to see them many times throughout the week. Kevin's mom is from Mexico and has already begun teaching Spanish to our children.
Jenna's family is from Southwestern Indiana and Kentucky with strong roots made of sweet tea and long porch conversations. Jenna has an older brother who is married with two girls. Jenna's younger sister lives in Spain and her other sister is married with a new little one. Twice a year our family piles in the car for an adventurous road trip "back home" to Indiana. There, our children enjoy cousin time and many meals shared over very large dinner tables. Jenna's family enjoys games of all kinds from corn hole to International Rummy. Jenna's parents also come East twice a year.
Our extended family can't wait to celebrate the arrival of a new little one through adoption. Both sides are ready to drop everything to help us and to be ready at a moment's notice! We are so grateful for such a loving and close-knit family.
From Us to You
Life comes when we least expect it! We have now been praying for you specifically for several months. We know that your life has most likely taken a turn you least expected and we believe you are most courageous and strong for choosing what’s best for your precious little one. We hope to share in your hardships and joys. We want what’s best for the beautiful child growing within you, whether you seek out us or another person to become your child’s forever family.
We know what it means to watch life grow inside you. We have been married for 10 years. We have been blessed to welcome four beautiful children into this world. Each of their birth dates left a lasting imprint on our hearts. Our last baby, Charlotte Rose was a miscarriage at 11 weeks. Each of our children has shaped us into who we are today, but in particular, her short life taught us many things. She helped us understand what it means to give up a child and she helped our other children understand what Heaven is. Lastly, she threw open the doors of our hearts to adoption. We now realize that God’s plan doesn’t always look like ours and the unexpected loss of our fourth baby was the unexpected and very deep desire to welcome our next precious baby through adoption.
Kevin is the very best of fathers. He takes time to truly listen to our children and never complains about helping with all aspects of parenting from diapers, to midnight snack runs for our children. He loves sharing our daily tasks with the kids, including building something around the house, taking them with him to the store or even to one of his real estate houses, sharing with them one of his many hobbies such as how to play the djembe or ukulele, or making sap runs where they harvest the maple sap to make maple syrup. He is a confident and gentle dad who loves to have dance parties and wrestle matches with all of the kids. He puts us first in all things.
Jenna’s heart and dedication are unparalleled. The way she patiently focuses on each child to make them feel loved and important means none of our children gets lost in the crowd. She’s quick to serve at all hours and is always coming up with fun and nutritious dinners and snacks. She loves teaching our children about the world around us. She makes a trip to the zoo an African safari, and a fort in the living the room, a make-believe fortress in a fairy tale. She is generous in sharing what we have with others, especially when someone we know is in need of an extra meal or just a visit to know that they are not alone in what they are experiencing.
We want you to know that this isn’t just about having a baby, but also supporting you. Sometimes, we just need someone to listen to us and to be with us through the rough road we are on. We want the best for you and we want to walk with you through this unexpected and incredible journey. We are open to emails, phone calls, and even a visit. We are with you for better or worse. Thank you for the love you have already shown this child and for your courage to walk the road of adoption.
